To think that Harry and his kids should have security

Frankly I don’t want another year of wondering if Harry will attend another event or stay in a palace or will or will not get security etc.

For the sake of our sanity the matter needs to be resolved.

Harry could become a working royal and Meghan could go back to being an actress - they are then both happy

Harry and the kids get protection and Meghan can pay for her own

If Harry and the PoW could make up it would make next year much better ( 30 year anniversary)

Meghan needs to stop trading ( in my opinion) on the memory of Diana ( if it is true she wanted to do a speech re Diana etc) Leave Diana to the boys only.

There are innocent children involved and they do need protecting.

Harry needs to change his attitude and stop fighting the system for the sake of the nations sanity. Meghan has to realise that she upset many of us re the courtesy thing etc and the attack on the POW and POW.

The POW needs to realise that Harry can’t steal his thunder.

Everyone needs to think of King Charles who frankly needs to have a break from all this.

I am not a Meghan supporter or a bot. I just can’t bear another 3 months of frenzied speculation. My head is done in.

What about protection for our children? Money should go to protect all children. Our children are more likely to be murdered by terrorists than h&m children. Statistics prove that. Why should we pay for them.

REALLY? No. My child is not more at risk from a terrorist than a grandchild of the King.

Where is your evidence?

Did you feel the same with regard to Andrew? He was the monarchs son but didn’t get automatic state security

I don’t feel the same, maybe I would have done when he was younger and his daughters were smaller. I also think with Harry there is his Afghanistan admissions, whilst Andrew was in the Falklands I don’t think the threat is the same (although you could argue there was no need to boast about it in his stupid book)!

Oh to have this much time on my hands 🙄🙄🙄🙄

This. Blimey op. I don’t care. I give all the royals as little headspace as possible. HAM can do WTF they like, as long as my taxes don’t pay for it! Or let KC pay if he’s bothered.

Thinkofnewthings · 15/09/2026 13:34

No. He doesn’t need taxpayer-funded security. And he can’t become a working royal ever again. That option is closed to him for ever.

No they weren’t. They were her great grandchildren and were always 20+ in the line of succession. Harry and his children are fifth, sixth and seventh.

There aren’t threads speculating on where Peter and Zara’s kids go to school. A poster on here was saying she hopes someone ‘gives Harry and Meghan a piece of their mind’ if they’re spotted in public. It’s not normal behaviour and that’s just on Mumsnet. It’s totally different from Peter and Zara’s situation.

No, I was talking about Peter and Zara, who were the Queen's grandchildren. Also, Edward's children were the monarch's grandchildren. Whatever they got security-wise would be comparable.

Or maybe people could get a more intetsting hobby and stop obsesing about them ?

Couldn't agree more. I have no idea why they're in the news as much as they are, or why people are so invested in it all.

Zimunya · 15/09/2026 13:23

As long as we are paying for Andrew's security I'm more than happy to pay for H&Ms. I'm not particular fans of H&M, but I do see that he and his family are targets for kidnap, attack, etc purely by dint of being born into / connected to the RF. Not his fault, and I don't think he should have to pay for that. The security team he currently has seem clueless - only tested the school run during the summer holidays when there was no traffic, and were then taken completely by surprise when the taffic situation changed at the start of term. Complete duffers. I wouldn't trust them with any security decisions whatsoever - they are hopeless.

Personally, while I think Andrew is a vile piece of shit that should be absolutely be prosecuted and preferably sent to jail for his sordid involvement in the Epstein mess and who-knows-what-else, I do still think he should be entitled to state protection.

As I said above, it has nothing to do with worthiness imo. It should be simply about risk.

You must do a lot of muting and barely hear any news

I think the advice that you can’t control the behaviour of others and you should focus only on your own actions and responses, completely applies here.

People seem to feel enraged by Meghan and Harry. It’s not just on MN, one of my closest and wonderful friends said openly she hates them. It’s such a waste of energy and I honestly think that some people have their own issues, want an excuse to hate or be angry and go looking for reasons to do so.

For your own sanity, switch channel or scroll past! Yes I do this a lot - I couldn’t bear it when Boris became PM or Trump became president and I stopped watching the news so I didn’t have to listen to them and feel angry, but I still kept up with world events online - my life is calmer and no less informed.

Leave them alone they are just enjoying their privacy and being intentional.

