Feeling so guilty about being off work

I’ve worked in my job for six months and just passed my probation and ten days agi I broke my arm. I’ve been to the hospital twice since then - initial A&E and follow up cray and consultant and the fracture has moved slightly (it’s in the humerus) so they’ve told me to rest and they’re going to x-ray again next week and the consultant signed me off for five weeks. It’s a fully in person role and I can’t drive to get to work either as in a full arm cast but I could potentially get the bus, but I also am a carer for my adult autistic son that means I wouldn’t be back in time for him to get home to.

I am in quite a lot of pain and discomfort with it, but I just get the feeling that it’s really bad to just not even go to work at all for five weeks. I’m a PA/ admin person.

AIBU to accept the five weeks off?

They’re not insured to have you in the office if you’re signed off so just try to enjoy it

Yes, I do have a full cast on from the armpit to the knuckle of my hand. I think I’ve had some really good advice on here obviously it ranges but the middle ground feels like seeing how I am after the x-ray next week and then if it’s going alright I’ll offer to work from home for awhile. I only work 0.5 FTE there anyway And they may will let me just go and get a laptop and come back and work from home If it’s healing okay and I’m not in a lot of pain anymore. At the moment, even sitting up right at the table at home is really inconvenient because I have to either rest the big cast in front of me or keep it down by my side in the sling which is really annoying if I’m trying to sit close to the table, it also really aches and yes every day things are really difficult. I also don’t have clothes with big enough sleeves!!!

I wouldn't look that far ahead. Just wait until your next appointment and see exactly what you're dealing with. Just take it step by step.

Thank you. I should’ve also said that I got diagnosed with severe osteoporosis last year completely out of the blue - I had no idea. And this a shocker because I’ve fallen over running loads of times over the years and never broken anything and I’m now wondering whether or not this is related.
