@Empress13 no it's hasn't he has never directly been so verbally aggressive to us

In 2024 Putin warned of "catastrophic consequences" for the UK if the UK supplied long range missile components to Ukraine. The specific targets mentioned were UK military bases both in the UK and abroad. He then went on Russian State TV and explicitly stated that he was taking about potential nuclear attacks.

It was also around this time that Medvedev suggested that any attempt by Western powers, obviously including the UK, to return Russia to it's 1991 borders would result in all-out nuclear attacks upon all significant targets in Western Europe and the USA. Essentially a threat to bring about armageddon if the west continued to thwart Russian efforts at territorial expansion.

It has escalated across 2026 with Putin's cabinet expressly denoting the UK as a "legitimate wartime target", and the Russian Foreign ministry accusing the UK of "playing with fire" and warning of strikes against installations involved in the supply chain of goods going to Ukraine.

This might not be coming directly from Putin's own mouth, but it's undoubtedly reflective of his own views and likely orchestrated directly by him, so it's as good as the man saying these things himself.

So no, it hasn't been "going on for months", it's been going on for years. It's nothing new, and yet there is still no indication that Putin has any intention whatsoever of following through on any of it.

I think you’ll find that wrong he has been threatening using missiles for a long time as PP has pointed out years in fact

it is unlikely to be a big attack. Much more likely to be a cyber attacks, etc. Can you take any sensible precautions- some extra cash out, a bit of extra water and food.

Switch off the news. Look at something nice instead. Plan a nice activity with DC

look for anxiety coping skills.

I don't think its helpful on the one hand advising OP to get extra cash (?), food and water, presumably to prep in case Putin decides to nuke UK, and then to go for a nice day out with her children. I think the prepping advise is just going to feed into her anxiety ( apologies if you were being facicious)

Quite. Can just imagine 🤔

’There was a button, a big beautiful button. Some may say the biggest and best.
I pushed it, you see there were some naaasty people over there, possibly the worst people and we have to eradicate them.
Already I’ve had a call, such a great call, really nice call. Andy said to me ‘Donald I don’t know how you did it but you did and we are so thankful’ I told him don’t worry we always take care of things. I’ve seen the people there , bit hot, bit burned but they have been saying too from their hospital beds that they just want to thank me. It was a great bomb. I’ve made bombs great again. ‘

😂

There is 0% chance of Russia bombing the UK. At the very most, if Putin gets desperate, he will bomb British military targets in Ukraine but not on British soil. This is not very likely either, Putin is trying to blackmail and threaten. Russia is getting weaker and Putin is not having a good time, Ukraine is not giving up and doing a lot of damage to Russian army. He would have to lose his mind completely to attack a country where he has zero chance of winning. He wants Ukraine but is too weak to take since Ukraine gets support from Europe, so now he's trying to threaten us into not helping Ukraine. Don't fall for that. Burnham is doing the right thing standing up to him.

Putin is getting nervous about the situation in Russia. There are long queues at petrol stations due to fuel shortages, power cuts, Ukrainian drone attacks. Not to mention people's young sons being sent off to the meat grinder in Ukraine without much military training. Russians are an interesting nation - they are willing to withstand those adverse conditions for the promise of a return of Great Russia. This is what the Ukraine war is about - Putin wanting to show his people that he's a great conquerer so that they let him stay in power. This has now backfired and he's increasingly more in trouble. He is in no position to start another war with a strong country.

Here is an article on what targets could potentially be hit but it's extremely unlikely as almost all of them are based in NATO countries. The head of CIA has recently travelled to Russia to tell them to not dare attack a NATO country.

Cash, food water is in case of power cuts that last a few days (risk of Russian hackers attacking a power plant), not nuking. There is 0% chance of Putin nuking the UK, you'd have to be completely clueless to think this is a likely scenario

Replying more to the earlier comment in the thread - Israel has repeatedly refused to provide any kind of aid to Ukraine. You really have to be antisemitic to think that Zelensky is Netanyahu's puppet only because he's Jewish.

You also must've been asleep for the past few years to not see that Putin's buddy Trump is Netanyahu's puppet. Netanyahu is friends with Jared Kushner's fraudster dad. He stayed at the Kushner family home in New Jersey as a family guest when Jared was a teenager. Now Netanyahu has an opportunity to influence the US foreign policy through Jared's and Ivanka's influence on Trump

No, he really is not. This is nothing but ignorant propaganda.

Not propaganda at all . Both he( Putin) and the other , orange, idiot across the Atlantic care only about their own aggrandisement and short term popularity . It wouldn"t take much for either of them to be be nudged into pressing the ' nuke 'em" button . Both warmongers, both losing wars they should not have entered/ started.

Yes it is, it's just a lazy trope.

Vladimir Putin is not "insane", a "nutter", or any other word you might choose to describe the same thing. He's an intelligent, cunning, and manipulative man, he's also callous, venal, vain, and yes, self-aggrandising, but he isn't crazy or deranged, and he's not about to pitch the world toward nuclear armageddon just for the lols.

