That’s it’s.

That must be utterly miserable.

They're not in the house long enough really. Once they're under the covers it's warm with hot water bottles and apart from that they're out at clubs or at school. They only have about 30 mins before bed and 20 mins to get up and out in the morning.

mamaof4losingmymind · 19/10/2026 19:21

Of course its October

This has blown my mind. 21 degrees in the baby's room?!?!

  1. how does it know? Is it a smart thermostat or something?
  2. why so hot?

Genuinely curious

It blows MY mind that you wouldn’t think that little babies need to be kept warm. Confused

DC are complaining so I've brought out the brushed cotton bedding and hot water bottles. And we've got the heated throws out for working from home. Heating won't go on until we can see our breaths in the room.

How very miserable.

Holeymoley28 · 19/10/2026 19:13

Our has started to come on. It’s thermostat controlled so just when it gets cold rather than a deadline I set.

EveryoneUsingOutro · 19/10/2026 19:08

Far north of Scotland here. Popped it on in the evenings for an hour or so a couple of times end of Sept when it was chilly and wet. Then the weather went nice again and had some lovely sunny days so didn’t need it.

It’s been on for an hour or two most evenings over the last 10 days or so, but not every day.

Hubby put it on for an hour this morning for the first time today as he said it was bloody freezing - he is up about an hour before me.

To the PP who asked, ours is set to 20c.

HangingOver · 19/10/2026 19:04

Yep. Me and DDog were freezing

Winniepoobear · 19/10/2026 19:02

I cant afford it. We have oil heating .. oil prices are extortionate here in Northern Ireland atm & ive run out.
Over £585 for 500 litres (which only lasts up to 8 weeks in the winter)
Blankets, hot water bottles and fan heaters ... bloody Trump!

Ilovemum · 19/10/2026 19:01

We had our yearly heating test yesterday- just to ensure it works.... But it will be a few weeks before it goes on properly...

KathleenDarleenDayKnight · 19/10/2026 19:00

I tried to hold out till September (it's always on but thermostat turned way down over summer) but I cracked and honestly it cost so little when measured against the additional comfort.

Redragtoabull · 19/10/2026 18:59

Absolutely not! For the 1st time since bill paying, I'm 51, I was £100 in debit over the summer! Eh? My new tariff, the cheapest I could get is £100pm more than previous, at the moment, so I couldn't give a rats arse about who's cold walking around in batty riders! Put some clothes on and fill up that hot water bottle as my heating ain't going on for the foreseeable. Love from The Grich xx

Bubbles90 · 19/10/2026 18:59

Nope not cold enough yet. Probably wont it on until late next month. Not wearing a coat yet either.

HelpMyBlackLabradorVotesReform · 19/10/2026 18:50

Not yet. But we are a "put on a jumper" type household.

What about your hands & noses?!

DoubleBusy2026 · 19/10/2026 18:55

Me, it’s freeeeeezing! My hands & nose are cold

Madewithtea · 19/10/2026 18:54

Not yet but it won’t be long before I insist it goes on. DH is still wearing shorts inside but I’m in hoodies, joggers & socks, I feel the cold more than him though & the winter duvet is on my bed already.

Thermostat comes on if it goes below 21degrees in babies room which it has done on and off for a couple of weeks now

Vargas · 19/10/2026 18:41

Just turned the CH on yesterday, and 'tested' the woodburner last night! Lush.

yoursweetpotatoesarebland · 19/10/2026 18:40

Not yet - today is the first day I’ve considered it. We have heated throws back on for the sofas since the weekend though!

hoping to hang it out until November…

lindyloo57 · 19/10/2026 18:39

We had the heated blanket on a few evenings last week, had the heating on Sunday for a couple of hours and 1 hour this late afternoon.

Neuronimo · 19/10/2026 18:33

Me just two half hour boosts today and yesterday.

Slugfest · 19/10/2026 18:33

The winter sheets will be going on at the end of the week - brushed cotton, lush.

Slugfest · 19/10/2026 18:30

Just put it on. I'd normally use my heated blanket first but the cat is lying on it atm and obviously can't be disturbed.

Partickthistle · 19/10/2026 18:28

I don't get why people ask this question. Ours is on all year round. We, like most people I'd have thought, have a thermostat so if the temperature drops below 20 degrees (for us) it comes on automatically. Obviously over the summer it will rarely switch on. Who enjoys being cold in their own home, no matter what the season?

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 19/10/2026 18:27

Yes, I go off temp not time of year. I know there are many who can't or are worried about affordability but heating is something I've always prioritised and DH and I are on the same page. We've been on holiday once in 5 years, my car is a 2008 plate, my phone is 6 years old, but if we're cold heating goes on. I have respiratory conditions that are worse if I get cold and I'm pregnant and have a toddler.
