Things that don’t bother you that seem a big deal to other people

Lighthearted really but I honestly can’t understand why anyone would feel precious about a friend forgetting their birthday. My very best friend has forgot a couple of times and it’s more funny than anything else. But other people seem up in arms about things like this.

Weddings… I couldn’t give a shit if someone couldn’t make my wedding or posted a photo too soon or whatever else. I’m amazed people care about this stuff.

Obviously there’s plenty I’m highly strung about though! 😅

When people are accidentally driving in the wrong lane, or they accidentally take the wrong exit on a roundabout and so they try to change lane last minute. If they do it safely what’s the big deal?! We are all human and make mistakes. Yet I have known drivers get INFURIATED about it and start badmouthing the driver of the car, or swearing, or giving them angry flares etc I don’t get it.

Or when drivers are merging into a one lane traffic queue , I.e road works appear, or a car has broken down and is blocking a lane, or it is just simply a case of two lanes merging into one, and the car is indicating to join the line of traffic and all the drivers of other cars are moaning about and it and saying, “I’m not bloody letting them in!!” And it is always accompanied with cars driving bumper to bumper to make sure another car can’t join the line of traffic.

It’s so much unnecessary road rage and anger. I just don’t get it.

Last minute lane changing is potentially dangerous if they are cutting someone up in the process and shows a lack of regard for other road users and a certain level of gormlessness (i.e. not paying attention). I can understand getting annoyed with people like that as they are responsible for most of the thousands of deaths and injuries on the roads every year. As far as merging is concerned, one massive problem in the UK is people are ignorant of zip merging. If I am on a motorway and a slip road is merging or there is a lane closure ahead, I create a gap in front of me to allow a vehicle to merge. Most people don't do this with the result that the main traffic flow is forced into stop-start-stop-start driving, making things ultimately worse for everyone. A classic example of the side effect of toxic individualism. Recently, even when I made a gap to allow vehicles to merge in front, several prats still barelled to the end of the slip road and then found they couldn't merge into the traffic (what a load of plonkers, as Del Boy would have said).

Only bothers me in the middle of the night when I’m half asleep and fall into the bowl🤣

Puffalicious · 11/05/2025 18:48

Lateness.

Now, on the other hand - earliness😡

Feetinthegrass · 11/05/2025 18:40

If people cancel on me, I just really don’t care 😄

LobeliaBaggins · 11/05/2025 18:38

School gate " clicks".

Rhaenys · 11/05/2025 18:18

People being ill. It happens. When people act like other people being ill is just an inconvenience to them, it makes me think less of them.

74Violette · 11/05/2025 14:26

Gender of my doctor, couldn't care if a male or female examined me.

Swearing, as long as not excessive.

I don't care who uses the toilet cubicle next to me

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 11/05/2025 09:48

Yep.

I was talking to my friend about this last week and I said I’ve never been in a toilet to my knowledge with a trans woman. I mean I probably have but my point is, genuine trans women you have difficultly telling they are trans. I have never seen a trans woman so obviously a man in a woman’s toilet and that I would have a problem with but where is this happening so frequently for their to be so much noise?

This is why most women are bothered about trans people in women's spaces.

“Why aren’t you getting changed”. Man asks female Darlington nurse this 3 times in female changeroom | Mumsnet

More details re the Darlington nurses. I don’t know what to say. This is outrageous. Just fucking outrageous. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl...

I agree. I don’t know why they the don’t complain about us leaving it down all the time.

Indeed. If we were to do a spray analysis - I don't recommend this - we would find that errant man pee is mostly found at the back of the seat and lady pee mostly at the front. Where we touch seat to lift / put down so I think we're a bit unreasonable to be precious about this.

That said everyone is lid down in this house on account of the spore containment. Although research has put a question mark over that now. Having a wee is a minefield. A minefield.

people cutting down trees, really bothers me but nobody else seems to mind.

Edited

You're the wrong way round for this thread, but I'm with you.

Obviously some trees are grown to be cut down. But leave the big old beautiful ones alone, and the woodland and forests (beyond maintenance). We need trees, they do so much for us.

mjf981 · 11/05/2025 01:39

Most things.
In general, I think we have become far more uptight and less tolerant as a society. In the end, none of the small stuff really matters. Shrug and move on. The mental gymnastics people get into over the smallest matters sounds absolutely exhausting.

GingersOwner26 · 11/05/2025 01:12

Which way the toilet roll goes on - who has time to care about something as trivial as that?

Masmavi · 11/05/2025 00:11

How much money other people earn, how much their cars, houses, extensions etc cost
If other people’s children get better grades than mine
How people parent - unless it affects my children (as in bullying) or unless they put their own children in danger
if a friend has something more expensive than me in a restaurant but we split the bill evenly - if they’re really a friend it will all even up over time
Kids laughing and having fun in public

People not answering their phones if it’s a number they don’t recognise- I don’t get that? What if it’s an emergency and a nurse or someone is calling to say your kids in hospital? Plus I’m freelance so most of my work comes from a phone call - if I don’t pick up someone else gets the job! Also gender reveals - what’s the bloody point? So glad I had my kids before all the baby showers and gender reveal nonsense became a thing.

These sound very much like things that DO bother you, rather than things that don’t.

It doesn't bother me when OH goes on a night out with friends. I actually encourage it as he barely goes out, so that might make a difference compared to others who's husband's are our every weekend 🤣

It also doesn't bother me when people swear, chew loudly or snore. It also doesn't bother me if people burp or fart when I eat, whereas my mum goes bonkers!

gannett · 10/05/2025 20:07

And I'm another one who doesn't believe in emotional affairs unless it involves actual declarations of love, or sexting. "Confiding" is what friends do to each other and is not dependent on genitalia.

gannett · 10/05/2025 20:05

Class and its signifiers. Keeping up with the Joneses. I don't care if you are affluent or if you look affluent or whatever. Stop fretting about whether you're middle class.

The male sex drive. Obviously I'm not referring to predators, harassers and rapists; I'm referring to the idea that someone I've gone on a couple of dates with "only wants one thing". I should hope so too. Maybe I "only want one thing" as well! And oh no, the absolute horror that your husband or partner wants to have sex with you.

Dogs anywhere. Though that's a lie because actually dogs are a big deal to me, I love seeing them and meeting them.

Gifts. Sometimes they hit, sometimes they miss, it's the nature of these things. They're not a litmus test of how much someone loves you. I always think that when someone is "devastated" by how their birthday/Mother's Day/Xmas has gone, it's a sign that the rest of their relationship is shit - putting so much importance on one day means the others are probably terrible.

Meeting my friends' friends. Every so often there's a horrified thread on here about a friend who has dared bring another friend along to the cafe and the dreaded dynamic has been changed.

Travelling solo or going to the theatre/ cinema on your own. I love it.

Me too! And eating out alone :) I don't get why people find that weird, but often they do!

Elsvieta · 10/05/2025 19:57

A lot of people seem to have a problem with doing various things alone, which always baffles me.

I should consider my curly hair a problem, and straighten it, apparently. Nope.

Emmz1510 · 10/05/2025 19:53

I don’t care about people wearing shoes in my house, something lots of people seem to feel mortally offended about. I suppose I might feel different if I had cream carpets or something!
