That’s it’s.

Me, it’s freeeeeezing! My hands & nose are cold

HelpMyBlackLabradorVotesReform · 19/10/2026 18:50

Not yet. But we are a "put on a jumper" type household.

What about your hands & noses?!

Bubbles90 · 19/10/2026 18:59

Nope not cold enough yet. Probably wont it on until late next month. Not wearing a coat yet either.

Redragtoabull · 19/10/2026 18:59

Absolutely not! For the 1st time since bill paying, I'm 51, I was £100 in debit over the summer! Eh? My new tariff, the cheapest I could get is £100pm more than previous, at the moment, so I couldn't give a rats arse about who's cold walking around in batty riders! Put some clothes on and fill up that hot water bottle as my heating ain't going on for the foreseeable. Love from The Grich xx

KathleenDarleenDayKnight · 19/10/2026 19:00

I tried to hold out till September (it's always on but thermostat turned way down over summer) but I cracked and honestly it cost so little when measured against the additional comfort.

Ilovemum · 19/10/2026 19:01

We had our yearly heating test yesterday- just to ensure it works.... But it will be a few weeks before it goes on properly...

Winniepoobear · 19/10/2026 19:02

I cant afford it. We have oil heating .. oil prices are extortionate here in Northern Ireland atm & ive run out.
Over £585 for 500 litres (which only lasts up to 8 weeks in the winter)
Blankets, hot water bottles and fan heaters ... bloody Trump!

HangingOver · 19/10/2026 19:04

Yep. Me and DDog were freezing

EveryoneUsingOutro · 19/10/2026 19:08

Far north of Scotland here. Popped it on in the evenings for an hour or so a couple of times end of Sept when it was chilly and wet. Then the weather went nice again and had some lovely sunny days so didn’t need it.

It’s been on for an hour or two most evenings over the last 10 days or so, but not every day.

Hubby put it on for an hour this morning for the first time today as he said it was bloody freezing - he is up about an hour before me.

To the PP who asked, ours is set to 20c.

Holeymoley28 · 19/10/2026 19:13

Our has started to come on. It’s thermostat controlled so just when it gets cold rather than a deadline I set.

Gertlushthatis · 19/10/2026 09:10

DC are complaining so I've brought out the brushed cotton bedding and hot water bottles. And we've got the heated throws out for working from home. Heating won't go on until we can see our breaths in the room.

How very miserable.

This has blown my mind. 21 degrees in the baby's room?!?!

  1. how does it know? Is it a smart thermostat or something?
  2. why so hot?

Genuinely curious

It blows MY mind that you wouldn’t think that little babies need to be kept warm. Confused

mamaof4losingmymind · 19/10/2026 19:21

Of course its October

Gertlushthatis · 19/10/2026 19:24

orthrywreeinvicedifthe · 19/10/2026 09:54

That must be utterly miserable.

They're not in the house long enough really. Once they're under the covers it's warm with hot water bottles and apart from that they're out at clubs or at school. They only have about 30 mins before bed and 20 mins to get up and out in the morning.

Modernschooling · 19/10/2026 19:25

it wasn’t until this thread. My thermostat was on 5 degrees. Turned it to 16 this morning and on it came.
I’ve turned it down as I don’t want to use it until I really need it.

How cold is too cold for you? I'd be freezing at 16!

Our outside temp hasn't dipped to below that yet.

Loopylambs · 19/10/2026 19:35

Last two evenings just for an hour.

Nottodaybob · 19/10/2026 19:35

I've had it on for an hour in the day and an hour I the evening since Saturday when the temps went from 16 on Thursday to 7 on Saturday. Not got it on a schedule yet as not quite cold enough. I can't be arsed with being cold though.

We had our first frost this morning.

fishingtime · 19/10/2026 19:37

Absolutely. Back to defrosting the car as well. Heating on all day at work.

What about weekends? Surely half an hour isn’t long enough to bathe and have tea?

moggiek · 19/10/2026 19:41

Yes. It’s been off and on for weeks (west of Scotland).

Same here. None of us have had coats out yet. Shorts were on at the weekend. Windows are open most of the day.
