I’ve seen too many clips of this for my liking. I do Hyrox at the gum and you get very up close and personal with the shared equipment / floor space. It’s beyond awful that she was allowed to continue and spread her germs and stink around. They need to rethink their rules about this ASAP.

Totally inappropriate in that kind of shared environment. It’s not pleasant in running either but that’s a very different setting to a gym with shared space and equipment. She should not have been allowed to continue.

Apparently GL admitted it afterwards, and said that he'd been feeling really unwell. You can see him scoot across the pitch in the exact same way that a guilty-looking dog scoots across your lovely clean carpet!

I've heard cycling-mad friends use this term in this context, and it always causes confusion (and sometimes shock!) amongst non-cycling types like me, when you first hear it!

You just think that, when they tell you about two of them travelling through a beautiful country lane and then they have to stop as they're about to bonk... couldn't they have just kept that as a special secret memory between themselves?!

Given there is obviously no rules or protocols in place for athletes who shit themselves, and spread that shit all over.. I wonder if it was a deliberate tactic.

I’m not squeamish and sport makes me need to poo. I wouldn’t inflict that on anyone. I stop, do what I need to do and get back to it. Obviously I’ll never be a professional athlete until I get over that!

I don’t think it’s disgusting in the sense that it’s a normal bodily reaction and can very commonly happen during exercise. However I do think in the interests of health, safety and dignity she should have been made to clean up. It can’t have been pleasant for her and even less pleasant for those competing in the same area.

Its grim. So not ideal for runners or cyclists as people say it happens but least they are outside and people anrt having to use equipment covered in poo!

The shits is quite common in runners but runners aren't really affecting anyone else.

This. It’s not the shitting herself. People shit themselves all over the world every day and it’s not a symptom of moral decline we need to clutch our pearls over. It’s the impact on others. I blame the organisers, in a way. But then perhaps they naively assumed they didn’t need a ‘no smearing shit on the equipment’ clause in the rules, I dunno. I do hope everyone would be equally appalled if she’d been a man, though. There is something about being reminded that women have bodily functions that seems to lead to baffling vitriol in some folk.

Anyone saying that it’s ok obviously hasn’t seen some of the photos posted online. She literally has shit all down her legs. It’s obscene. She obviously doesn’t care (which is so very odd anyway) but as soon as it happened officials should have stepped in and removed her. I don’t care how much hard work she put in, other competitors did too and their event was spoiled. I honestly think she should be banned from further competitions.

Very much agree with this- I think it also speaks to the cult like mentality of exercise systems like hyrox that it attracts these unhealthy vulnerable people

Agree. Extreme athletes are often mentally unwell, attention seeking individuals using athletic ability as a shield. There's also an underlying theme of self-harm and body fetish kinks.

A surgeon operating for 10 hours is infinitely more admirable and valuable for humanity than some woman who shits herself rolling a big ball. A surgeon will also take bathroom breaks and not claim their work is more important than everything else at that moment.
