Why are people so sanctimonious about people watching TV on holiday

It is absolutely your holiday and you can do whatever you like with it.

I admit I find it strange to spend hundreds or thousands of pounds with the intention of doing nothing different than I'd be doing at home, however. It seems like a waste of money to me. Illogical. I don't judge, I just can't get into the mindset.

Oh I agree with you. I just got back from Mexico and on 3 days my DH and kids went off to play golf or do watersports. I spent those days laying in bed with room service watching murder docs and real housewives. It was bliss.

I barely get time to read or watch TV at home as I am always too busy with 5 kids and a full time job so I totally get you. As well as swimming, sight seeing, fitness activities, beach, pool, boat ride, day trips etc etc I like to catch up on reading and TV while on holiday. I usually just watch on my phone or laptop though as then you only need a wifi connection.

We like a bit of telly in the evenings on holiday. Our holidays are non stop, we're out and about day and evening and then when we get home I just want to watch a bit of nonsense with a cuppa while waiting to go to bed.

I must admit it does baffle me that people will want to watch TV on holiday, but that’s because I don’t watch TV at home either! I don’t judge them though, it’s just not for me. People can do what they want on holiday, that’s the point of holidays!

I find it baffling, but you do you, obviously.

I love to watch TV in bed on an evening on holiday, with snacks! It’s absolute bliss!

Because being away from home is a totally different experience. When one is not surrounded by their day to day life this can feel like a massive break.

some people like to spend days and days sitting by a lake fishing. Others want to sit by a cosy fire and read for hours. Others want to climb a mountain or go shopping.
no idea why these different forms of relaxation bewilder you.

We are on holiday, been out all day. It’s 10.30 at night, we’re watching a Dolly Parton tribute act film as there’s no smart tv and it’s on film 4.

Too tired to read after being up since 5am, tv it is !

I love skiing/ hiking holiday and then come back, shower, early dinner, 4 hours of binge TV with a few glasses of wine. Absolute bliss!!

Personally DH and I use holidays as a chance to properly spend some time together in the evenings. At home we’re always so bloody busy with kids/chores etc that we barely get chance to just connect. So on holiday we’ll sit with a glass or two of wine and just chat! Sometimes we’ll play card games, or board games. Sometimes we just sit together and read.
But as I said, I don’t judge others for watching TV.

Sounds lovely! I don't watch TV but we often give the kids TV time on holiday in the middle of the day, to give them time out of the sun. Sometimes they choose to do other things at that time (eat, sleep, play with toys, Lego etc) but it's useful to persuade them to stay inside for a bit! In the evening I sit outside on the balcony/terrace with a glass of wine and just enjoy the view and the quiet. ☺️

Came back from Tenerife last week , I wanted to watch tv at night, we were always back in room for 11.00 the latest .
I was on holiday with my 2 youngest, 19 & 15 , so annoying everything in Spanish !!

It tends to be when you’re in Spain 😂

I am currently on a UK break and the TV doesn't work- the host has said there is loads to do elsewhere.

This is a really rude response. If the cooker wasn't working, would they tell you there's loads of restaurants?

I don’t watch it either, but one night on holiday, DH had gone out to watch the football, and I didn’t fancy it. So I switched the TV on & opened a bag of holiday crisps (the best kind!). The novelty was quite nice! Don’t understand a word of Spanish, but I got the gist.

Our holidays are always a bit full on generally. A lot of culture and we get up early. So, we read, or listen to podcasts in the evening.
We're actually going abroad soon though with the sole intention of doing bugger all for a change!! Lying by the pool or beach... totally relaxing. I can already see myself excusing why we're not doing much. Crazy, it's a holiday! We do what we like.
I think if people want to watch TV on holiday, that's up to them! I can take it or leave it on holiday.
Most places have a TV though, so there must be a lot of people who want a TV, or they wouldn't put them in.

I love reading but I also find it bizarre why someone coming home from a holiday and saying they read three or four books is treated with respect when someone who says they binge watched a TV series gets a raised eyebrow. There is never a question asked as to whether the person reading was reading complete trash or some academic tome, it is automatically seen as superior even though both can be done in exactly the same situation.

Jeepers what keeps you busy at home if no tv ?

Out and about all day, glass of wine in bed with the telly at night! But its just me and the (teenage) kids and they are mainly on their phones once back at the accommodation so it was just me myself and Bob L'eponge 😆

I always download loads of tv onto iPad or phone for holidays, also take my kindle and some jigsaws and Lego
Currently in Turkey and have read 14 books so far, built all my Lego, done a few jigsaws and snoozed round the pool to iPlayer history programmes
I’ve also had lots of time to sight see, go on boat trips, eat and drink far too much etc etc

Of course you can watch TV. You are out and about during the day, come back to cook a dinner then relax. And if you have young kids they need to go to bed at some point and you can then… watch tv and relax! @Limeandfigs it’s not doing the same thing as at home except for a couple hours in the evening mostly. What else? Eat out? Go to the clubs/theatre? Doesn’t work with kids. But I don’t get how you can go to Mexico and spend the DAY in a room with room service - you can do that without the flights and expense at a hotel near where you live if you want a break @Ohhhthedrama.
I don’t understand how people can go abroad and then spend all day every day on a plastic sun lounger by the hotel pool either.
