To ask what you would wear in Rome in November?

I’m travelling there for a week, one small hand luggage only bag!! I’m plus size, size 16-18 and looking at the average weather it seems to be about 16° or so in the day and cooler at night. I feel a little lost on what I need! It doesn’t seem like summer clothes would be suitable, but neither would winter by the looks of it!

I wouldn't go for a week with just a small hand bag and that's with me rewearing my clothes more than the average Mumsnetter. I'd just pay the extra £50 or whatever for a second bag and free myself from the hassle. If you're going with a partner/friend, the cheapest way will probably be to book one hold bag to share.

You need to check the weather forecast just before you go and plan accordingly but I'd expect that you'll need a variety of clothes due to temperature variation and also if it rains.

Been there in early Nov and it was getting chilly in the evenings, would need a light sweater and jacket. Nice during day, like a summer's day in Scotland, so not sleeveless tops & shorts, more light layers to add and subtract as necessary. Occasional heavy rain showers, check forecast in case you need a brolly.

Locals will be in their jeans and puffa jackets!

shower proof trench
x 2 jeans/trousers - one pair for sight seeing, one for evenings
x2 vest
x2 t-shirt
x2 shirt
cardigan
sweatshirt
(mix and match all the tops)
trainers/boots
red lipstick, massive hoop earrings and silk scarf to go from day to evening!
What ever you wear to travel in, wear both directions

Check the forecast before you go. It's still 30+ degrees this week. I don't think past averages count for much with the way European weather is these days.

I'm going for a week beginning of November and I'm hoping for a midweek beach day 😂😎.... and I'm serious. I swear I've been checking the weather there since I booked last year and it's been in the twenties all that time.

The most important thing is sturdy shoes, it’s not a place for heels or flimsy sandals.

Layers.
I went (many years ago) in November. Days were jeans and teeshirts. Nights required jumpers and coats.
It was a fabulous trip (chosen by "where can we go on £1 flights from our local airport")

It’s the small easyJet bag, so my 26l Osprey bag should cut it.

I’m there Monday to Friday, so I’m envisioning it being okay!

I’m hoping to take a gorgeous pair of ankle boots I’ve got, but they may be replaced by trainers as I have a walking tour booked!

I've been in Rome twice in the winter time. I wore warm clothes and my winter coat.

This. Totally unpredictable now based on how it was several years ago. I went to Rome end of August and September in the past and it was fine, sometimes hotter, sometimes cooler. This year… end of August… very difficult., 35-38 degrees. I suspect 22-25 in November?

I’ve only been there once in November, and wore a coat with jeans and a jumper type clothes - and sunglasses as it was bright! It’s literally my favourite weather - cold and bright.

On the plane wear jeans, your biggest shoes/boots, a t-shirt, jumper, scarf, and jacket - it you have a thin puffa or padded jacket that’s ideal. For packing I’d bring:

1pair wide leg trousers
3 tops/t-shirts
1 cardigan
1skirt
nightie
Another pair of shoes

If you have a well defined colour palette - e.g. Black, tan, and white, then everything will coordinate. Avoid the temptation to just try to bung in all your favourite stuff. It never works out well

If the walking tour is anything like the one we went on, I’d strongly advise trainers! It was a bit of a route march but it was very informative and well worth doing.

I went the last week of October a couple of years ago and it was 26 in Rome in the daytime. People did think it was warmer than usual, though.

Just be aware that you need comfortable shoes for the entire trip, not just the walking tour!

I’m going to be there in October. I’ve bought a super light showerproof jacket with a hood in Uniqlo which I hope will cover a lot of ground. I’m going to take a light cardigan layer too. Ive got a Go Outdoors kinda dress, some light/quick drying trousers, that sort of thing I’ve got a rucksack about the same size as yours, and am taking a Nanobag backpack as a day bag.

Naples in November was very wet.

More than 2 weeks out, the long range forecast is just the average temp for the same day in previous years. I'd really suggest waiting until you have a real forecast if you're planning to buy anything especially for the trip.

I say this because I'm currently in Italy and it's far hotter than I planned for. But it's an excuse to go shopping so I'm not complaining!
