Should I get a second job in order to afford Mounjaro?

Currently work 9am to 6.30pm during the week and weigh over 25 stone. I'm not eligible for weight loss medication on the NHS, but cannot afford Mounjaro or Wegovy privately. What second jobs could I apply for in order to pay for Mounjaro? Currently work in an office environment and lead a completely sedentary lifestyle. My weight is so high that I struggle to walk and have left hip/pelvic pain that gets worse when walking.

Hi OP, 👋
I haven't RTFT just your replies.
I'm sorry to hear your in pain with you hip/pelvis when walking, that is debilitating. 🫂

I would honestly go back to the GP and see about options and get a second opinion?
May I ask how tall you are?

If you are a certain BMI you may qualify for gastric band surgery?
Is this something you have considered?
Or do you solely want to focus on WLI? 🤔

Failing the GP, then I'm afraid it's down to budgeting for paying privately.
But if you have your sights set on monjaro, then I would honestly see which expenses you could cut down on to save for it. 💰

As another PP said, look at such things as subscriptions and possibly renewing cheaper contracts for phone, electric, gas etc, just to save a few extra pennies, as it all helps! I would be frugal and turn everything off when not at home (except the fridge as we trust the fridge) 😆

Maybe download a budgeting app, (I swear by FUDGET (the free version)to keep track of your monthly incomings/outgoings, and then you will have a realistic view of your finances and see where you need to cull. 🙏

I think getting an extra job may put more pressure on your body, but if you can tolerate it, then possibly a shift on a weekend as either a bar staff lady or a carer role maybe on the cards? Unless you can offer your services as an admin role on a weekend as a flexible work (like book keeper or accounts) iyswim? 😇

I hope you find the answers you seek and best of luck to you OP! 💕
@AppleJuiceAvid

Sorry, I just had to chuckle at "bar staff lady" 😁

@Winter2020 the golden dose has all but been phased out now, sadly.

There have been a few posts here about where to get Mounjaro jabs privately.

Any pointers on where to go MJ tablets privately? I saw on BBC news recently that the tablets can help against cravings towards food and alcohol alike.

You noted in your first paragraph what you went on to request in your second paragraph.

Oh 😱 I didn't know that.

I stopped using it in January, but was microdosing for quite a while after stopping.

So far my appetite for eating more than needed has not returned.

Yes a few pens still come with it but I haven't had one for a couple of months.

Good to hear your previous appetite hasn't returned. How long did you take to come off?

I peaked at 7.5mg (mg?) and then started to reduce my dose from the same 7.5 pens for a couple of months, then went to every ten days for a couple of months. I then just took it occasionally and then stopped. I guess it took about 4 months.

I've got a pen in reserve in case I feel I need a micro dose again. I never had a whiff of any side effects, so I guess I'm pretty blasé about strict rules.

Really interesting thanks @Isittimeformynapyet

If you are struggling to walk etc...then how would you manage to physically do another job? With all respect but you dont sound like a good prospect for an employer. Better off making a real effort to eat properly and get some exercise.

Btw. It worked out much cheaper to microdose from the higher dose pens

(disclaimer: you didn't hear this from me - I have zero medical qualifications 😉)

Is 'weird' code for - offering a solution you dont agree with?

No. Telling OP what they need rather than respecting what they ask is just downright rude.

I haven't had any pens without it yet (using an insulin syringe) but I do have a few spare pens and using them in use by date order so perhaps I will soon find out!

Your post suggests you don't think anyone less able bodied is employable! Wheelchair users work, people missing limbs work & all make 'good prospects' for more open minded employers.
You've somehow written the OP off as someone who would physically struggle to work and yet who should still just (eat less and) move more 😂

this might surprise you, but many of us manage to do jobs without being able to walk at all. 😮I mean granted i’m not going to be a dog walker or an olympian any time soon, but there are many jobs you can do just as easily sitting down.

I do have to laugh at ‘try diet and exercise’ though as if the OP hadn’t thought of that. I tried that method for decades on MJ i’ve lost half my body weight.

quite. I do my job just as well with one leg as i did with two. Mostly because I don’t type with my feet, and because my brain wasn’t stored in my leg so I still remember how to deliver speech therapy. 😆🤷‍♂️

LovelyLass5 · 29/08/2026 05:01

OP you may have PCOS (irregular periods, testosterone) and this might help with getting nhs Wegovy?

If you really do need to pay, yes take a small job, even if it’s more admin.

LovelyLass5 · 29/08/2026 05:02

Is it worth asking your existing company if you can have regular overtime?

Morepositivemum · 29/08/2026 05:33

Agree to seriously look at finances as opposed to a second job, you will be exhausted which isn’t going to help weight loss anyway. As someone who works late night and weekends life sucks if I’m honest, I’ve lost the ability to meet up with friends, go to events that are on etc etc etc

AppleJuiceAvid · 30/08/2026 21:00

Just did the eligibility questionnaire for Juniper and it said I'm not eligible. One of my parents has had thyroid cancer- could that be why?

OP posts:
Artefact23 · 30/08/2026 21:07

Possibly. Or it might be the aripiprazole. Can you ring Juniper and ask them?

SilenceInside · 30/08/2026 21:10

Agree, it might be the family history or the other medication that you’re on. I would contact them to ask for the specifics. There may well be other pharmacies that will take a more individual approach and consider you.

@Noodlecat don’t be so irresponsible as to suggest to the Op that she accesses prescription only medication illegally via black market suppliers. FGS.

You mean you buy something unknown, on the black market, from someone unknown who claims it's tirzepitide. And cross your fingers about the contents.

Don't do this OP. It's utter stupidity.
