To consider applying for nursery when ttc?

As the title says. We are moving next year to a village with 2 nurseries both of which are completely booked until 2029 with 100 family waiting lists. This is no good for our DS who is going to be almost 2 next spring so we are having to find an alternative option which is a shame as he is probably going to have to go to school without being able to experience going to nursery.

We will consider ttc again in the future and am considering given the waiting lists in our village, telling them I’m pregnant when we start and giving a proposed start date of 12-15 months in the future.

If we are successful within 3-4 months as last time, I will just say the due dates have shifted slightly with scan etc and ask to shift the start date to my preferred date.

Cannot believe I’m even having to ask this but has anyone else done this, and were you even successful in getting a place?! I feel the nurseries will probably say they are fully booked even at this point…

Our nursery were the next people we told after immediate family when I was pregnant with baby 2. I registered DC1 with them at 22 weeks pregnant and 7 weeks pregnant with DC2. the nursery has been instrumental in our lives and I didn’t want to loose a place. DC2 left this year to go to school and I cried a lot. There’s a lot to be said for finding somewhere you’re happy with can afford can get to and be the right fit for your child

Newsenmum · 20/12/2025 19:42

I really dont think that’s a good idea. Just wait until you’re pregnant even if very early.

EmeraldPebble · 20/12/2025 19:40

Clearly a troll, although I’m not entirely sure what kind of a person is that dull and bored enough to troll mumsnet 😅 reported this thread to HQ.

This is disgusting.

Rosecoffeecup · 20/12/2025 19:33

Surely putting a date 12-15m in the future makes no sense unless you are wanting the baby to go there at less than 6 months? Is that the intention?

This poster has a very distinctive style. I absolutely can realise who it is.

Thank you for your contribution.

You said it was because of the style of the username.

Thank you for your very patronising contribution. Hope that helps.

TheIceBear · 20/12/2025 19:24

Surely this is a joke ? I mean how do you even know you will get pregnant that easily I had secondary infertility and it took 3 years and ivf to have a 2nd child despite being under 35 when ttc and it took 2 weeks of trying to conceive my first child. Regardless it’s really selfish and stupid.

Cinai · 20/12/2025 19:24

I put mine on the waiting list when was 3 months pregnant and the nurseries were ok with that, even though I didn’t know sex and name by then. They told be to put ‘tbc’ on the register and update them once the baby is here. A couple even said that I’m a little late already, where I live it’s usual to get on a waiting list before the baby is born.

That by itself doesn’t mean anything. When you sign up now it offers you three automatically generated usernames and they’re all made up of three unconnected words, one a colour. So you can’t ‘realise who it is.’ - this thread isn’t right though, I agree with that.

Three word username. One word a colour. The shock value of the posts really dwindles once you realise who it is.

How is a nursery fully booked 4 years in advance? I must be missing something here, but I can’t see how that can work.

If its right then other people must be reserving for as-yet hypothetical children - or am I missing something obvious? Its been a long day.

The OP sounds like they're lying tbh, their previous forum post (from the beginning of December) said 'I have a 14 month old DS and had been planning for him to start nursery 3 days per week in London in January as I have a new part time job which I’d been really looking forward to'. Nothing about moving to a village. That post was also said 'I can’t send my child to nursery costing a fortune for fear of him being sexually assaulted or worse' yet now they're saying 'a shame as he is probably going to have to go to school without being able to experience going to nursery'. They seem to be some kind of sick troll.

You’d need a name, m/f, and date of birth, so you couldn’t reserve a space for a non-existent child. Your conception may suggest a date but you may give birth early or late and in a different school year. Are you relaxed about the idea of places already being filled, on paper, with applications for children yet to be conceived? Doubt it.

Your casual quip about faking miscarriage says something really nasty about you OP. I hope you’re not one of the many women who has repeated losses even after one or more live births, but just get a grip, please.

We’d put the deposit down on our nursery when I was 5 months pregnant, so obviously they had none of the above info, just a due date. That due date was factual though, and I was actually pregnant.

OP the baby room cannot possibly be fully booked until 2029 unless they willingly take reservations from people planning to have children in 2 years in which case no need for your lies.

If they’re booked until 2029, everyone else must be doing the same

LavenderBlue19 · 20/12/2025 17:48

If they're both booked until 2029 people must be putting down unborn children, surely? That seems wildly unlikely, have you actually spoken to them?

Isn't there a nursery nearby but outside the village? If not, I would suggest moving to this village if you need childcare might be a bit daft.

NuffSaidSam · 20/12/2025 17:47

What you need to bear in mind is that there are other people who are as worried about childcare/nuts as you are, so there will be plenty of other people on that list that have signed up 'just in case'. In reality the list will move much more quickly than it looks like it will.

I would put your name down when you're pregnant, but not while you're TTC. Those extra few months won't make a substantial difference.

Your son will be fine without 'experiencing nursery', send him to a primary with a nursery/pre-school attached or a standalone pre-school and that will be more than enough experience for him.
