A doctor in Guernsey, Dr Ali Shokouh-Amiri, removed the ovaries of two women without consent. He was also accused of 100 counts of sexual misconduct against female patients, and found guilty of 24 of them.

He is now a consultant in a hospital in England, and the GMC have decided that he is fit to continue working there because he has reflected on his actions and is sorry.
Meanwhile his victims are described as having had their lives ruined, and are a shell of their former selves. One of those whose ovaries were removed without consent was 17 years old.

The sexual offences included touching a patient’s clitoris, hugging and kissing another patient on two occasions, and performing multiple intimate examinations without a chaperone present.

The Chief Executive of the health board in Guernsey says this doctor would not be allowed to practise there now if he applied for a job.

Last year The Independent found that almost 250 medics accused of rape and sexual assault had been allowed to continue practising. Wes Streeting was sufficiently concerned to have called a meeting with the chair of the GMC. Yet here we are again.

It seems criminally insane.

There's a thread about this in Chat which includes a link to a petition to sign, for those that are interested

I am utterly horrified.
does anyone know who/what regulates the GMC?

Dibdabble · 20/02/2025 23:43

Meanwhile nurses lose their pin for taking paracetamol on shift 🙄

The GMC has also ruled that doctors who change gender have all records of complaints or suspensions removed from their new records. The doctor effectively starts a new life, with their new name and new gender and a clean slate.

The full record of the MPTS decision about his fitness to practise is not yet available on the website (but worth watching this space https://www.mpts-uk.org/hearings-and-decisions/tribunal-hearings-and-decisions/dr-ali-shokouh-amiri-jan-25) but the entry for him on the GMC Register (https://www.gmc-uk.org/registrants/7117232) has a more muted description of the allegations against him than those described in the article, albeit still v much not someone I’d want doing anything gynae around me. I don’t think this is just the GMC. I think there is a big issue across the health regulators. The downplaying of sexual violence against women is commonplace. And these people are not “just” let loose as a common or garden medic, they’re specifically allowed to practise obstetrics and gynaecology. It’s as if the regulators have no concept of safeguarding.

At the very least there is some record on this man’s history in this case - not that that is of much comfort. But his colleagues will now be aware and can feel confident in raising any suspicions.

BUT if any man such as this were to decide to change gender, they would be issued with a new GMC number and his slate wiped clean. No one would be no way to link past allegations or suspensions. There would be no way of confirming his sex if he decided to insist he was female.

Yes, that's the exact situation with the trans doctor in the NHS Fife/Sanda Peggie tribunal. Apparently, the GMC changed the doctor's registration number when he decided to identify as a woman. There is nothing to link his old identity with his new one in the publicly facing records. Apparently this is standard practice in such cases.

As for the doctor in Guernsey, words fail me. In what universe can this be OK?

Odd how sexual assault and removing parts of women are associated in so many abusive male doctors. And it’s usually distinctively female parts, like breast or ovaries. What’s the abnormal psychology? Is it their desire to own and modify us? How can the GMC not see that men with that abusive psychology need to be kept far away from patients?

TLDR: what the fuck is wrong with these men?

ScreamingBeans · 20/02/2025 22:53

No, YANBU.

I cannot believe that this predator is allowed to practice.

I cannot understand how they expect women to trust this doctor to treat them.

It makes me wonder who on Earth sits on the GMC and why they are under the impression that this standard of behaviour is acceptable.

And also, why the hell isn't he in prison?

borntobequiet · 20/02/2025 22:49

Very concerning.

theteachesofleeches · 18/02/2025 11:32

Utterly horrifying and terrifying. The amount of sexual assault and rape in hospitals in the UK is covered up and we are lied to.
Women are treated as if we are not human, when we make every human on the planet. I am genuinely terrified of Drs and hospitals.
