AIBU to think that Brandy Melville is taking the piss

BM has pretty much always had an awful business model and attitude towards customers. There’s a documentary about how awful they are.

Brandy Melville are amazing with regards to be able to have such a big and loyal customer base. My daughter loves them and so do all her friends. The fact they are able to do this with no sales, no fitting rooms, average quality, pretty run of the mill designs and no returns means they're doing something right, but to my very 'not their demographic' brain I honestly can't think what.

Pretty sure they do in store exchanges, like the equally annoying Subdued. Such a pain. I am glad my daughter is slowly growing out of liking this stuff.

I think what the poster is trying to say is that they are catering to the size that they are catering for. Whatever size that may be. The same as plus size shops are catering for those sizes. When I was in my early 20s, there were a couple of shops that only sold petite clothes.

I wasn't aware of these policies but no changing rooms + no refunds is absolutely shit customer service, I agree.

They do online. I agree though that it seems ridiculous that you can’t try it on in store, and stores don’t give refunds.

A lot of their stuff is stretchy though, so the designs fit more than one size. Probably size 6-10. People don’t have to buy it, but the demand is obviously there. The shop is always heaving.

But they aren’t catering to sizes - they only come in one size. If you want to wear their stuff, you need to be that size.

Part of the cost of being a clothes retailer is having to keep stock in different sizes. This shop doesn’t bother.

Completely agree OP my DD had the same experience, where people were told not to try the clothes on. I think its put her off too.
I think its unreasonable that you cant try on, but also cant be refunded but as a pp says that is legal. Its the same in sports direct but I wouldnt expect any better from there.

What???! Of course you need to try things on. Unless you dress in a sack, you need to try lots of things on to find a good fit.

It’s not saying that’s the size girls “should” be. It’s catering to certain body shapes and sizes in the same way that plus size shops are catering to bigger sizes, or shops like Long Tall Sally are catering for taller people.

It reminds me of Kookaï - they used to only stock two sizes - 1 (UK 8 or a small 10) and 2 (maybe a UK 12). It sends a weird, shit message to young girls that this is the size you are meant to be.

More fool anyone that is purchasing from a shop that doesn’t allow you to try on the products to see if they fit and on top of that doesn’t offer refunds. People need to vote with their feet to see changes.

This is why more and more people are buying online. You seem to have more rights. my daughter used to work in BM and theft was extremely common. I don’t blame them for getting rid of the changing rooms.

I know the sizing is controversial but some young teens and young women are naturally very thin. My daughter is extremely slim and a lot of of the clothes there were too big for her.

Of course, this is in addition to the fact that they do not give refunds.

I was surprised that was legal - but apparenly it is only faulty of wrongly descibed good that shops legally have to refund.

If you buy on-line or mail order though you do have right of return with 14 days for any reason under UK law.

What can you do but shop elsewhere - it must make bussiness sense for the shop or they think it does.

I’m not aware of this brand but it surprises me that people are still trying clothes on in shops, especially stretchy clothing like gym kit. Surely there is no need. Makes sense to save floor space by getting rid of changing rooms to me. Agree that they should allow refunds though.

Yes, we discovered that last month! It’s very strange not being able to try on. I just got my daughter to try on a blouse quickly in the corner, over the top of her clothes. I know it’s one size, but some stuff doesn’t fit. It’s a ridiculous policy, especially as they don’t offer refunds. I don’t mind the quality, but I can’t see them lasting much longer with their policies about trying on and returns.

I havent found that. My daughters t shirts are good quality, thick and wash well.

it will be theft and make up on them I bet. It was like the seventh circle of hell in those changing rooms though so I won’t miss it.

I didn't know she had a clothes line but no trying on and no refunds doesn't seem right!

I would disagree on that point - my dd is now 24 and has had BM clothes for at least 5 years, washed dozens of times and still in very good condition.

The quality of the clothes is poor. And the one size is ridiculous.
