Whatever anyone thinks of handguns, 5 year olds died due to gun shot injuries and some respect should be shown by all MPs whatever side they represent

as he sat during the talk smirking

So yet another "Farage bashing thread". Yawn.😴

I could show you dozens of clips of MPs "behaving badly", I'm not sure what this thread is trying to prove.?

Yep. He is a repulsive stain on the UK's political landscape. So damn right another thread bashing 🙄.

Given the damage he has caused the United Kingdom, there aren't nearly enough Farage bashing threads.

You can always post your own fangirl post, you know.

ETA. YANBU OP.

the OP said "if these people only had access to knives, far less people would die."

So, in their opinion it better they be stabbed rather than shot?
I'm not being obtuse, I'm using logic. You should try it sometime 🙄

I’m not sure if you’re being deliberately obtuse but saying far fewer people would die is clearly and obviously not the same as saying it’s better to be stabbed than shot. My Y5s could understand that 🤷‍♀️

Biggermommabear · 14/03/2026 14:57

PantaloonMad · 14/03/2026 14:54

Well obviously even would prefer no one was killed at all, are you being deliberately obtuse

you can kill a lot of people at once with a gun, from far away, so as a weapon they are far more dangerous than a knife. This isn’t rocket science

I think he is an unpleasant person and a potential danger to UK if ppl vote for him.. I can promise you, if this country gets him as PM, the whole bloody place will come down quicker than a tower of cards. Come back to me on here in a few years if that happens so's I can say I told you so.

Exactly this. Innocent children lost their lives, families were totally devastated, and somehow a ban on handguns is 'a knee jerk reaction?'

Who are these people who can think like this?

the people who support Farage think like this unfortunately.

@Berriesandcucumbers1 "How many mass shootings do they have in America, if these people only had access to knives, far less people would die."

So you'd prefer that people were stabbed not shot ? 😮Really?

I'd prefer that they didn't get injured/killed at all.

No, he isn't and no, it wasn't.

Sadly I doubt Farage's callous indifference to the victims and bereaved of Dunblane will really affect him

Callous indifference is basically his brand, so sadly you're right.

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/03/2026 14:47

There was a thread this week from the mother of a child killed in the Dunblane Massacre. Her post was heartbreaking, dignified and displayed great strength and grace.❤️

The comparison to the odious Farage couldn't be more striking.

Biggermommabear · 14/03/2026 13:26

The ban on handguns after the Dunblane tragedy was a "kneejerk reaction"

In 2014, as Ukip leader, he said the ban on handguns brought in after Dunblane was “ludicrous” and should be lifted, arguing handguns ought to be legalised and licensed again.
Restrictions on small arms put in place after the massacre were a “kneejerk” response, Farage said at the time.
Farage claimed there was “almost no link” between “sensible, decent people” keeping handguns under a licensing system and gun crime on the streets, and insisted repealing the ban would not send gun crime back to “Gunchester”‑era levels.
He summed up his position by saying: “We need a proper gun licensing system…and I think the ban on handguns is ludicrous.”

So now we have a knife crime epidemic.

What now, a ban on knives ?

The USA has a higher rate of stabbing deaths than the UK, despite their ludicrously permissive attitude to guns.

I’m glad he sat there smirking. I’m glad people can see what he is. The more he acts in this way the more his popularity will decline. He’s over confident and he’s now misjudging his own reactions he’s that sure of himself but people aren’t stupid.

That was my initial reaction. Then I remembered Trump mocking the disabled journalist. Around same time as the tape of his boasting about grabbing women ' by the pussy'. Back then I thought this behaviour would scupper his chances of election.

Sadly I doubt Farage's callous indifference to the victims and bereaved of Dunblane will really affect him - outside Scotland. His general incompetence, inconsistency and flip flops on the Iran war could hurt him though. Although in one sense it is all of a piece? The gun lobby has powerful US backing.

ArtAngel · 14/03/2026 14:40

What on earth is the purpose of hand guns? Why would anyone in this country need or expect one? Totally different to shot guns for shooting game, for example.

And hand guns in safe hands would very quickly end up in unsafe hands.

As do knives. but we need knives for various applications.

What we don't need are zombie knives - and these should be banned alongside handguns.

FYI, Farage Defenders, there is a mother on MN who lost her 5 year old at Dunblane. She posted this week.

He's right that the ban on hand guns was a knee jerk reaction and excessive - just politicians gesturing, as they do. But what's done is done, we are where we are and I don't see any point in going back now. I think current gun laws in the UK are about right, although the firearms licencing is getting ever more stringent, and now a bit OTT.

Edited

Not OTT enough. Currently only the applicant needs to have verified good MH etc when I think it should be ALL adults in the household where a gun is kept that are vetted

FifteenYearsInone · 14/03/2026 14:36

ilovesooty · 14/03/2026 14:30

It won't make any difference to his groupies.

Very true but it might make the politically homeless think twice.

@Biggermommabear Just in case you're not playing, but genuinely have trouble understanding things: everyone would prefer that no one get hurt. Knife crime needs to be eradicated

But guns are far more dangerous than knives and far less useful in everyday life.

@Biggermommabear That wasn't RBF, though, that was a definite smirk from Farage.

If Rachel Reeves has done it too, feel free start a separate thread about it? It's pretty obvious you're trying to deflect from the fact that he smirked when a victim of the Dunblane massacre was mentioned, and that he thinks the handgun ban brought in after Dunblane was ludricrous.

He is so influenced by American politics that he's struggling to remember what the British public believes in. Despite what he says, we're fine with the handgun ban. We don't want to be dragged into yet another war in the Middle East by the US. We don't want privatised healthcare. We don't want changes to our abortion law in favour of making it harder for woman to have abortions. He is so out of touch with the British public. That's what's ludicrous.

Biggermommabear · 14/03/2026 14:25

I mean knives at least have a normal functional purpose, how many people have a need for a gun in the home? Also you can kill an awful lot more people with a gun than a knife.
How many mass shootings do they have in America, if these people only had access to knives, far less people would die.

Biggermommabear · 14/03/2026 14:16

He's not smirking. He can't help what his face does.

Many females have a RBF and can't help it.

*"Resting bitch face"