😂😂😂

Spidey66 · 15/09/2026 13:15

I don't have an issue with them having security. I do, however, have an issue with it being funded by the taxpayer. You can't leave a job but expect to keep the company car

Dameputtingonabraveface · 15/09/2026 13:13

Well they get constantly reviewed by Ravec who actually have the experience and intelligence to assess if they need the level of security the deluded souls think is their right. Wants and needs are very different things.

They could also actually be proactive and stop with the constant social media drops suggesting their location and public announcements about their whereabouts. Lots of proper A listens manage to keep their personal lives and children out of the public eye. These two private citizens are doing anything but carry-on privately. It is very entertaining, in the way Heat was in the 90s and the way Katie Price ensures she stays in the spotlight now.

If they really wanted they could actually have just quietly left (which most people respected) and then just get on with with their lives, because most people really do not care. The only reason they remain tabloid fodder/ gossip is because their actions and quite frankly astounding levels of entitlement/lack of any self awareness generate it.

Anyhow, as usual you will be told off by the mumsnet prefects you are unreasonable because you have not posted in the Royal family threads....

Snorlaxo · 15/09/2026 13:12

Yabu

They haven’t said that they want to be working royals. Presumably part of the reason why they stopped being working royals is because they want control over their finances, lives, image and their children’s lives. If they lived on a royal property then security would be included when the Sussex family were at home but they don’t want that living arrangement. I assume that they don’t want the family knowing who visits them etc Plus there is no indication that they even want “including” in the family in a distant Zara Tindall way.

As for forgiveness, you can only start that process if the other person is sorry and there’s no
indication that Harry is sorry.

It must be difficult for Harry to have friends up being told he must have armed security, then suddenly be told there’s actually no need for it for him or his kids.

Grown up*

Did you feel the same with regard to Andrew? He was the monarchs son but didn’t get automatic state security

He was getting state funded security well after he stepped back from public duties and his children got it until they were adults.

Crudd99 · 15/09/2026 13:08

Didimum · 15/09/2026 12:43

Because you can't pay for armed security in the UK.

If security is that bad in the uk why aren't celebrities, billionaires etc being murdered and kidnapped everyday? Harry wants someone else to pay because it's always been paid for. If it's so dangerous here why come back? Why doesn't he keep a low profile for the sake of his children's safety?

AI41 · 15/09/2026 13:07

BunfightBetty · 15/09/2026 13:03

Ok, but they were the monarch's grandchildren not so long ago, so whatever they got would be comparable.

If the experts have assessed they don't need it, then surely they don't?

And presumably Harry and Meghan weighed up losing the taxpayer-funded security when they decided to walk away from being working royals. A decision like that isn't one anybody takes lightly, without weighing up the pros and cons, surely....

They could help themselves by stopping courting the limelight and creating so many silly dramas.

I can’t stand the pair of them and think Harry has made some terrible choices BUT he is the Kings son and has grown up with that security, and whilst I think they are complete knobs I do think they need that security and quite frankly if it shuts them up I’ll swallow it as a tax payer.

Did you feel the same with regard to Andrew? He was the monarchs son but didn’t get automatic state security

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 15/09/2026 13:05

I'm no fan of Harry and Meghan. I think they're spoilt, entitled and badly advised. I'm also not a fan of the monarchy in general. The whole idea of a hereditary system based on birth rather than merit is deeply anachronistic and fundamentally flawed.

But the fact remains that this is the system that we have got. Harry was born into the Royal Family and he is the son of the king. He, Meghan and their children will inevitably be potential targets, regardless of whether they are working royals or not - he can't opt out of being the king's son. For me, it's a no-brainer that they should be given proper security.

It isn't about whether or not they are worthy. They deserve the security not because they are wonderful people who have earned it, but simply because they are at significantly elevated risk by virtue of Harry being the king's son.

StormGazing · 15/09/2026 13:04

They’re complete drama llamas the pair of them!
they have security, they pay! If they NEED armed security they’ll get it.
I thick the country will be up in armsif they get this through RAVEC because theyre not doing anything for the country, they splash themselves all over SM and have tonnes of leaks to the press … if they kept their lives more private no one would know what they’re doing … its all PR bollox and keeping themselves seem relevant, when they are not! Why should the tax payer foot their bill

x2boys · 15/09/2026 13:03

BunfightBetty · 15/09/2026 12:58

They're in the media as much as they are because they constantly promote themselves and air their silly dramas. They could just stop, and then their kids wouldn't be of such interest.

As for ignoring them - they are even in the Guardian
