Please help me . Huge row with 11 year old.

His friend posted a meme of a black person with "bombastic side eye".

He wants to repost it to some silly comment.

I said it is wrong and not the right thing to do even if the person "bombastic side eye" posted it himself on tin tok.

Please give me your thoughts.

It’s just an expression! The race is completely irrelevant in this instance.

It’s racist. Black people don’t exist for the amusement of others.

Better go and tell all the black actors and comedians and musicians then...

on his WhatsApp group chats with School friends.

He's legally too young for WhatsApp and tik tok.

Tell him if he posts it you will ban him from the apps until he shows he is mature enough to be allowed to use them, then follow through by confiscating his phone and replacing it with a dumb phone.

What?

A meme featuring a black person isn’t necessarily racist. Some memes poke fun of the person featured. Most do not. There are used to convey a reaction. Not to make fun of the person in it.

The one in question isn’t making fun of the person in it, if it’s the one I am thinking of.

Are you suggesting only memes with white people should be allowed?

I dont really understand what the phrase means?

Isn't it when you look at someone in a suspicious way?
Giving someone the side eye.

Unless adding bombastic changes it.

Wasn't there a song called bombastic? Something about TV?

StSwithinsDay · 17/08/2024 13:40

He's 11. He shouldn't be on WhatsApp for starters.

Yes. That is my point. We live in an asian country and kids go to international school.

I grew up in Britain. I said although you do not think it is racist, it is in fact a. racist action, and this is not for entertainment. He said what if I posted a white person. I said you need to understand the history of black people, and you shouldn't post just because others do.

I don’t know what’s racist about it? I’ve seen that phrase applied to white people, adults, children….

The person in the meme posted it himself with that caption?

DadJoke · 17/08/2024 13:37

Depending on context, there is nothing racist about that meme. There are plenty of bombastic side eye memes from white peoples and cartoon characters, though.

What platform, not that it really matters. Delete it.
