My darling dog has just been diagnosed with heart disease, he's 12. I am just so sad as I thought we had years left together, he's the other half of me and I'm not sure I can even begin to imagine life without him. He comes to work with me, sleeps on my bed, and even sits next to me when I use the toilet. My shadow. My best friend. I'm still recovering from losing my Dad to cancer and now this. I know he's just a dog but he's my dog.

It’s heartbreaking. He’s not just a dog, he’s family.
We lost our 12 year old diabetic GSDxCollie last August, the tears are less now but I still find myself crying about him now and again. Just a few days ago was the most recent time actually. We now have a rescue puppy and while he’s brought a lot of joy back into our house and is loved, I still miss my old boy so very much. Like your boy, he was my shadow.

Tolkienwasright · 16/07/2025 22:02

Someone I loved very, very much died last week.

Beachtastic · 16/07/2025 22:01

I don't have any problems at all. I mean I do, but they pale into insignificance compared to the things PPs are dealing with here. My heart goes out to you. I count my blessings every day that my life runs on a fairly even keel and that I am happy. I will never take that privilege for granted, especially knowing how fragile it can be. Wishing you all the strength and energy you need to face your difficulties.

WhenIwasyoungersomuchyounger · 16/07/2025 21:49

@floooooofy That would be amazing thank you, what do you need to know? 🙏🏻

You are lovely and very generous. If you can verify the posters information and you have the funds, why not? But Social Services won't let anyone go without food or shelter so the OP should contact them first.

Have you double checked you can't get UC?

Thanks, but yeah I've checked a few times. Because my youngest is starting uni in September I'm not entitled to anything.

Littleone777 · 16/07/2025 21:19

I am so so sorry for your loss 😞

FurForksSake · 16/07/2025 21:17

@ASheepNamedBagelthat is a frustratingly small amount of recognition, but 30 minutes in a nice car is 30 mins of a podcast or audible and probably worthwhile! Congratulations!!

ASheepNamedBagel · 16/07/2025 21:13

It’s the professional reputation that holds more value than the pay increase.

I’m in the Civil Service, but also a qualified/Chartered professional, and as a young woman, this promotion represents a significant achievement - what has taken me just a few years took my (male) boss over two decades to reach.

All that, for a £5k bump and a new job title. 🤷🏽‍♀️

My partner is a senior civil servant, so money isn’t really a concern. Thankfully childcare is in hand. So ultimately, it comes down to whether I can be bothered with the 30 minute commute each way. I have a nice car, so it really shouldn’t be a problem.

Hello everyone
We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circs, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. Though, we strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

We've compiled some useful links posted by Mumsnetters into a financial issues webguide, so that people experiencing difficulties can find all the relevant information in one place.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon.

Im clinically depressed, I am waiting for a tailored therapy course that will likely start in September but I have to survive the summer holidays first when all I want to do is disappear and be alone.

Not minimising what you're going through because I have been on SSRI for 20 years with ups and downs. Is it possible that you need to adjust treatment? Sometimes I have to up to 4×75 mg venlafaxine whereas for years I've been on 2×75 mg.

Also wanted to add that exercice really helps. Even when I have 0 energy I force myself to swim or walk in the morning. It doesn't make me happy but it makes the rest of the day a bit easier to get through. Reading good books (subjective) is a really good way to go in to another universe/person.

There is no "magical solution" but try to find things that help you even a little bit. Without medication I wouldn't be here today so I hope you're open to that if the psychiatrist prescribes it. I was so ill that I could hardly move, stopped eating, couldn't read because my vision blurred. Was terrified of even sticking my nose outside the door and the SSRI was/is like a crutch to be able to live an almost "normal" life. I wish you all the best 💐

I can't leave the house as every time I try, I feel like I'm going to wet myself.

If anyone has been through this, please send ideas to break the cycle!

@wheniwasyoungersomuchyounger can you tell us more about this. I may be able to support

Asparagusandpotatoes · 16/07/2025 21:02

My lovely, supportive and socially/environmentally important job is going to see me penniless in old age. I don’t know what to do for the best-choose health and happiness now or make sacrifices now-big ones-to change to a career that might still end up doing me more harm than good. I’ve been going round in circles for years.

Also my boyfriend is a bit tricky to communicate with sometimes.

I know how bloody lucky I am. Sorry to everyone who’s got it so much harder x

Packing up my late mum's house as completion is in 2 weeks. Heartbreaking. I miss her so much. I feel so alone in the world without her.

Son with SEN not working, using cannabis and coming home late every day

Strikingitlucky · 16/07/2025 20:54

This is a 1st world problem compared to a lot of people. I hope life will become a little easier for you.
My biggest life problem is being a mature student, keeping on top of DD's activities, cleaning making sure DH is all okay, childcare all covered as we don't get much help from family (DH is an amazing dad and hubby).
Money is really tight some months, and i'm trying to do as many bank shifts as possible whilst having enough time to study and attending placement hours.
Im quite anxious about tomorrow's exam and im pondering about thinking is everything ive worked my absolute ass off for the last 2.5 years going to be worth it.
Everything feels a little heavy but I know deep down i'm in a privilaged position.
