Really disappointed in this case outcome ☹️

Falifornia · 23/08/2024 15:25

DD is gay and has been cancelled by a couple of friends/acquaintances for daring to state that she would prefer not to date someone with a penis.

My daughter, the transphobe FFS. The world has indeed gone fucking mad . . .

(She is in the fortunate position of not needing the friendships of so called open minded people, but I absolutely acknowledge how painful the division is in the LGB community)

BringMeTea · 23/08/2024 15:24

Yup. Enraging and scary. Australia you are eating yourself.

It’s about as meaningful as recording star sign on your passport.

No, it's less meaningful than that.

It's about as meaningful as recording your star sign on your passport if you just randomly picked a star sign rather than being allocated one based on your date of birth.

LostGardens · 23/08/2024 15:22

When Tickle’s lawyer Georgina Costello KC cross examined Grover, she said:
“Even where a person who was assigned male at birth transitions to a woman by having surgery, hormones, gets rid of facial hair, undergoes facial reconstruction, grows their hair long, wears make up, wears female clothes, describes themselves as a woman, introduces themselves as a woman, uses female changing rooms, changes their birth certificate – you don’t accept that is a woman?”
“No”, Grover replied.

I’m so disturbed this is something an actual qualified lawyer is asking in an official capacity. In what way does any of those things make you a woman?

What a bloody joke. Really thought common sense would prevail on this one.

As did I, but it's not just common sense really, is it? It's physical reality. Sex and gender is being conflated by judges now, so I'd say common sense has pretty much left the building.

I remember when Australia allowed the first 'X' in the passport for a non-binary person back in 2011. I was listening to it on the local news thinking, what the fuck. How can someone not have a registered sex in their passport. Little did I know then.

Blatantly a ruling based on fear from the judge. He's in a no-win situation.

If you're afraid to make the right decision for fear of upsetting a bunch of lunatics then maybe being a judge isn't the right career choice for you.

And before anyone wants to shame any person on this thread for correctly sexing this male person who has now shown the world just how harmful such an ideological view can be when laws are formed where 'gender' is placed at the same priority to sex please understand that no one has to comply to your philosophical belief.

And we have recently been shown just how meaningless the language that some people demand is and how it IS based on philosophical belief. Why?

Because to be a person with a transgender identity is not based on having gender dysphoria. We have been told this now by professional academics as well as trans people themselves.

Therefore the only commonality for people with transgender identities is that their philosophical belief. Meaning no one needs to comply with another persons philosophical belief. No one. No matter how kind or respectful that person who is trying to shame you into complying tells you that it is to use the preferred language, it is someone who is demanding that you support their own philosophical belief.

You are totally free to choose to base your own language on using the sometimes centuries old established meanings of words and the established protocols of language that are based around sex. Not someone's identity.

And secondly, the situation with the male boxers has shown us that the word 'cis' is also meaningless and based on someone's philosophical belief..

In fact, because we were reminded that 'cis' means any person 'assigned' female at birth, this also includes those male people who have been incorrectly registered as female. And I am talking about the male people who have differences of sex development where their bodies are capable of processing the testosterone that their testes produce.

What this means is that there is now no words to describe a unique group of female people that reliably means just those female people, either pre or post puberty, who have bodies that are female sexed.

Cis is a meaningless word. Using preferred language around describing someone is based on someone else's demand to believe in their philosophical belief. It is purely up to you.

What you don't get to do, is to shame others for not supporting your belief if they do not choose to.

This.

"Preferred pronouns" implies that there is an element of choice, that someone can subjectively decide whether they are male or female.

You are pretending that there is no such thing as objective reality.

And in doing so, you are depriving the majority of people who do believe in objective reality of the vocabulary to clearly describe and discuss that objective reality.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks this is insane!!

Interesting that 17 of the 174 people who have voted in the AIBU vote so far think I AM being unreasonable….you are the people who are eroding women’s rights in front of our eyes!

I suspect that most of them are the new sort of woman as defined by Mr Gervais.

FrancescaContini · 23/08/2024 15:16

It’s unbelievable that birth certificates can be changed. What’s the point of a birth certificate if it can be altered at a later date?

Yes, that was the whole point of the site, that it was a safe space for women. Safe from men.

If that TW really believes they are a woman, they would know how it important that was for women.

Are there any similar apps for TW? Can you imagine if non-TW were to go in there and tell them what's what - or even worse, sit and watch as they discuss their feelings?

Actually that's not a bad idea.

All Women should invade the " safe spaces " of trans cos ...we "feel " non binary.

Gowlett · 23/08/2024 15:14

Would they also want periods, menopause. Birth, even.
Plus the rest of the 💩 that comes with being a woman.

SunQueen24 · 23/08/2024 15:14

For someone who wants to be recognised as a women they are behaving very much like a man - feeling entitled to women’s space!

I really don’t understand why some Professors of Biology (or whatever their professional titles would be in Australia), don’t sit down with judges, lawyers, politicians etc and explain, in simple biological terms, what SEX is. With diagrams. And how the reproductive system works! Explain how men and women are identified when they are born. Did these people not have biology lessons at school?

Then explain GENDER IDENTITY is…

Is it really that difficult?!

They can't explain what gender identity is in a way that makes any sense whatsoever. No one can. There's a reason for that.

Yes, Sall Grover peaked harder than anyone has ever peaked in the history of gender critical feminism.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 23/08/2024 15:10

It's a disappointing outcome but Sall Grover has said for ages that whatever the High Court decided she expected it to go to appeal. But it'll be a dark day for women if the Supreme Court agrees with the High Court that biological women should not be allowed to have anything just for themselves ever.

SidewaysOtter · 23/08/2024 15:09

Well, it’s not great news but it does put the issue of “what is a woman” back in the spotlight. Remember, Maya lost her first employment tribunal case - the one that considered whether gender critical views were Worthy Of Respect In A Democratic Society (WORIADS) - but won on appeal and established legal precedent.

So we double down, fund any appeal and ensure that any other cases in other jurisdiction get funded too. And the outrage (the poll here is currently 90/10 that this is the wrong decision) is heartening. I should imagine that the media coverage will be significant.

Sunlight is always good, even if it comes from behind a cloud.

It's so dangerous when a society tries to enshrine a lie into law. It's impossible to change sex. No matter how much you protest, argue or bully - sex is immutable. The fact that so many allegedly intelligent and powerful people have bought into this lie is terrifying - especially for the future of our daughters.

Yep. My (otherwise) very intelligent daughter told me there were over a hundred sexes. I had to remind her that we had to pay to get her GCSE Biology exam re-marked and the exam board refused to bump it up to a C.
