To ask if anyone actually sticks to 20mph speed limits?

I always do and it upsets me enormously when some arse hole, usually in an Audi or a BMW comes roaring up behind you. I honestly hate them.

Yep, I have adaptive cruise control and just set it to 20.

Around schools yes, everywhere else no. There’s no point in me lying but where I live (Wales) the default speed is 20mph and no one sticks to it unless they know there’s a speed camera. This doesn’t mean I think I’m Max Verstappen, I don’t hammer through built up areas at 60mph but 20 is ridiculous in some areas.

I live on a 20 MPH road, people often fly down to avoid some lights nearby. If you get caught behind me I’ll be driving 10 MPH. Twats.

I do or my car starts yapping. Lost count of the number of times boy racers and push bikes have overtaken me though.

I love cruise control / limiter. Stick it on, do the limit, dont worry about a speeding fine and fuck everyone else.

If I remember, I put my speed limiter on. DH thinks that's antisocial as 20 on my car is probably actually 18. But my arguments is that it probably shows 20 on the car behind me too.

I think the 20 zones have reduced speeds, but that's probably from 35 on average to maybe 25 on average.

Yes usually because quite often there is a very clear reason for it. The only place I don’t is if I’m in Wales and it’s a previous 30/40mph zone and absolutely ludicrously slow.

I follow the speedometer on my car, even though I know it's slightly high. So when I approach a 20mph limit, my limiter is set 20mph and I'm likely doing 18mph.

Stick to them! My DH got a ticket for going (23? Was some years ago now) in a 20. Road with all lampposts down the side so would be a 30mph anywhere but London and Wales now I guess, houses set far back from the road on one side and a park (all overgrown greenery and ditches, nothing like play equipment or anything) on the other. He now sets a speed limiter on the car when we go back to London so it can't creep up and risk a ticket.

Meanwhile now we've moved away from London you see all sorts of crazy nonsense because there are nowhere near the amount of cameras. People going the wrong way round mini roundabouts, doing what looks like 50mph in a 30.

I do because my car beeps so loudly if I don’t. But - the implication is that my journey time from school drop off to starting work has now almost doubled and it may no longer be feasible which is quite upsetting as I genuinely love my job.

A shocking amount of people don't.
Please don't rely on your sat nav it's not calibrated as a speed camera is
Your speedometer only has to be correct within a 10% margin which is why most forces give a tolerance.

We've newly got 20mph round here and I don't know anyone who sticks to it - certainly not the bus drivers

The Mumsnet perfection of "I always obey 20mph". Yeah, right. There are loads of pointless 20mph zones: it's a political box tick, I'm sure it was one of Boris's bright ideas when he was London Mayor.

On one occasion, I was driving in a bus lane (at a time when it was allowed), at exactly 20mph. I was overtaken by... a bus! These were the same roads on which I remember my driving instructor saying to me "you need to go faster: get that speed up to 30! Really get it up! Drive as if you are trying to get somewhere!" My instructor (who was also a fireman, so had seen plenty of car accidents) said rather ironically that driving too slowly causes more accidents, because people then overtake recklessly. And now we have these blanket 20mph limits imposed on us by some box-ticking Etonian who probably doesn't obey it himself, or is chauffeur-driven everywhere anyway.

There are often speed cameras in 20 zones so they will regret it.

Just ignore them.

I might hit 22-23mph occasionally (24/25 on Speedo) but generally I try to.

And if I have an arsehole on my tail hassling me, I turn my rear windscreen washer on, which will cover their windscreen in water spray

@gamerchick I did my first solo drive this morning after just passing my test - 20/30/60mph roads and I was overtaken on every single one of them 😅😅 The number of times I checked my speed was ridiculous because I was paranoid I was doing something wrong but I was doing the speed limit 🤣

What areas are you with them, and how many do you have? In Wirral, we have 20 mile roads all over the place when they really don't need to be there and it's very frustrating on empty quiet roads. It's not all previously 30 mph roads, but about half of them, which makes it very frustrating trying to figure them out. I have been caught speeding twice going 25mph, and now I spend more time looking at my speedo than on the road, as it's so hard to accidentally go over 20. I hate them.

I should say I fix the speedometer to 22 and it always flashes 22 on the flashy thing on the side of the road

I stick to it, because if I go too fast, the car dings at me until I return to/below the limit 😂

I stick to the speed limit religiously. Anyone who is annoyed at me for it is an arsehole.

Also, more often than not, the arsehole who overtook me because I was doing the speed limit is right ahead of me at the next red light, of which there are many (London). So what was the point? Chill out, arseholes. Speeding won't get you where you are going more than a few minutes quicker when there is a traffic light every five minutes and it might get you a ticket or points on your licence. What's the point?

If you stick to the speed limit, you'll get used to driving at that speed and won't have to look at your speedometer all the time.
