AIBU to question why crypto investors are heavily funding Reform?

To wonder why cryptocurrency investors are donating so much money to Reform. This follows the announcement of a £36m donation from another cryptocurrency billionaire (a record donation for a UK political party). It means that by far the majority of their funding comes from crypto investors.

They are shits. End of.

pointythings · 12/09/2026 09:13

Because Reform will deregulate, meaning very rich assholes like that will continue to get away with not paying tax and getting richer and richer. Which will trickle down - to Nige and his mates. They are the party of grift. People who vote for them are mugs.

AhBiscuits · 12/09/2026 09:15

Fascist parties like reform always look after the rich and demonise the poor and vulnerable.

RoniaCheetah · 12/09/2026 09:15

I just love how these millionaires keeping talking about the 'elites' doing this and that. Mate, if you're a millionaire you ARE the elite.

To hide the real money trail back to Putin

This.

Deregulation to lead to profiteering for a few and destablisisation of democracies to benefit Putin and the other autocrats.

Newbutoldfather · 12/09/2026 09:19

It’s the Trump model.

If Reform get in, they will look kindly on crypto and regulate it lightly, if at all.

Maybe Farage will even release a meme coin nearer the time.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/09/2026 09:19

Its money laundering.

Plus look at the history of the donors - criminals and their associates. If Reform were above board, they would reject these mega donations.

Ginmonkeyagain · 12/09/2026 09:22

Never met anyone who is in to crypto who isn't a massive bellend.

BermudaRhombus · 12/09/2026 09:25

It seems like curious timing to announce it when Reform are facing so many funding related issues. I wonder if it will just provide more ammunition for Reform’s opponents.

They announced it because it was about to be reported on anyway. I think the Times had it, so they announced it to the Telegraph.

The Times were going to run a critical story on Sunday regardless so they announced it ahead of that.

This was talked about on Times radio this morning.

Ahhh, that explains it.

I surprised the OP got past MN moderation nothing wrong with the OP but it contains the C word.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 12/09/2026 09:34

Its an interesting question. Ignoring most of the knee jerk predictable posts on here that don't really add anything, I suspect the deregulation issue made by @pointythings might be right. Also perhaps if you are into crypto you are thinking outside the mainstream and established way of doing things and perhaps Reform's claim of being the same resonates. Who knows. What did the donor say were his reasons?

Whats the c word other than the usual? My reply which was really basic and innocuous has also been hidden for review. I have no problem with them reviewing my posts but usually would have some idea of why.

Edit...its the post immediately above this one. Why would that have been immediately hidden? Weird.

They're like the bloke whose wife asks if he's cheating, aren't they?

Only ever admit to the parts she already knows.

BermudaRhombus · 12/09/2026 09:37

From what I’ve seen so far, he just said he wanted the next election to be a ‘level playing field’. He intended to fund something like £1m per month, but has rolled it into a single mega-donation to avoid any forthcoming caps on donations.

BermudaRhombus · 12/09/2026 09:38

Perhaps I’m cynical, but I always think that someone giving a huge amount of money is usually expecting something in return.

A "level playing field" between billionaire him and... me?

Sounds plausible.Grin

BermudaRhombus · 12/09/2026 09:41

I imagine that suitable deregulation is the sort of thing that could propel a ‘normal’ billionaire into the ‘mega’ billionaire league. So maybe a £37m gamble is worth it.
