That’s it’s.

Never had it off - Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Its currently 6C. Will freeze over night and I had to defrost my car this morning.

Thecows · 18/10/2026 20:00

Yes, also don't get all the competition, I'm so hard that I'm still in a t shirt and sliders in 3 degrees lark ffs

Seawolves · 18/10/2026 20:00

Mine kicks in when the room temperature drops below 22°, it came on a couple of times in September but not yet this month.

MudandMoet · 18/10/2026 19:59

The wind today has been bloody freezing. I had to double jacket up today for feeding (farmers) so I’m not coming back in to a cold house. The heating is most definitely on and has been for a few weeks. We’re not as hardcore as most it seems!

GOODCAT · 18/10/2026 19:56

No but in the South of England. Getting closer to it being cold enough though. I was cold getting out of bed this morning and currently on sofa with a blanket, but warm enough like that at the moment.

Gloriousgardener11 · 18/10/2026 19:55

Not yet, I still remember the bloody heatwaves of this summer so I’m enjoying the chill for now!

Marmite27 · 18/10/2026 19:49

No, but we have lit the log burner a few times.

MyAzureZebra · 18/10/2026 19:48

Nope, holding out until November at the earliest.

CherryKerry · 18/10/2026 17:43

Yeah, for the last 2 months!

Yep same

BoarBrush · 18/10/2026 19:46

Mines been on for weeks, southern Scotland has been shite for weeks. The frost was so hard this morning that it's killed all my dahlias and begonias overnight, as in yesterday they were all shades of pinks/purples/reds/orange and today all look brown and wilted like I've taken a flamethrower to them. Have just 4 plants left in both front and back garden.

Anabolicanna · 18/10/2026 19:39

First time today, just for an hour.

cartagenagina · 18/10/2026 19:39

Everyone I know!

HoppityBun · 18/10/2026 19:38

Mine, I’m a bit ashamed about that.

On the other hand, it only comes on between about 6:30 am and 8:30 am and then in the evening between about 5:30 pm and 9 pm. And even then only when the temperature goes low about 16 C. It’s on now, which surprises me a bit.

hotmumshit · 18/10/2026 19:38

Yep

So happy 😄

Where do you live that you don't have your heating on yet?
It was frosty here this morning in central Scotland, so yes, we have our heating on.

DingDongBerrily · 18/10/2026 19:32

Our log burner has been lit every evening for the past couple of weeks. No central heating on yet, so the only really warm room is the living room.
It's currently 24° in the living room! But only 15° in the rest of the house.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 18/10/2026 19:32

My DD and I both have asthma triggered by cold damp air, so yeah the heating has been on.

We’ve had some lovely sunny October days which have been because of no cloud cover over night resulting in lower temps, so the heating has clicked on before we get up. Equally we’ve had some cloudy damp days so I have put the heating on manually to take the damp out of the air inside.

I don’t have a tumble drier so as the weather becomes more autumnal / wintery I dry clothes on the indoor airers with a dehumidifier.

What a blessing it must be to not have health conditions affected by cold damp air, and to be able to afford to run a tumble drier for 6-8 months of the year.

This competitive heating thing gets on my nerves
My husband is unwell and gets cold due to poor circulation
We have no choice
We go without to keep him warm as it's a priority

What is competitive about it? Maybe if the price of keeping warm was not so high, many people would have their heating on sooner, rather than later. You should not have to be going without, in order to keep your unwell husband, from getting worse, due to the cost of heating.

Anna20MFG · 18/10/2026 19:28

What temp do people set their thermostats to, for the heating to click on automatically? I see a range here from 18 to 21. I have no idea what's normal! I appreciate it varies a lot from person to person, but I am cold all the time unless it's a heatwave so hoping to get an idea of what most people consider a good balance of cost and comfort.

I've had it on for 45 mins in the mornings a few times, and twice now in the evening

IwanttoWFH · 18/10/2026 19:27

Not yet. I’m trying to wait until 1st November! (But I will put it on if I get really cold). I am utilising the heated blanket on the sofa though. And I’ve had the electric blanket on the bed on for 20 mins or so before I go to sleep.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/10/2026 19:22

Its not cold enough in somerset although Im using the sofa blanket.
My old cat aged 16 starts making blanket nests when its cold and she hasnt started yet.

bearbeatcheesesticks · 18/10/2026 19:19

Mine's never turned "off" - it comes on depending on the thermostat. It kicked in this morning for the first time this autumn.

Sconefuddled · 18/10/2026 19:18

Nope will last til November - it’s about £650 (all in for gas and electricity) a month to keep mine warmish for 8hours a day so I leave it late and just heat the evenings. Enough to keep damp at bay and warm us up. Bloody victorians and their lack of insulation!

AllaMova · 18/10/2026 19:15

We cracked today. One of our cats buried himself under the duvet this morning, so he must have been feeling the chill.