Trump definitely is in cognitive decline, but the issue with him is more a fundamental lack of intelligence to begin with. He's a moron.

dizzydizzydizzy · 29/08/2026 15:10

I’m not particularly worried about conventional war but I am worried about more devious stuff -
For example increased levels of cybercrime, especially that targeted to sabotage key infrastructure.

Aaah, sorry, I got it wrong ...one and a half million ( YES MILLION) of his young population killed or injured and for still no Ukranian defeat in sight and he keeps pushing them to the frontline to be slaughtered ...if thats not the sign of a madman then I would be very interested to hear what your criteria would be for one ?

Russians have never been appalled by huge losses. Look up their losses in the Revolutions, WW 1 and 2, those millions starved, deported to Gulags or just killed under Stalin.

They don't turn a hair at it. Seriously.

BMW58 · 29/08/2026 16:38

*Tens of millions of deaths have occurred in Russia and the former Soviet Union since 1900 due to major wars, famines, political repressions, and natural mortality.

Major Historical Catastrophes (1900–Present)

  • World War I (1914–1918): Approximately 2.8 to 3.4 million Russian military deaths. 1]
  • Russian Civil War and Famine (1917–1922): Estimated 7 to 12 million deaths from combat, disease, and starvation.
  • Stalinist Repressions and Gulags (1930s–1950s): Estimates range from 3 to 10+ million deaths including executions, forced labor, and political purges.
  • World War II / Great Patriotic War (1941–1945): An estimated 27 million Soviet military and civilian deaths.
  • Soviet Famines (e.g., 1930–1933): Millions died across the Soviet Union, heavily affecting regions like Kazakhstan and Ukraine. 1]
  • Modern Conflicts (2014–Present): Tens to hundreds of thousands of casualties in ongoing military engagements like the Russo-Ukrainian War. 1]*

Thought I'd save you the bother. Obviously the Ukraine Invasion stats are outdated.

Russia has apparently been helping Iran against the USA and the IRG shut down a power station for four days recently.

So with the IRG operating smuggling routes into the UK and bringing irg operatives in who knows what will happen ? We are wide open arnt we

MeganM3 · 29/08/2026 16:50

I have horrible fearful anxiety about something else (my youngest getting trapped under a bus or a car) and so I do understand the irrational fear of it being on your mind. And the feeling is real. It’s awful. Even if you know it’s unlikely to happen it’s still there - it’s anxiety.

FWIW I think more likely to be killed in a road traffic accident then by Russia. But I’m biased because that’s where my fear lives.

You seriously don't think we also have covert systems operating or ready to go into operation??

What on Earth leads you to believe we are " wide open"?
Russia is living in the past and has been for decades. I know. I've been there. I saw what they really have compared to what they project.

Yes true , but that doesn't make it a sane act to keep throwing cannon fodder at the " enemy" ...honestly Putin has a very shallow learning curve ...as do many other world leaders. It's all ok as long as it's someone elses relatives that are getting blown to bits and not Putins kids or Trumps. How on earth is that an act of sanity ?

SoThatwasSummer · 29/08/2026 17:59

@BMW58 wow I envy your confidence!

A power plant was shut down for 1 week recently by the IRG.
Russia helps Iran against the USA and they do buisness together. Why is it such a leap to see Russia and the IRG which I believe could be wrong is allowed in the UK ? We know they are organising and funding boat stuff .
Is it such a leap ?

SoThatwasSummer · 29/08/2026 18:02
  • of course we have covert operators watching but watching people from airport and trains is one thing ,adding thousands arriving by boat is another ( and lorries ) how on earth do they keep track of so many people ? They just can't.

You are defining his Sanity by comparison to your Morals. Not the same thing at all.
He's a Cunt - but certainly not insane.
Your attitude is pretty arrogant.

SoThatwasSummer
Yes, but I don't understand why you seem to think we are helpless ninnies standing around doing fuck all in retaliation - or even instigation!

Why do you assume we are so utterly helpless?

SoThatwasSummer · 29/08/2026 18:16

Everything I've just said ? The IRG are running boat operations into the UK ?
A power plant was closed down for a week in the UK by the IRG.
How many people can our security forces reasonably keep tabs on ? They have thousands here already and thousands who come in on the sly ?
Russia and the IRG work hand in glove

What makes you think we are so safe ?w

Also we know the last defence secretary resigned over the spending (although that looks like it may have been fake now ) but still defence chiefs have said we were very weak and woefully unprepared for any form of conflict

Parky04 · 29/08/2026 18:16

Doesn't bother me at all. Death doesn't worry me. We all have to die at some point!

LilyBunch25 · 29/08/2026 18:29

Any Russian attack will be cyber, not bombing, to disrupt pur services and technical infrastructure. That's what they do and have already wormed their way into a lot of our social media, etc. You can make minor, calm preparation for cyber attacks if you're concerned, such as ensuring you have cash to hand, supplies for power or water cuts. Not much else you can do, other than talk over your anxiety with someone if its really affecting you.

Honestly why are you so naive? You don't think we are doing same - if not worse - elsewhere???

Why do you think we are so passive and toothless?
