I'm 37 and I collect and wear brooches. Not expensive ones, usually on eBay or in charity shops. I wear them on my lapel of my knee length tweed coat (which day to day I were over leggings, docs and a jumper). I often get complimented on them, especially if they're unusual.
Some of my favourites are:
A gold toned old fashioned telephone
A sunflower
A snowflake which is made out of blue glass stones
Beaded heather

ETA: I also have a very garish enamelled father Christmas that I love putting on during the festive season!

I think that's part of my problem - I never wear coats that are suitable for brooches.

I used to wear a lot in the 80s (in my 20s). Like you, on jackets, mainly denim, etc. Lots of us did in my social group and at 66 I’m not adverse to wearing one now and again. They were/are all pretty much vintage or bought in places like Johnson’s or La Rocka (plus a couple are my grandmothers) and I liked/like the edge that they can bring to a jacket. Probably wouldn’t wear on a thin fabric though - asking for trouble !

I wear Goth ones a lot. They look great. My favourite one is a silver tree nymph that I got from a random bloke at Glastonbury in return for a couple of cans of Special Brew

I wear brooches, mostly on coats or capes, also on dresses/tops to temporarily sort out iffy necklines. I'm fifty, been doing it for about 35 years, don't really care about being fashionable though.
For people who are worried about losing them - if you get some silicone earring backs, the kind that are some times on the card behind hook earrings, you can put one of those on the pin between your coat and the fastener and it's an extra bit of security. You can buy the backs on Amazon/fleabay for thruppence per million, or thereabouts.

I have a fair few vintage brooches, but then quite a lot of my clothes are vintage. I mostly wear them on jackets. They also look nice on knitted waistcoats.

I love brooches. I wear them to liven up my dull work jacket.
@theneighbourgotmycake I love the idea of pinning one on a sash/ tie belt! I'll have to try that.

I used to wear a brooch when I was a student, many years ago.I had a beautiful black alpaca jacket and I wore a brooch on that. And I wasn't a little old lady at a village fete. I was actually quite a trendy dresser when I was young. Not any more.
Your language is quite offensive OP. Stereotyping and ageist.

I use them to make my clothes behave better. Maybe to pin a neckline where I want it, or keep scarf/shrug/cardigan thing hanging correctly.

I often leave them attached to the item they work with- so I have a gorgeous felted sunflower that is attached to an autumnal coat, and an appliquéd flower that is on a cashmere sloppy woolly.

Randomly attaching them to things, no. Using them as a dramatic ornamental pin? Yes.

Have read only the first few posts. I wear them - am a shade over 60 but have always worn them.

I wear a lot of black and use them for colour relief. If the broach is heavy and flops a bit use a thin make-up sponge (like you get in a compact, the very dense foam ones) behind the fabric to pin it into.

I'm into brightly coloured acrylic brooches. I pin one on a winter coat or black jacket or anything with a plain dark background really. I've got 'proper' brooches but they seem old ladyish to me.

(I'm 74 with only one boob and I wear the brooch on the flat side - draws attention to my deformity!)

I do! I have lots of lovely bone china floral ones. I match them to my outfits and to the season. It makes me happy.

I'm 64. Godmother 84. We are both going to start wearing brooches.

I believe brooches are very 'in' at the moment, but I don't wear them that often. I think because I can't be doing with the faff of putting them on and taking them off again. I do have a couple of very good brooches inherited from my mother that I like to wear on a good coat (rather than an everyday cost or jacket).

I think I would like to wear them more actually - however I have to remember that after a certain age 'retro' clothing and jewellery just looks old-fashioned, while it looks fashionable on a young person.

I haven't worn one for years since my mother and I both had ours stolen off our coats as they were hanging on a rail in a posh local hotel.

Some girls wore them to close those bolero/ jacket/wrap type things we sometimes wore when younger at weddings. Not sure if you count that, as they looked like part of the jacket.
A lot of younger women seem to wear them now. Go for it, if you want.

I have got some lovely pewter ones, a couple of silver enameled ones and box of 1950s enameled ones that were my mother's. They are easily turned into pendants if you prefer to wear them that way. I think they add a nice detail to a plain jacket, or handy if the buttons on your dress/shirt don't come up high enough. I have some stick pins too that I have had since the 70s.

@Suchevilforebodings I have several from my mom that look like they’re part of a set (clip on earrings, bracelet, brooch). It made me think that my mom wasn’t very different from me in my 20’s. She most likely either shopped or I wonder if there were “jewelry parties” in the 1950’s? I never saw her wear them though. I miss my mom.

I have a couple of those. I have been a bit scared to wear them. Are they relatively robust?

They just remind me of the late and current Queens. Always a brooch somewhere on their person. It's Royally iconic I think, so I avoid. 😊

I have a lovely bee shaped one it's very bling and l only ever wear it on a smart coat and always get lovely comments.

Thanks @SockPlant for that tip, will certainly try it. I wonder if that's why royals wear their decorations on pads of folded fabric? Would make sense.

I think it depends how you wear them and what you wear.
