Why are people so sanctimonious about people watching TV on holiday

I'm not convinced.

People who don't watch much television at home are unlikely to change that habit on holiday.

In my experience, people who watch a lot of television at home find it hard to break the habit on holiday.

In my personal experience, I don't tend to watch TV on holiday, especially if I am abroad. We had a week in the UK last week and the TV in our room stayed switched off all week.

Although I admit to watching Black Sands on Netflix on my Kindle, but that is the only screen watching I did. Generally we just read after we have eaten.

Anyone who hasnt watched the Spanish soap opera that they repeat constantly, about a mad set of people who live in an apartment block and argue like the billio about everything and anything and their lives and farces, has not lived.

We are on holiday. It’s 30 - 32 degrees most days. We hire a car to get around, as there’s no public transport here. DH pursues his hobby, which means walking along donkey tracks between fields in the midday sun or round salt pans, or up and down mountain tracks.

We have a stop at a cafe for a cold drink and the toilets, during the day. What with the heat and exercise, I’ve usually had enough by 5 pm.

We go out for dinner, and then I am too physically tired to do anything but watch TV! Considering most of the other guests in the hotel either spend the day on sun lounges round the pool or on the beach, I don’t see what’s wrong with being exhausted and watching TV.

Her first activity listed was ‘posting on here’…

Did she say she was baffled? Or just state a fact that she preferred doing other things?

We quite often watch an hour of telly (on a tablet) on holiday. We share a room with our daughter and she goes to /bedsleep a bit earlier and we can't really go out and leave her so it's nice to chill on the bed and watch the next episode of the show we are enjoying before going to bed ourselves.

It's never occurred to me that it is anything to be ashamed of. It's definitely not "just doing what you do at home". We've usually been out and about most of the day, no work, no housework, it's completely different. We could read instead I suppose (I do still read on holiday but nothing like as much as I used to before I got a tablet!) but it's quite nice to watch the same thing together.

Exactly. I believe most museums and other cultural places of interest are closed at night, and walking rocky paths, climbing cliffs etc are rather dangerous after dark.

I love having a rain day on holidays where we watch tv and eat comfort food without feeling guilty. Last holiday, ds was missing home a little and that's exactly what we did - fixed!

only because you could book a week off work and watch TV all week and spend the money you would have done on accommodation on fancy food, takeaways and a cleaner if you so wish.

I would be angry though if i went on holiday in the UK and the TV didn’t work so you’re yanbu on that!

Love watching terrestrial tv on holiday after a full day. Feels nostalgic. Home makeover shows or a random old film that’s on. There’s something quite calming about having not much choice over what to watch. At home we spend ages deciding what series or film and then end up being too tired to watch it.

We went glamping last weekend with DS2, DDIL and DGS. The telly wasn’t turned on at all. DGS doesn’t have screen time at home so he never asked for it. We were busy in the day, played cards at night, then went straight to bed. I didn’t miss the telly at all tbh, and I hardly scrolled on my phone either because the WiFi was crap. I think it did me good.

We’re going to Menorca on Saturday. We might put the telly on in the morning, while we’re getting breakfast etc to see the news, and again when we come in from whatever we’ve done in the day but that’ll be it. By the time we get back from eating out, it’ll be time for bed. If I was on holiday with small children who needed to be in bed early I’d probably try to find something to watch.

My DH doesn’t watch much at home but he absolutely loves to find either a cheesy or action film and watch it after our nights out on holidays with a large glass of red wine.

I don't think anyone's actually doing that for a week, though.

They care enough to explain themselves because people are making erroneous and derogatory assumptions about them. Most people explain themselves in that situation.

And what about the person with the sneery comment about me editing pictures?

So, when someone sneers at you, you're allowed to get cross. But when someone sneers at a TV watcher, they're 'very defensive'. Quite the double standard.

But I'm not the one sneering at a tv watcher. I don't give a shit. So why sneer at me
