To think that everyone faces storms in life, but eventually, the sun shines through?

I’ve been thinking a lot about life’s ups and downs and how, no matter how tough things get, there’s often a brighter time that follows. Do you believe that no matter what we go through, things eventually improve, and we find peace or happiness again? I’d love to hear others’ thoughts or experiences - do you feel like there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel?

Nope, nope, nope. Sorry but for some people it's one crisis and tragedy after another, their whole lives and through no fault of their own. Life is often cruel and unfair to the bitter end.

This 100%

Prescottdanni123 · 16/11/2024 17:44

I don't think it is a simple as a light at the end of the tunnel, but I've known people who have had quite sad lives and been through some truly horrendous things but gone on to find happiness. That is not to say that everything is rosy and they don't still have struggles though.

AgileGreenSeal · 16/11/2024 17:52

“Do you believe that no matter what we go through, things eventually improve, and we find peace or happiness again?”

No, I really don’t.

I understand you’re fostering a positive, optimistic outlook but honestly I think it’s unhelpful. There’s nothing more soul-destroying than misplaced hope.

Personally I’m going through an awfully traumatic situation which has no potential for a positive resolution. The only thing which will improve it now will be when I’m not here anymore. And as someone trusting in Christ for salvation I am glad that I know my future eternal home will be a place where …
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”… but until I reach that place I don’t expect any improvement.

niadainud · 16/11/2024 17:54

No, I don't believe that, nor do I believe that "everything happens for a reason".

YorkieIsDefinitelyForGirls · 16/11/2024 17:55

God what a patronising post

You’re absolutely right - some situations don’t necessarily remedy themselves, and I don’t mean to imply that every hardship has a perfect resolution. I was thinking more about how, over time, we often find ways to adapt, heal, or grow, even in the face of really tough circumstances. Things like grief, financial struggles, or health challenges may not completely go away, but many people find a way to move forward or find brighter moments eventually.

"Things like grief, financial struggles, or health challenges may not completely go away, but many people find a way to move forward or find brighter moments eventually."

I expect you are young OP?

As we age we get left to shoulder multiple, deeper and harder griefs - not just our grandparents but parents, life partners, best friends even children. Our health is only going one way and the services to make that comfortable are collapsing. Many people are in unrelenting financial hardship. Most of us will have to weather these storms (only from late middle age if we are lucky) - but when they come earlier or on top of a deficient / compromised childhoods where the foundations of emotional resiliance were not nurtured its a struggle always.

Martymcfly24 · 16/11/2024 18:02

Absolutely not.. there are millions all over the world living lives that will never improve. Lives we could not even imagine , those living in Gaza and Sudan are obviously the first that come to mind.

And we can all think of those closer to home that have been dealt a shitty hand that won't get better.

FloydWasACat · 16/11/2024 18:02

No, sorry. I am not a defeatist but life isn't always a film with a happy ending for everyone

The13thFairy · 16/11/2024 18:05

Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is a cancer ward.

EmpressaurusKitty · 16/11/2024 16:50

It’s always possible that the light at the end of the tunnel is a train.

🤣🤣🤣 This is exactly how my thought processes work!!!

PanicAttax · 16/11/2024 18:05

Unfortunately my life has lurched from one thing to another with deaths, rejections, loss, random terrible things happening and health issues. I'm mid 40s and thought I'd have everything calm by now after having a thought childhood and 20s. Sadly it just keeps coming and I've slowly turned from an overtly positive person to a wary one scared to put myself out there again.

ReadWithScepticism · 16/11/2024 18:06

How strange, on the part of the OP, to view all the possible tragedies that life can throw at you in terms of just the one inspirational quote, just the one fridge magnet.

Perhaps get a bigger fridge.

minmooch · 16/11/2024 18:06

I think it depends on the storms you face.

For sure everyone experiences ups and downs and some people deal with those better than others.

My son died aged 18 from cancer. This is a storm that has no light at the end of the tunnel.

PinkribbonBonnBonn · 16/11/2024 18:07

Not if you lose a child or you or a close loved one become severely disabled then no the sun dosent shine through , but for most of life's other ups and downs then yes it does .

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 16/11/2024 18:07

I guess there's ways hope but I don't think the millions of people killed in wars and genocides saw any light.

UsernameNameUser · 16/11/2024 18:07

No, you’re not being unreasonable but you are naive. For some, sure, the sun shines through, but for many, the sun might shine but never on them. It is what it is. I’m only 27, and been diagnosed with 4 chronic conditions, 2 of which could potentially get worse as I get older. It’s completely down to a dice roll on whether or not I’ll be considered disabled in 10 years, and the hopes and dreams I had for life have been rendered impossible. I’ve been traumatized to the point where I’ll never get over it. I survive, I do not thrive

But that’s ok. The sun will never shine on me, but I just use candles & warm lamplight to soften the darkness anyway

PinkribbonBonnBonn · 16/11/2024 18:08

@minmooch

I'm so sorry 😔. Life is so unfair often to the nicest of us all .

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/11/2024 18:08

No, very obviously that’s utter bollocks.

ThatKeenGuide · 16/11/2024 18:09

Insufferable? Surely not? There is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Agree with this and it's often the nicest undeserving people who go through it . I've seen some utter shits and bastards prosper and thrive .

minmooch · 16/11/2024 18:14

Some of you are insufferable.

You asked for people's thoughts and experiences. Did you expect everyone to agree with you?

AgileGreenSeal · 16/11/2024 18:15

ThatKeenGuide · 16/11/2024 18:09

Some of you are insufferable.

Why is that, OP?

TryingTheBestICan · 16/11/2024 18:16

Nope. My friend was mentally unwell due to domestic abuse, she had all the support in the world, suffered for years, then chose to end her life. Suicide rates are high. People still dying because NHS waiting lists are too long. 2 women a week murdered by their partners. People working themselves to the bone but still living a full life of poverty. Things don't always get better.

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 16/11/2024 18:16

ThatKeenGuide · 16/11/2024 18:09

Some of you are insufferable.

Really? Insufferable? That's your take on people who are ground down by unwavering unbearably hard experiences in life?

Maybe use some of that light at the end of the tunnel to shine on yourself and reflect on your empathy and attitude.
