No payment for her 3 naans

We all got a curry, to cut a long story short(er).

4 friends in total, including me. Person who hasn’t paid is new to group. All happened last week.

I paid for the takeaway and said it’s fine, just everyone transfer me the money tomorrow when they get a chance.

We were going to share but this particular friend wanted her own. All fine. We still agreed to all go 4 ways, despite her not getting anything to share out, and ordering 3 naans!

Today is Monday and the meal took place last Friday. Still no payment. I reminded her on Saturday and she said she was so sorry, send bank details and she’d send it. So I did.

Still nothing. I messaged again this evening and she left me on read. Messaged friend whose friend she originally was… who said she’s now on holiday! I don’t even remember her mentioning that

We are suppose to be going for an 80s night next month. AIBU not to go if she goes? Told other friend and she said she probably just keeps forgetting

I wouldn’t mind but she asked to take the left over coke bottle and the last of the butter chicken. We all said yes because we were stuffed

Cheeky woman has an amazing figure to boot, so maybe I’m just jealous!

The joint WhatsApp group isn't a bad idea

Especially if you take the piss out of her about it

As an American, I am always surprised by these threads. It is absolutely standard, expected, no hestitation, no feelings hurt, to just say "separate checks, please" at the very start. Unless one is paying for the other's meal, and the person who wants to pay is the one to say, "one check, please. I'll take it". That's it, and no surprises, no issues.

I think it was a takeaway, so to avoid 3 separate delivery charges and waste time they thought they'd just get OP/one person to pay and then just transfer their share after.

coxesorangepippin · 22/09/2025 22:36

This woman ate two naan breads?

She deserves a medal just for that surely

CF Alert.

Even if she is on holiday. She will still have her phone and can transfer it.
It's a crap excuse. If she owes you £28.. that means you probably paid nearly £60 for the pleasure of her company.

Keep texting and preface texts with "I'm so embarrassed to keep asking you but could you take the time to pay the £28 you owe me."

She's relying on your embarrassment in asking so always bring that up! and also relying on you thinking I have to wait until she's back from holiday and then feeling like its not worth the trouble to chase. It really sounds like she's done this before and got away with it. Its not the money. Its the principle.

3 Naan girl has entered the chat.

🤣

Florenceandthemaniac · 22/09/2025 22:11

No need at all for you to skip the 80s night to avoid her - if she hasn't paid up by then you can ask her, in front of the group, to pay your share of the meal/drinks to cover the money she still owes you.

TheHillIsMine · 22/09/2025 19:52

Don't use that last sentence as a way to diminish your annoyance or try and make a joke. She's a taker.

This. Only women do this, I’m guilty of it, ‘must be self deprecating in case people think I’m unreasonable when actually I’ve had money basically stolen from me.’

GimmieABreakOr3 · 22/09/2025 20:12

So it’s only been 3 days?

I feel bad not returning someone money after a few hours! It's CF ish to know you owe someone money and ignore them after a few days. Especially in this economy. But then again I am an over thinker and worry about people's opinions so tend to avoid owing people money or pay them back ASAP without them having to remind me.

3 naans. How is it even possible for 1 person to eat all that?

She's probably still in a carb coma

TheAphrodite · 22/09/2025 21:42

🤣🤣 im cackling. 3 naans??? I wouldnt bother asking for the money anymore and take it as a lesson to not pay for any of her bits again, when you turn up to the event it will be even more embarrassing for her when she see's you

NameChange23456790 · 22/09/2025 21:36

Naan’s are bloody expensive nowadays!

Florally · 22/09/2025 21:34

3 naan bread to one person?? We go out as a group of 8 and order 2 to share 😂

I would probably just let it go for now and revel in the group jokes.

Next time you see her, nudge for the money.

Exactly!

Agapornis · 22/09/2025 21:29

Mmm I fancy a peshwari naan now

Odd that she agreed to split it 4 ways, maybe she's a wet lettuce who didn't want to speak up? 3 naans + leftovers of coke and butter chicken is what, £15ish?

Edit: sorry, £28?!? How fancy were her naans?! Did you order from Dishoom where the naan rolls are about £12 each?

Edited

I got the impression she ordered 3 naans, but also a curry to herself. And then took the extra butter chicken. So £28 is probably about right

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/09/2025 21:32

Make a WhatsApp group between the four of you and say, "Hi all, since Cheeky Fucker doesn't want to pay for her share of the takeaway, would Cheeky Fucker's Friend and Unfortunate Bystander mind transferring me an extra £9 each so I don't have to cover her costs on my own?"

What was the total split between you all?

I don’t share food. I wouldn’t rake leftovers though

Made me think of this

No payment for her 3 naans
CharlieKirkRIP · 22/09/2025 21:28

SunshineAndFizz · 22/09/2025 19:53

She ate 3 naans to herself?

I can’t imagine anyone eating three!

What a gannet!

Matsukaze · 22/09/2025 21:26

I'd have Naan of that if I were you.

Finteq · 22/09/2025 21:26

3 plain naan was £28

That's expensive

Bjorkdidit · 22/09/2025 21:26

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 22/09/2025 19:55

This seems familiar?

Yes, I seem to remember a thread from a few months ago about someone ordering more food than everyone else, including 3 naans and not paying.

But I've now found a use for the list of similar threads as it's the first one on the list

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5299878-she-ordered-a-curry-and-hasnt-paid-me

I wonder if ThreeNaanCF is working her way through getting her friends to pay for her big Indian feast.

Total was roughly £28 for hers alone

Fucking hell, I wouldn’t even cover a £28 takeaway for DH.

Go to the 80s night and march her to an ATM if you have to!
