AIBU to question why crypto investors are heavily funding Reform?

To wonder why cryptocurrency investors are donating so much money to Reform. This follows the announcement of a £36m donation from another cryptocurrency billionaire (a record donation for a UK political party). It means that by far the majority of their funding comes from crypto investors.

Whats the c word other than the usual? My reply which was really basic and innocuous has also been hidden for review. I have no problem with them reviewing my posts but usually would have some idea of why.

id like to know this too. Can it be as simple as other parties haven’t been particularly crypto friendly and they see an opportunity to force one to be? Although my understanding is the crypto world doesn’t seem to care about government anyway

Are people equally not happy with its an oil tycoon donating millions of pounds to a political party? I habe made some.money on crypto I was lucky to , decided to spend it on a lovely new garden but hey the guy made money he can spend it how he wants to.

Most people vote for a political party where they might see benefits themselves some vote for altruistic better good of society views and? Nothing wrong with thay either.

As I understand it Nigel would make C an ‘official’ currency. You could pay your employees and taxes in it. Anyone who runs the tech that this would need would make money.

That's a very, erm, interesting way of looking at things. Unregulated, largely used by criminals wanting to hide their billions, and a massive Ponzi scheme to boot. Of course Reform are into it 😁 What's not to love 🤨

That isn't really what crypto is though. It's mainstream now and a huge number of people in the UK use it.

Because crypto bros want as much deregulation as possible and that's the unspoken promise made to them by Reform. Anyone who believes we (as in ordinary Brits) will be more prosperous under a Reform government is utterly naive.

Concerns about c-money aren't because the tech is new and shiny but because humans are doing old and dirty things with it – that humans always do.

C-money offers large opportunities for these dirty things, and regulation needs to catch up.

Same pattern as social media and children.

What did the donor say were his reasons?

It’s 16 years since the first real-world purchase using bitcoin; and most big investment banks have people working on crypto - the idea that crypto is still a signifier of independent non-establishment thinking is out of date. But then there’s nothing new about the “anti-establishment” stuff that Reform are coming out with either - it’s extremely reminiscent of the playbook used by the blackshirts in the 1930s, even if the details have been tweaked.

Whilst I’m concerned about the crypto stuff, I’m more concerned about political leanings. When you see how Bannon, Miller and their ilk play Trump like a puppet for their own very right wing agenda, the concern that Farage is susceptible to that really worries me.

If you think Nigel and his mates will make any difference to how the rich operate you are not well informed on tax and tax avoiders. If someone already has 36 million to give away it is very unlikely that there is much Nigel and his pals can do when they are in government to benefit that person, the people who want/need to avoid tax already know how to do it (it is more likely that the gift is a tax avoidance move in itself rather than some conspiracy loon plan to control Britain, or still more likely that the person just supports their obviously sensible political views)
