That non-binary/3rd gender is not really a thing?

That you can have men that have long hair, high voices and non-muscular bodies, feminine eyes/face structures and like to wear pink t shirts,

and women that have short hair, deep voices and masculine face structures as well as loving to get muddy and weight lift, and they are still men and women and nothing else?

It seems to me that society puts such pressure on people to fit into a masculine/feminine "mould" that when someone does not do that, and they fit into the societal expectations of the opposite gender, that this messes with their mind and they believe that they should not really 'be' the gender that they truly are?
because they are not meeting expectations rather than biology somehow being 'wrong'?

Let's look at a hypothetical case study:

Sam, who is biologically male, has:

always loved pink/purple t shirts or hoodies despite teasing from peers that they are 'girl colours'

has a gentle, placid personality that other people may describe as 'wimpy' or 'effeminate'

prefers boy-band music to the rap/drill music often associated with boys

does not enjoy 'masculine' activities such as boxing, preferring more gentle actives such as swimming

has shoulder-length wavy hair because he both likes the look, and believes that most "male" hairstyles are very similar and aggressive looking with the shaved sideburns etc

When you consider all this, can you see how that could mess with his mind and make him feel that he is not truly 'masculine' simply because he is not behaving how society expects him to, ignoring the fact that none of this changes the fact that he has a penis and this simply makes him a male that has those perks, rather than needing to be "changed"?

This is how the non-binary phenomenon was invented, in my opinion. People being bullied out of being who they are and believing they should invent a make believe 'grey area' simply because their own personal interests don't fit the mould.

Change my mind?

OP posts:
magnoliablooms · 30/06/2024 15:21

Change my mind? are you genuinely open to someone changing your mind? I find most people have a set view one way or the other and it only changes when they research and look into it themselves rather than expecting random Internet users to do it.

Changingplace · 30/06/2024 15:23

Why would anyone want to change your mind and why would you think people would disagree? Are you new here?

quitefranklyabsurd · 30/06/2024 15:23

How people identify has absolutely no bearing on you and how you live your life.

you are clearly fixed in your views so no - I won’t attempt to change the mind of someone who is clearly not for turning.

DedicatedCakeEater · 30/06/2024 15:24

And? Even if that were the case, should that person remain bullied all their life to appease the likes of you and your sort?

DojaPhat · 30/06/2024 15:25

In the 70s and 80s did people really turn themselves inside out wondering how Grace Jones identifies, if she's a woman or man or something entirely else inbetween? Were there articles upon articles dissecting every fibre of her being in an attempt to categorise and label her? No.

jeaux90 · 30/06/2024 15:26

Non binary is a bloody nonsense.

Sex is binary there is nothing in between (even DSDs are exclusive to one sex or the other)

Being non conforming is wonderful and we don't need a label for it.

I don't understand this comment. No one should be bullied for not conforming entirely to gender stereotypes obviously. Does identifying as non binary stop them being bullied?

saveforthat · 30/06/2024 15:28

You make it sound like you are the first person to have thought of this theory. You are not. Do you ever read any threads on the feminist boards?

Iamtired123 · 30/06/2024 15:28

You're exactly right. These people used to be called androgynous but now they're apparently a whole new gender!

ilovesooty · 30/06/2024 15:28

Please make it stop.

What is the OP's "sort"?

ShowerOfShites · 30/06/2024 15:29

Change my mind?

If the hundreds of repetitive threads on this subject haven't changed your mind, what makes you think we'd bother trying?

PeachyKeane · 30/06/2024 15:29

Agree OP, it's all kinds of mixed up nonsense at the moment 🙄

You are born either male or female, you should be able to dress or present yourself how you wish. But let's not pretend that has any bearing on your biological sex.

Being gender non-conforming is perfectly fine, no one needs to be bullied for it, no one needs appeasing. We've had gender non-conforming people forever.

Conflating sex and gender stereotypes is unhealthy and damaging. How you present to the world and what sex you are are different things entirely.

CocoapuffPuff · 30/06/2024 15:29

It's a belief. Nothing more than that.

KreedKafer · 30/06/2024 15:30

You obviously have no intention of changing your mind and simply want to have a nasty argument. Which I’ve got no intention of providing you with.

I have a cousin a bit like you've described, he's softly spoken, slender not muscular, likes art and music, computer programming and volunteering for charities, his closest friends are female (so is his partner) or men similar in disposition to himself. We were talking recently and he said if I was younger people would tell me I'm non binary, luckily I was born at a time when a bloke could just be who he wanted.
My other cousin loves sports, rugby, boxing, football, drinking, pubs, nightclubs, he's loud, masculine and quite a presence in a room, he's also gay.
Both are just men. It's not complicated.

AIstolemylunch · 30/06/2024 15:33

I mean duh!

Of course its nonsense. There are 2 sexes and millions of different personalities and dress styles. NB is just the new 'I'm special because im not a typical girl/boy, im a rocker/mod/punk/goth/emo whatever'. Not conforming with gender stereotypes, as a woman, or a man, is fine, as is being gay or straight. Nobody cares these days and the NB think is just attention seeking presentation, look at me I've got a shaved head and loads of tattoos and weare jeans and t shirts every day, so I'm more special than that woman over there that likes to wear dresses and cardigans. We've all been there. I havent work a dress or skirt since i was a teenager, have shaved hair and work with a load of blokes, but im still a female and a woman.

FluffyDen · 30/06/2024 15:35

It's absolute nonsense. You're born either male or female.

lovelydaysinthesun · 30/06/2024 15:39

we are born male
or female.
There are stereotypes of what constitutes femininity and masculinity. Males can have traits considered feminine and females can have traits considered masculine, but they're not a third "gender" blend of
both. They're still either a male or a female human.

BobbyBiscuits · 30/06/2024 15:42

I find non binary a bit harder to understand than trans. But I do believe that trans people are adhering to a 'third/forth' gender. In that they can't meaningfully 'be' the opposite gender to their birth, but are different from both that gender and the one they wish to be.
So there's men and women, and then the 2 separate ones are transmen and transwomen. To be 'neither' gender almost seems to be saying you want to transcend the notion of being a human being? (Unless of course you're born with no genitals)

you are clearly fixed in your views so no - I won’t attempt to change the mind of someone who is clearly not for turning.

Yet if there were arguments that were valid and could be made you could make then to try and convince others - the 80+% of people who agree with the OP for example.

And actually I think most people who hold GC views have in fact already changed their minds.

Most of us used to be very supportive of the be kind end of the movement till we read more and understood more and realised the full impact on women and children's safe-guarding of a society where people are allowed by law to hide or lie about their biological sex. Then we changed our minds to support women's rights.

"no bearing on you" why are poeple still writing this rubbish. You must know damn well as part of gender ideology it does affect everyone. We are all affected by it.

Hoppinggreen · 30/06/2024 15:57

Gender is made up nonsense, people don't have a gender. The word is meaningless
Sex is what matters, people are 1 sex or another. How they dress, what they like and what they call themselves makes no difference to what sex they are.
And you can't "identify" as anything, you just are.

DedicatedCakeEater · 30/06/2024 15:24

Sorry, who’s bullying who?

Nobody should be bullied, not somebody who identifies as having a 3rd sex or non-binary identity, but also not OP or those who think it’s a load of old guff.
Not the devoutly religious and not those atheists for whom God is a load of old guff.
Not those who recognise Palestine as a state, not those who absolutely do not.

People must be able to say (politely) “I utterly reject your whole belief system and way of thinking on this.” without that being deliberately misconstrued as bullying/ hate/bigotry.
Or do you disagree?
