Passive aggressive neighbour?

beanbeery · 20/09/2026 11:31

Basically most Saturdays nights when the kids are with their nan I like to put music on etc.

Lasr night one of my NDN was blasting music on my bedroom wall side as well as playing playing some kind of bagpipe.

She also moved manure on the side of her driveway where I walk past with my DC.

We used to get on have a chat about out DC etc but over time she just blanks me.

If the music was bothering her surely she could have just approached me?

Of course I will be more considerate moving forward but is their behaviour passive aggressive?
They have never played music loud enough for me to hear and when I heard it I turned mine off.

You should be more considerate. You must know they could hear your music. She shouldn’t be put in the position of having to ask you to turn it down. You are being unreasonable

Thrownunderthebuz · 20/09/2026 12:02

I. Lived in a Terrace like this at least you found out now that you can hear so clearly between you. I had to put up with about a year of ‘ Give it to me Garry” Friday nights were particularly bad think kid went to grandmas .The new neighbours next door phoned the police because they thought she was in distress. Needless to say noises stopped and they moved out

If it’s your own house it tonne it down a bit also look maybe to some sound proofing. B&Q sell some nice panels

MelissaLovedMantari · 20/09/2026 12:02

Five and a half hours of being subjected to someone else's music would drive me insane. Buy some headphones @beanbeery

There is also horse manure by her side of the drive where I walk with my DC.
Not very nice.

Surely if you don’t like the horse manure, you should approach her?

Why is the onus on her to be thoughtful about the manure but you think she should have told you she’s doesn’t like loud music played at night?

It’s her drive. She’ll can put it where she likes. Serves you right for being a noisy neighbour.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 20/09/2026 11:58

What does your music need to be so loud? No one needs to play music so loud that the neighbours can hear it unless it's just a one off for a party.

Hellohelga · 20/09/2026 11:58

The bagpipes are a massive clue to what the problem is with DN. Music for 5 solid hours, twice a week is not on. No wonder she doesn’t like you. Pack it in and maybe over time relations will improve.

whippersnapper55 · 20/09/2026 11:56

Maybe stop playing loud music later at night and walking on her driveway? You sound like an annoying neighbour.

PineConesAndBerries · 20/09/2026 11:56

At least you now know your music annoyed her enough for her to want to give you a taste of your own medicine

lololove · 20/09/2026 11:55

I've lived in the same house for over 30 years. For most of it we have had the same neighbours one side until 4 years ago.

For the last 5 years they lived there, she moved a new abusive boyfriend in and blasted music into the early hours most nights, hammered on the walls and screamed insults through. When we tried to speak to the neighbour we had known and gotten on with for 20 years she "knew nothing" of it, despite taking part in some of it, some of it during the pandemic. It ruined our relationship and caused genuine upset of being at home and braced for the next onset.

They haven't lived there for four years and now a young family do with teenagers who also play music into the night which produces some of the same reactions. Thankfully it's not as often as it was abs she does, when you actually get her to answer the door, make an effort to reign the kids in volume wise.

Please don't under estimate how loud music affects people

QuirkyHorse · 20/09/2026 11:53

You are the nightmare neighbour here, not her.

Be more considerate!

NoisyHiker · 20/09/2026 11:52

Oh, one of 'those' neighbours.

Happily blasting music out whenever they feel like it, not a thought to whether anyone else on the street wants to be forced to listen to their shite.

But immediately getting their backs up when it is done back to them... once.

Is it a lack of emotional intelligence?

IPM · 20/09/2026 11:50

And she clearly doesn't like you so why would you expect her to approach you?

You know your music is disturbing everyone except your own children.

Maybe she doesn’t find you very approachable. If someone is willing to be so inconsiderate knowing that the shared walls are thin, in your neighbour’s mind, that person might not take kindly to being called out on their inconsiderate behaviour, because generally those type of people don’t actually care about others.

I will be honest but sometimes it does go past 11pm and it must be loud if she can hear it.
The music is quite loud as if you were singing loudly.

Her music was loud and could here word by word.

Why are you being so antisocial? Sounds like you're the problem neighbour here.
I listen to music all the time, nothing wrong with that, just not loud enough for my neighbours to hear and certainly not late at night. Loud music after 11pm can get you an asbo because it is, well antisocial.
Honestly you're lucky she's passive aggressive rather than downright aggressive, I'd be telling you to STFU, loudly.
There are these amazing inventions called headphones if you like loud music.

IPM · 20/09/2026 11:48

Well this is nice isn't it?

You wait until your kids are somewhere they won't be disturbed, while you disturb others who you don't particularly care about.

And yes, of course they were being passive aggressive.

That would drive me crazy. Your poor neighbour.
Did you ever stop and think about how annoying/upsetting it must be for them? They must dread every Saturday.

I know, imagine working all week and looking forward to a nice relaxing Saturday evening at home and all you can hear is the tinny screeching music from next door?

I used to live above someone who would blast his shitty techno music and thought of himself as some kind of DJ. It honestly made me murderous.

bunnypenny · 20/09/2026 11:47

I actually love your neighbour. Well done her.

Last month I would say the music has been on about 7 times and last Saturday it was from 6pm - 11:30pm.

I have only been playing music since the summer.
The walls are very thin. Its a terraced house.

You are a PITA to your neighbour.

Yeah, you’re being unreasonable in this case. There’s nothing wrong with listening to music, but don’t subject others to your choice. Having the music at a reasonable volume doesn’t change the lyrics or the enjoyment of the song, so I never understand the need for people to blast their music so loud that others have to hear it as well - it’s arrogant and entitled.

Living in close proximity to others mean that there needs to be respect and consideration on both sides. Your neighbour has clearly reached her limit and is trying to make a point. Not the best way to go about it, but I can see why she did it.
