She reminds me of my MIL at that age which in hindsight was the beginnings of mixed dementia removing her filter. E g making a loud comment in a cafe that "people like that shouldn't be in here" about a well known lovely local lad with learning difficulties who tended to be a bit noisy.

She knows exactly what she is doing. She sets out to shock because it amuses her. Programmes keep bringing her on precisely because they know she's a loose canon and she is a talking point. I knew she was batshit when I watched her Australia programme and she ate a whole raw onion for breakfast the way you would eat an apple - apparently a regular habit. The breath!!!

Of course you wouldn't use it at work - it's a self-describing label that some disabled people are re-claiming for themselves, because it is offensive. It's not a politically correct term to use.

Minoritised groups often reclaim offensive words to take back power. This has a long history.

Or maybe you have just reclaimed it for yourself ! I agree groups of people might reclaim words for each other amongst their peers etc etc. That doesn't mean it is for general use or discussion. If Miriam Margolyes personally referred to me as a "cripple" to try and relate she would get an earful, i am in a group for women with my specific disability we are not all calling each other cripples.

MM reminds me of my sister, 70, who has neurological issues going on. I'm not keen on MM. Lots of assumptions are made about celebrities, the clips of Cillian Murphy handling them are worth a watch on YouTube. It shouldn't be done, but it is. I don't find the Graham Norton show funny, ir particularly entertaining, it has a undertone that I can't get passed. However I'm not seeing what MM said this time as really problematic.

Miriam was on TV to talk about her book not interrogate the hosts about "what they are" out of the blue then question their race as if she knew better. Showing interest in people is fine, if it is in context, interrupting someone trying to do their job so you can go off on a racist inappeopriate tangent isn't fine.

Oh gosh, I didn't know this was still rumbling on. She'd really hate me i.e. a fat cripple who has a condition she (given what a pp has said) probably thinks is made up. 🙄

Such a shame, she always seemed pretty likeable I thought.
