That’s it’s.

The living room faces North with no sun exposure whatsoever today I put the heating on for a few hours. It’s been turned off now and it’s comfortable. If it’s cold I’ll turn it on.

Modernschooling · 18/10/2026 21:07

Not yet but the house feels damper this week. Luckily it’s been mostly sunny so can still dry the clothes outside

One week until half term and then I’m away for a week.
Once it’s on then it’s on until April. The later i start the better.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 18/10/2026 20:53

I do, cracked last night and its on to 18. House was colder than outside!

Cleo65 · 18/10/2026 20:50

Nope, cosy under my electric throw blanket. Marvellous invention/investment.

What? Since the middle of August??

Not had full heating on yet, but put the gas fire on last night. Mmmm.

Edited

Yes, it's pretty cold getting up at 6am in Scotland so heating tends to ping on once we get into the end of August/ start of September. Thermostat usually knocks it off again if there is any heat in the sun later in the day.

We've already had a really hard frost every morning this week so its pretty much on all day now 😱.

Frenzi · 18/10/2026 20:47

Ours is on all year round! Thermostat set at 18 degrees. Its clicked on a few times over the last couple of weeks

dontcookwontcook · 18/10/2026 20:46

Just got home and had to put the heating on. It’s freezing!! Not sure if it’s been so warm the last few months that I don’t even know what autumn whether is, or whether it is genuinely super cold

NimbleTaupeTiger · 18/10/2026 20:43

We've had it on for very short periods. We're in the south east and our garden is still in full bloom.

PickledMuffin · 18/10/2026 20:43

yep!

Nomorewino · 18/10/2026 20:42

No but I have had the fire lit in the evenings.

IzzyLeng · 18/10/2026 20:41

Came on yesterday. Was freezing. Manchester level of northern

Hoork · 18/10/2026 20:41

no But heated blankets and fire

Heyhelga · 18/10/2026 20:39

Nooooooo. Still have the windows open during the day here. We're in the South. Feels mild here still. Even had a shirt sunny day here during the week. Can get a bit nippy at night but winter duvets are back on so fine for the time being with no heating.

TofuTuesday · 18/10/2026 20:31

Cracked today.

CrazyCatMam · 18/10/2026 20:28

I'm in NE Scotland. Mine's on all year. It clicks on / off depending on the thermostat. I set it to 15 in the summer months and then 17 in Autumn. If I feel chilly I crank it up to 20. It's an old house but it's been fully insulated and keeps the heat. It feels stuffy if it's too warm. We pay by monthly direct debit to spread the cost out through the year.

Currently in a cold, draughty holiday cottage with stone floors and even with the thermostat at 22 it's freezing!

Worldwide2 · 18/10/2026 20:22

Me! Have had it on in the mornings and evenings just to give it a blast. Bloody lovely.

tarheelbaby · 18/10/2026 20:12

Started late last week? Min temp set to 16C and it's been jolly chilly in the mornings.
Now struggling with antique boiler which doesn't want to run ...

It's not about the date on the calendar for me although I know for many Brits it is.
(Absolute landmark moment when DFil offered to put on the heating one year in May for my DDs ...)

2catsandhappy · 18/10/2026 20:10

Not yet. Got my winter dressing gown on.

72Kit · 18/10/2026 20:09

If you're putting it on for the first time this week, it's worth bleeding the radiators and testing the carbon monoxide alarm while you're at it. And with the clocks going back next weekend, find the torches now, before you're hunting for them in the dark during the first storm power cut.

ajandjjmum · 18/10/2026 20:07

DH finally gave in to my nagging today!

Anna20MFG · 18/10/2026 19:28

What temp do people set their thermostats to, for the heating to click on automatically? I see a range here from 18 to 21. I have no idea what's normal! I appreciate it varies a lot from person to person, but I am cold all the time unless it's a heatwave so hoping to get an idea of what most people consider a good balance of cost and comfort.

I've had it on for 45 mins in the mornings a few times, and twice now in the evening

I have mine at 17 when I’m on the sofa with pyjamas and blankets, or cleaning or whatever where I get warm. If I’m showering and getting ready to go out I put it up to 19.

TheFairyCaravan · 18/10/2026 20:05

Not yet. I am almost finished crocheting a big, thick Aran blanket for DDIL for Christmas so I’ve been under that quite a bit. I think the heating will be going on this week looking at the weather forecast, tbh.

TeenLifeMum · 18/10/2026 20:05

No. In the south west and I’m not even wearing a coat on dog walks. I do have my heated blanket on right now and have a few times in the evening but I’m only wearing light pjs.

AnewlifeintheCountry · 18/10/2026 20:04

Not yet but we have been lighting the log burner some evenings over the past week or so. It’s roaring away now and it’s lovely.

RandomUsernameHere · 18/10/2026 20:02

Not yet, it’s a bit chilly at the moment looks like it’s going to get warmer next week.
