Why is everyone such a wet lettuce?

Hand-wringing over badges. Upset over name origins. The list goes on and on.

Are people just bored and want some attention online or something?

It's my own fault for reading threads on here, and having other social media I guess!

OP posts:

The fridge threads cheer me up as I'd always imagined everyone else having beautifully curated fridges full of sophisticated goodies...
Instead, everyone has everything crammed in higgledy piggledy and you can see that the last pack of butter, or whatever, would have to be shoved in and the door slammed quickly before it fell out...
Just like mine!

I am here for years, most days,, but I have never seen a ‘Christmas fridge’ thread.

Can anyone explain what this is? Is it photos of fridges packed with loads of food for Christmas? I don’t think I would like that at all. I hate fridges with too many things in them.

or are people decorating the fridges?

Literally threads of people posting pictures of the festive food in their fridges.

Generally peaceful enough although the 2020 one had plenty of miserable virtue signaling.

The inability to decline an invitation to an overseas child free wedding without lots of angst just baffles me.

I think DH and I probably project the "don't try and guilt trip me because it wouldn't work" too well.

brunettemic · 02/10/2025 22:24

Honestly the complete and utter inability of some people to deal with anything of even the most minor issues baffles me at times. So yes, I’m with you!

CoffeeCantata · 02/10/2025 22:20

It’s the posts which ask “Is this offensive?” Which depress me.

Where to start?? Aarrrggghhh…

’Offensive’ is a totally subjective concept. Only the OP in these threads can say whether something is offensive TO THEM. But they ask MN.

This is the funniest thing I've read for a while. My daughter even came into my room to find out what had happened to make me burst into laughter.

That comment is so true.

I laughed so much I spat out my wine

You can't even wish for snow on here without someone carrying on like you are personally manifesting a conga line of broken hips and wrists at A&E.

I saw a video yesterday of a woman in Florida losing her mind over two ducks mating in a pond in a public park. After yelling at the male duck "get off her!!" many times, and "is everyone just going to just stand there?", she waded into the water to physically separate the ducks. I'm not sure what's happening to many of us, but we don't seem to deal well with reality anymore. So many are losing the plot.

Edited

@EasternEcho I hope Florida lady doesn't Google duck willies. That is trauma!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 02/10/2025 20:48

Oh the being offended at being invited to things you don’t fancy /can’t afford.

just say “no thank you”. People aren’t being rude to invite you to things. You can say no without being annoyed about being asked in the first place.

Or worse... talking about their 'journeys'...
my weightless journey, my self acceptance journey, my sobriety journey.... fuck off and arrive.

😂😂

Onefortheroad25 · 02/10/2025 10:12

I hear you. A mother at ds’s school wrote to the board of management because her son didn’t start the other day for the school football team.

Upstartled · 02/10/2025 10:04

Yes, that's how it starts, it's just fridges at Christmas packed with festive food.

And then in swoop the guilt monkeys with their pointing finger to complain that such flagrant displays of conspicuous consumption in a cost of living crisis and climate emergency are enough to make them weep for all the sadness in the world. Merry Christmas. You're Welcome.

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 02/10/2025 09:48

I'm afraid that this morning I opened the curtains so badly that when I glanced back at the house as we left, it looks like someone raided a crack den. Oh well. I'm not going back.

Indeed you’re not- you don’t last as long as a lettuce.

But what about the transition to spring next year? AAARGH! I'm not prepared! Someone HELP!

I bet you haven't even got the Halloween decorations up yet, and I know there isn't an autumnal wreath on your door. Sort yourself out!

notacooldad · 01/10/2025 16:33

It's an improvement on last week's problem of someone's mum thinking they don't open their curtains "correctly"
Say what?? 😆 🤣
That is hilarious!

DH can't open the living room curtains properly to save his life. He somehow always leaves them uneven and dishevelled 😂

It takes a second to gently pull them straight. I've shown him loads of times but he just can't see it.

I saw a video yesterday about how to get mentally prepared for winter. Splitting out the weeks into zones and what needs to be done in those to get through mentally.

Or you could….go about your life as usual with a coat and hat and turn the lights on earlier.

I haven’t seen the video but I do my own version of this! I hate winter and have to break it up and pack it full with things to look forward to or it’s just too depressing, particularly January/February. Especially because where I live, winter is five fucking months at a minimum (Nov-March).

"I don't know what to say because I don't like confrontation"

"My neighbour asked if 7 of her family members could camp in our garden for a party for the weekend, and they are still there 5 weeks later . Can anyone help me word a way of asking her to gently suggest that they might leave? I don't like confrontation"
A: "could you say it is against your insurance?" "tell them you need to mow the grass and offer to pay for a hotel" "put a passive aggressive post on your neighbours Facebook page saying has anyone noticed any noise during the night in nearby gardens?". ANYTHING other than just ASK them to leave.

God, yes.

I so want an invitation to an expensive hen do and an overseas wedding so that I can say "No, it's too expensive".

All my friends and family are far too reasonable to pull a stunt like that though.

MrsPinkSky · 01/10/2025 23:12

I also despair at the amount of MNetters who don't seem to understand the difference between 'confrontation' and basic communication.

"Hi neighbour, do you think you could stop parking across my drive please, as it causes issues when I need to get in/out?"

That ^^ is basic communication.

"Oi you, why the fuck do you keep parking across my drive and blocking me in? Just stop it FFS!"

That ^^ is confrontation.

I don't think MN as a whole is representative of the population, as is perhaps natural with a critical mass of people who live their life glued to a website and SM while increasingly being unwilling to answer the door, speak with strangers, go to a social event, take public transport, go to the cinema alone, drive on a motorway, countenance fireworks on Nov 5th, socialise with anyone from extended family at Christmas etc etc.

I'm an outlier.

I answer the phone
I make phone calls to perfect strangers
I answer the door
I drive on all types of road
I don't hate shopping
I don't want all pubs to close down
I like my family
I like going out and meeting friends
I consider some of my workmates as friends and socialise with them
I didn't cry when DD went to university
I don't wear pyjamas all day
I don't find bras uncomfortable

And I LOVE summer

PollyBell · 01/10/2025 22:00

I am noticing an increasing the world needs to change, there is a long list of things that shouldn't be there because I don't want to change myself I just expect everything to change around me and these people raise children

I did have this thought when I read today about someone "panicking" about Christmas dinner.

Was this the lady hosting a relative for christmas lunch who could only have a liquid diet for medical reasons?

Amazing!

We all need some resilience.

I was just saying this to my DH the other day. We took a long train journey and could barely get a conversation going as we were constantly interrupted by announcements;

  • be careful in case the platform is wet
  • watch out for people moving about the platform
  • watch out for motorised platform buggies
  • please note the train doors will close 30 seconds before departure
  • don’t forget your belongings
  • place your bags carefully in the overhead racks
  • take care when moving about the train
  • don’t get up until the train comes to a complete stop
  • take care when stepping onto the platform
  • check you have everything with you before you leave the train
My exact words were “when did we become so pathetic that a grown adult cannot navigate a train journey without a pseudo-parent telling them what to do?”

Its pathetic!

Oh, you want to have a look at singletrackworld, it's where all wet lettuce menfolk go to dissolve in a puddle of their own self-pity.

I'm definitely going to need details.
Reddit transgender threads are all about the wet lettuce too, because they have to show how womanly and pathetic they are.
They never got the memo about women holding the world together.
