AIBU to question the school banning prams from the buggy shed?

People can still walk, they just need to take buggy's/ scooters home again. The school don't need to reconcile anything. My kids always went to school on a scooter, I always brought it home, same with the buggy when they where in nursery. It's not hard.

But the bike shed is for those select users.

Move on. Build a bridge. Get over it.

And what if 150 other people need it.. and then opeak hasn't got anywhere to park her buggy? We should. She then complain to the school that the shed's not big enough?

I'm not entirely sure why her work pattern is the school's problem? She could ask her work to start 5 to 10 minutes later? But no, this is the school's problem to solve apparently...

I think that's ridiculous. Why would you make schools lives even harder, because you can't be bothered to leave 10 minutes earlier, or your work or your work patterns don't suit?

The op can solve this problem quite easily. People encouraging her to lobby the school and petition and go to the governors and head teachwr??? This all takes time away from the actual teaching of your children, and the safeguarding work they're doing for children...

The main issue actually seems your first work meeting starts at 9am. Can you not talk to work about starting at 9.10am instead and the meeting moving to then, and work an extra 10 mins at lunchtime? That would allow you to just walk back at normal speed, with pram

I disagree. This is a classic case of "them's the rules" rather than actually working with people to suit the needs to many. It's not just OP who's affected, it's every parent whose kid wants to take a scooter to school, too. What happens if you have to go straight to work from the school run? Or you have three kids on three scooters?

It doesn't have to be a change.org petition, just a "Hi, this arbitrary rule of you can't leave buggies and scooters in the buggy park every day doesn't work for lots of parents. We'd like you to consider allowing these items to be left (bar the stay and play days) at the owner's risk".

If parents keep ignoring the policy, the school will have to waste time and money on a lock and code system so the facility can be used for its intended purpose.

Just push the stroller back home. if you can’t run with it, get a jogging stroller.

It's just a mild inconvenience for OP.

The school doesn't owe anyone storage.

Maybe they've had some parent kick off when their property was damaged on school property, or someone left something there for months...so they said...no more.

It really doesn't matter. Their shed, their rules.

I think on wfh days, a stroller you can run with might be an option.

On office days...that's a pain. Is there anywhere at the station you can lock your buggy?

I presume they don't want anything left on their property and you can't leave it outside the shed?

I know it's not really the school's problem but it is a bit shit. We are supposed to be more active etc, great way for the children to get fresh air every day....but logistically in your situation, it's very awkward. Do any children go to the school unaccompanied or are they all too young? Our primary and post primary have bike sheds where scooters etc can be left. They encourage it.

If they have a committe around being more active or more green, that would be a place to raise it too

However, you haven't considered that whilst something being there for a couple of hours at most when people are only there at one time is relatively secure, once you add in random comings and goings and no idea where or who has left something, there's an increased chance of it going home with somebody else before you come back.

In any case, it's a mile - give it a few weeks and your child will have built up the strength to manage the walk easily. They're 3, not a new walker, after all. Maybe give breakfast 20 minutes earlier so that the rise in blood sugar/energy helps them along a bit as well and you won't need to rush as you know you've got plenty of time to get to school? Then you can trot back to your home, your meeting unencumbered and your property safely at home instead of available to any randoms who might take the opportunity presenting itself to them once they realise it doesn't belong to anybody who might notice it going home with them.

ds used a stroller for a hook until 4ish. maybe your school would have made an exception for us on medical grounds but even when I had 3 year old twins, we used the pushchair. twas faster to get to school, dump all the bags on it and no worries about crossing big roads etc.

and it's a buggy rack so banning it being used cos it's used for an hour a week by other people is ridiculous

I think you are getting some harsh responses here OP, however you were wrong to just ignore the emails. You should spoken to the school and explained your situation, they may have been able to offer a solution.

It's not a random decision, they've thought it through. OP just doesn't like it.

And parents should be compliant, save your energy for important stuff, not creating a scene and wasting people's time over a mild inconvenience.

It does seem stupid and petty on the schools part. Especially if S&P is just one hour a week and only has very few attendees.

The "slow walk" is not going to get any more pleasant in the winter either.

I'd try jogging home with the buggy as a first port of call.

Surely you can't be the only parent affected @ProudBrickBiscuit ? There has to be others who would normally leave a bike / scooter. Maybe you need to complain in numbers?

I agree with this. Completely impractical in cities where people use public transport to commute to work straight after drop off. And aren’t schools supposed to be encouraging families to bike/scoot to school rather than drive? There needs to be bike and scooter parking.

Do you have a Mum friend who lives close to the school who might let you store the buggy in their porch or garage during the day? It’s a short term problem since as others have said it’s unlikely you’ll be still using it once they start Reception

People run with prams all the time at park run.

Ha, our head definitely knows better than to expect blind compliance. If there's something that parents don't agree with, they have a right to speak out. That doesn't mean changing herself to the buggy shelter or throwing eggs at play and stay Mom's, but why the he'll shouldn't she be allowed to ask why and to suggest it's inconvenient?
