To regret the colour of my bedroom

We're moving into a new house and I spend a lot of time deliberating over which colour to paint my bedroom. Green is my favourite colour and a lot of things I own are green - clothes, my phone, my car, my old car and much more. I considered other colours but thought I should go with green as it's my favourite... what could go wrong?

Well the shade of green I've chosen is proving tricky to work with and I now see a lot of inspiration pictures on instagram making me regret my choice. You will see from the photo it's not horrible but the problem is I also want green lampshades, curtains, accessories etc. Which is too much bloody green. If I'd gone with a more neutral colour I could've had green as the accent! I'd repaint it right now but it's a big room and the paint was quite expensive, I got it from Valspar at B&Q and they gave me heavy duty instead of normal so it was a bit dear.

What do I do, repaint the room or just deal with it. I think I want cream carpet but don't really want cream curtains, it's a bit plain. I actually want deep blood red curtains but most people in my life are telling me they will look awful!

YABU - it's fine (give me ideas for which other colours I could incorporate)
YANBU - repaint it!!

I used to have a room this colour, instead of neutral walls and accent colour, I went the opposite so I had bright (ish) walls and neutral accessories. It looked nice! It was actually quite calming even though the walls were brighter than intended.
However, if you just don’t like it and you’ve already bought/picked out your accessories then I would repaint. Otherwise you’ll always be annoyed and it’ll be harder to repaint with carpet and furniture in there. If it’s been over 6 months and you still don’t like it then I think you have your answer

It looks quite calming to me.
A newly decorated room in a completely different shade often takes a while to get used to imo.
Move furniture back in, put up pictures look for accessories that incorporate some green as well other colours so maybe not solid colour . Live with it and see what how it settles, if you still hate it change it. Ive made decorating mistakes before and sometimes had to live with it due to time/budget but often once to move in furniture, hang up pictures etc it gets broken up and all comes together well.

It’s a nice colour but I don’t like it for the whole room. I’d want something more muted.

How about putting some panels on the walls and putting some wallpaper in the panels?
coving would definitely help too. I love the colour, I’m a green person too. I did our bedroom last year and have a beautiful flower mural on one wall with a green picked from the wallpaper and green & cream striped curtains with a green wardrobe. Mines more sage green. The mural wall has green and a sort of mauve/ pink flower so I’ve picked out a very light mauve bedspread to match, it’s cosy.

I think you can consider the following options -

  1. Use wood/ natural materials as furniture etc which I'm glad to see you are going to do anyway. They will add a lot of warmth. Keep bedding and accessories neutral with a little green (different shades, not same as walls) and some patterns and textures. Add some brass accents too.
  1. Go all out green on green. You will need to repaint the ceiling green too- the shade can be lighter, darker, same depending on ceiling height and the final look you are aiming for. I don't know why you think you can't have green lamps and cushions anymore, you absolutely can. Just don't choose the same shade. You should also add some green patterns and textures in the mix to keep it interesting.
  1. Pick a complementary colour e.g. blue or burgundy. Use a fabric that has both green and the complementary colour as your window treatment. For lamps use the complementary colour. For bedding and throws use both colours as well. Add some patterns and textures in the mix.
  1. Wallpaper the ceiling and bring is down to the walls slightly all around. Please don't do a feature wall, it's outdated and will not have any impact.

I can't reply to everyone so will just put an update here, I didn't think this post would get so much attention!

A couple of people have said coving... I'm off work this week so going to have a go at fitting it myself, I think it looks lovely in any home.

Chat GPT... I have been using it but only have the free version so limited to how many pictures I can make.

No red curtains ! instead I'm going to get some with a pattern. What my picture doesn't show is the room is a long L shaped room with one smaller window and then a huge window on the 'tail' of the L, so to speak. The small window is getting a Roman blind and the big window will have curtains

Definitely having light cream carpet. Will it ever look cream with an ever-moulting black cat?!

As for the green, I really want to make it work so I think I'll stick with it for now. If I'm thinking of adding a dado rail around the room and then having the bottom section of the wall papered with patterned paper so it isn't just all plain! I hope to introduce lots of colour into the room, many of you have said pink which I like, but others too!

I'm creating a lot of work for myself here 😂I might post pictures of the finished room eventually but I have so much going on in life, this room is the tip of the iceberg!

I absolutely love it, and think with dark wood furniture and some kind of patterned curtains, duvet cover, and cushions it will look stunning.

Please, PLEASE come back and post a picture when it is completed, I would love to see it.

I would love to see finished pictures. I'm actually quite excited to see the end result!

I love colour and there are far too many people who are frightened of it. The suggestions to repaint in white or cream made me shudder!

Just warm it up with lightish oak venetian blinds, picture frames, lamp shade, some lovely neutral bedding and a hanging plant. It could be a lovely calming space. I always gravitate towards greens. I'm currently not entirely happy with my hallway and landing 😖

Lol why are you using those as examples? They’re a completely different shade of green from whatever institutional pistachio situation the OP has going on.

Institutional Pistachio sounds like a Farrow & Ball shade.

I had similar in my room with blush pink accents and it was lovely. Cream carpet or beige would work fine.

Do pinks to contrast and break it up. With creams and maybe some taupe. Think nature summer English garden of roses.

Because they show how my suggestions might look when applied. Yes, they are not the exact shade of green OP has but the ideas are still applicable and anyone with a little imagination can see that which you obviously don't have.

You have contributed nothing to the conversation so far other than ridiculing OP and now me.

I love green too but wouldn’t have gone with this green. It’s not adult green to me.
