I know, without having to open them, that I will be bored or irritated by threads about:

  • Parking (why do people find this interesting?)
  • Anything involving a diagram
  • Anything describing someone in the thread title as a narcissist
  • Anything about Brexit
  • Any thread in which someone describes themselves as “fuming” (or fumming)
  • Weddings or hen nights. Discussion about the etiquette of having children at weddings makes me want to put myself in front of a firing squad
  • Most of the trans related threads (though I think there are some important discussions)

I normally open them anyway 🤣. Anyone else?

I will never click on a thread title that includes the words 'shaking with rage' or 'thrown under a bus'

I do love the CF ones though. Some genuinely make me gasp!

"Shaking with rage" threads are great, especially when it turns out that if anything the other people involved should be furious with OP.

Summ3rFru1ts · 28/09/2024 10:09

Anything trans, women’s spaces or “women’s rights” which on MN is just code for men bashing with complete tunnel vision, lacks any discussion and is oh so tedious.Seems to infiltrate a lot of threads so it’s slim pickings as to what I do read now.

VAT on private schools

Anything to do with driving particularly on the motorway

Anything legal

Both topics attract an inordinate amount of bullshit.

I have a horrible fascination with the legal threads, simply to see how many batshit posts it will attract and just how batshit posters are prepared to be. Plus it annoys me how many people seem to think that claiming damages for negligence is somehow immoral, and I feel bound to test them a bit by asking whether they would seriously not claim if someone caused them life changing injuries through sheer negligence - strangely they never seem able to answer.

DeeCeeCherry · 27/09/2024 20:13

All the ones you mentioned OP.

& the cyclist vs motorist or vice versa. Boring and pointless, a load of arguing in circles

LavenderHaze19 · 27/09/2024 20:08

I avoid the ‘what’s your unpopular opinion’ threads. They’re like a dog whistle for closet racists, the incels on here pretending to be women and women struggling with internalised misogyny.

Suz8 · 27/09/2024 19:56

Not so much a particular topic (though it tends to be about neighbours or a shining example of a bloke not to procreate with) but sometimes even the most interesting topic or thread title disappoints with a stream of consciousness style narrative in a block of text with sporadic use of commas and zero concept of the art and of summarising. Eg "Then he did that so I turned around and said then he said........" A bit like a crapper version of Ulysses by Joyce for any fellow literature grads who were forced to read it.

My brain can only read the first few words and I have cognitive overload and the onset of a migraine so have to abandon the post.

Sethera · 27/09/2024 19:47

Anything that's over-the-top funny. I like a humorous thread but not those which are about bizarre situations or behaviour.

Thepeopleversuswork · 27/09/2024 19:31

@TheJones

Vat on private schools on here make me run a mile (and I say that’s as someone with kids in private schools - I talk to other private school parents regarding this who have skin in the game)

I totally agree and I also have a kid in private school. The wailing and gnashing of teeth among some of the most privileged people on the one hand and the spiteful, envious class war stereotypes on the other.

Thoroughly unedifying all around.

I have always thought if you put your kids in private school you have to live with the risk that it may get more expensive and just maintain a dignified silence on the point. Claiming to be part of some persecuted minority is pathetic. Yes it’s inconvenient. Thems the breaks.

Drip feeds, reverses, just curious and posting for a friend.

Just tell us all relevant facts and who you are in the scenario.

These have been far less frequent recently, but I avoid the threads rubbishing Americans.

I've never seen any!

JohnTheRevelator · 27/09/2024 19:07

Yes I agree with you on all those subjects! I just can't get excited about parking issues.

I think the majority of women outside of the secret world of MN don’t want men in their spaces, however they identify. And most aren’t fussed about transmen.

I love a parking thread.
Avoid baby names, step-parenting as the first wives/partners come out and the stepparent gets ripped to shreds, and anything to do with Katie Price.

It depends on what spaces you’re talking about. I couldn’t give a toss about who’s in the next cubicle to me in the loo but I do object to seeing a penis when I’m getting changed at the gym.

5128gap · 27/09/2024 18:44

The ones where people are asking whether one £800k property is better than another. I live in a cheap area and don't think my honest opinion of "How much???? I'd want 5 of them for that!!" would be helpful. The ones about jobs in finance, tax issues or inheritance.

Oh god, yes. Can't stand those stupid comments like "You could get a castle for that where I live". Makes me want to scream "But you live in the arse end of nowhere with no jobs and shit public transport"

LocalHobo · 27/09/2024 18:48

I am happy with the sex ones... if they are posted in the 'sex' category ! I got fed up of posting, "Please use the 'Sex' topic for this", so I no longer bother commenting.

I think we’re in the minority here but the rest of society is generally more accepting.

Trans threads because I’m in the minority in that I support trans rights so the threads really trigger me!

Any MIL where the main complaint seems to be the husband hasn't severed all contact with his family and likes and speaks to his mother.

Anyone where "vanity sizing" is mention in the OP. Always someone not hiding very well the fact they are angry as a hornet’s nest that there's some fatties out there that, obviously, think they are thin because they bought a size 12.

Any thread that involved two groups of differing opinions, both groups always claim they know "absolutely no one" who does/thinks differently to them. Be it shoes on/off, a "paid bar" at a wedding being the norm (in fact the even the definition of "paid bar" is something devide that poster have opposite opinions on).

Threads that are whining about "Americanism'. Aways by someone who doesn't seems to have spoken to anyone outside their own house.

Evidently I have read this threads, but now don't because the experience has never been a good one.

I can't do the ones where the OPs just a bit pathetic and the whole thing would be resolved if they had a sliver of a back bone. Its just to frustrating.

iwfja · 27/09/2024 18:16

Anything with poo and wee in the title. There are poo and wee trolls around and a lot of these threads are started by trolls but for some reason they are allowed to stand, even when reported.

"Man here" threads
