People keep running red lights

This us what AI should be getting used for, all bad driving, with fines to pay for it. Just Email the council, why they are passing up revenue by not having cameras, is anyone's guess.

We have a 50mph road near us with a pedestrian crossing in the middle and jumping the red lights is rife there. We’ve lived here 15 years and in that time there has been at least three fatalities at that crossing. Two of them being pedestrians trying to cross. But no-one is interested, jumping the lights and scrolling your phone whilst driving seems to be normalised now.

It’s not a council matter, it’s a police one.

You can submit dashcam footage to the police via operation snap. They then can and do prosecute drivers.

Presumably they would also accept doorbell footage if it met their requirements, and clearly showed the reg number.

It tells you a lot about drivers that the fear of getting caught breaking the law is the only real deterrent, not the fact they knowingly break the law.

Our school have managed to get the council to program the lights to delay the green man appearing for a few more seconds. This allows time for those (twats) who jump the red lights by a little bit to get through before the green man.

More car drivers than not do it in my experience

I can’t understand for the life of me why all crossings and junctions don’t have cameras.
I drive for precisely 10 minutes, 3x return journeys a week at 07.15 and 09.00 and every single time someone jumps the lights, either at the Morrisons crossroads / coming out onto the road or on the A34 main dual carriageway that I have to negotiate to get to DD’s.
If I leave any earlier than 07.15, you get the idiots ( Polish and Romanian mostly) from the local New look warehouse who finish at 07.00 treating the roads like their own personal race track doing 70mph in a 40 - I’ve reported it to my Council and MP but nothing gets done and the speed camera on the A34 where they come out from the industrial estate doesn’t work.
I HATE driving and I hate where I live, it wasn’t like this 5 years ago.

I think there should be cameras on all lights now. I've seen two people run a red light recently, absolutely blatant because the road was clear and they knew they could.

This might be me being a Grumpy Old Woman but I do think driving has got worse recently. I see so many people going through the lights well after they have turned red, sometimes causing other traffic or pedestrians to have to wait when they should be able to go. It's like people just can't bear to be held up at all.

I drive on the motorway a lot and driving has got noticeably worse there too. I'm not sure why.

We have a pedestrian crossing (with traffic lights) outside our house. This happens regularly here, there is another set of traffic lights very soon afterwards and I think drivers focus on those, and don't even notice the first set.
I inadvertently taught my tiny child a swear word when a motorbike nearly took him out on that crossing. The motorbike had decided to overtake a car that had stopped, without checking to see why it had stopped.

YANBU but until the police actually start policing again, things will only get worse. You could try complaining to your MP and local councillors in the hope of getting traffic light enforcement cameras, but that's highly unlikely until there are enough serious accidents. The absence of police on the roads (and those who are who just ignore blatant law breaking in front of them) is causing increasing lawlessness.

It's not just drivers, it's shop lifters, drug dealers, those dropping litter, burglars, money launderers, etc. There's been a clear increase in lawlessness everywhere due to lack of police enforcement, soft justice in courts, etc.

If you can get the car going through a red on camera, submit it to Operation Snap. Several police forces use this. Make a report and submit it with the footage and they will get either a driver awareness course or points and a fine (conditional offer). I've caught several near our local schools on my dashcam going through pelican and zebra crossings. I agree with pp that driving has worsened over the last few years.

Re councillors - share the footage as it will make your request stronger. There’s something really shocking about watching an incident on film rather than just hearing a description. It’s also worth speaking to them at local surgeries / ward meetings. Your MP can also write to them if you get nowhere, or if you have a strong opposition candidate in your ward they might take an interest.

It can be hard to get councils to act but it is possible.

Same here. I regularly get beeped or gestured at by the car behind me when I stop at red lights. Or if I observe a hatched area. I've concluded that the majority of drivers are selfish arseholes.

Not this specific thing but me and my young dd nearly got run over by an electric bike on the pavement (specifically a pedestrianised area near a shopping centre). I'm extra vigilant about vehicles, because I've known a couple killed when a car mounted a pavement, so luckily checked left when walking or dd would have been very likely killed and me badly injured.

So many reckless fucking idiots about in charge of killing machines. Was fuming afterwards and a bit shook up, he was inches away from us.

The standard of driving is appalling at the moment.

I've just been into Manchester and saw at least 30 incidents as well as being cut up 4 times. The worse was the hgv going through a red light, then u turns despite a no turn sign and there was no lanes at all joining the m66 there was a car facing sideways at one point.

Something needs doing about the appalling standards.

We have this problem outside our school. There's a prinary each side so its quite a well used crossing always get cars go through a red light. Which is hard as primary children learn green man =safe to cross. One tried to go through as we were crossing the other day and then started swearing at me out of the window when i pointed at the green man.

No idea why they do it. Wish there was a police officer there to witness it.

I've always taught my children to look both ways even when there's a green man. DS1s friend got hit my a car on a pedestrian crossing about a week after they started secondary school. Luckily he "only" broke his leg!

Several times this week I’ve waited at traffic lights and crossed on the green man (walking!) and three cars have ignored the one way system and nearly taken me out. I was thinking someone had taken insurance out on me when twice today, at the zebra crossing, 3 cars drove straight over without stopping.
all in 30 mile an hour zones. I was wearing hi viz running jacket and they either had passed two one way signs already or had plenty of time to stop.
