What she did was shameful, I just pointed that out to the posted who said the athlete should not be shamed. I was responding so using the language used by that person. I was really pointing out the difference between the act of shitting yourself - ok fine whatever, and shitting yourself and spreading it in shared spaces and in equipment used by others. - not fine. A lot of posters are focused on it being an accident, and are completely missing the fact that what happened next was quite deliberate. A choice.

I think you've taken too many swigs from the jug of melodrama.. and if you go back and re-read my post, you'll clearly see I made the distinction between i/an accident during an intense sporting even and ii/making the decision to continue covered in your own poo, without any regard for the health of your fellow sporting cohort

in my world, if you shit yourself in the middle of an intense sporting event, you stop and go get cleaned up to the point you won't spread ecoli around the place.. which usually means getting a thorough hot shower with soap

or you can boast about it and say "by whatever means necessary" and get suitably flamed

If someone thinks shitting themselves mid-competition and not calling a halt (because 'accidents' do happen) and instead, decides that going for glory is more important, they may not be the "dedicated athlete at the top of their game", they think they are, but more "selfish and unhygienic bastard that does not mind putting the health of their fellow competitors at risk".

If this is the hard-end of the culture of Hyrox, then those people, including the organisers have taken a sharp deviation from normality.

Crossfit and Hyrox does attract the loons though - all the moves, done badly and with none of the safety. Just another fad sport, encouraged by social media

Hmm. I think she was brave/crazy to continue. But, and it is a big but, how did this adversely affect her competitors? Were they inconvenienced by the 'product' e.g. smell, appearance etc.? Could the equipment, including the ground, be contaminated? Could they have been put at risk by infection? If the answer is yes to any of these, then no, she shouldn't have been allowed to continue.

Did other people behind her use the same equipment or lie on the floor after she did? Because I can’t imagine anyone would be remotely ok with that!

It's a sad reflection on our society if athletes are so without self awareness that we need to build that into sports as a rule.

She's presumably an intelligent grown-up; she should have made the decision herself and shouldn't need anyone telling her she needed to leave.
