I saw this post elsewhere today.

I heard Simon Mayo playing Coming Up by Wings today. Not heard it for years, my dad used to think he was singing Tommy Yogurt

Other gems included ....

Macy Gray - I wear goggles when you are not here

DJ Luck & MC Neat - Ali with the mittens on, Ali with the mittens on (repeat several times)

The Wanted - She can't sing, she can't dance, but who cares, she walks like my nanna

Duran Duran Girls on Film, all I hear is 'Go Home Bill'. Even now when I know it's not the lyrics, all I hear is them singing go home Bill!

He's dancing with the chicken's legs
( chick in slacks)

Only you can set me free
Coz I’m guilty,
Guilty as a cocoa bean

The first five times our fitness instructor played Pink Pony Club, I heard it as Pit Pony Club. I had visions of all the retired pit ponies having a lovely time, like the shire horses when they used to have two weeks' holiday from their work and gallop around in a field.

“My love has got no money, he's got his trombolese”

I always thought it was "he's got a strong release"

BalloonSlayer · 06/08/2026 21:22

I know it can't be this but in Dead Ringer for Love, when he sings "You've got the kind of legs that do more than walk," I can never catch her reply but to me it sounds like "I don't have to listen to this wankerish talk."

Frankly I reckon that whatever the real lyric is, it probably isn't as good as mine.

Big fan of the later exchange:
"You've got the kind of lips that do more than drink"
"You've got the kind of mind that does less than think!"

When my daughter was little she sang the lyrics to Jai Ho as

Jai Ho … you are the reason that I breathe
Jai Ho … you are the reason that I call you Steve

edit: it has and always will be a trombolese

cuckoolodger · 06/08/2026 21:36

When I was little I thought boy George was singing about a chameleon that kept escaping from his cage. Come on come on come on chameleon. You come and go, you come and go. I even bared my entire school disco dance routine around this premise and was mortally wounded when my top junior teacher burst my bubble .

“Hera shera on deposit
mixing up some fruits for you!”

which of course is nothing to do with a she-wolf in the closet…

Catsansan · 06/08/2026 21:47

Starbucks lovers?

MPforTitipu · 06/08/2026 21:48

Bob Marley, Is this Love. 'we'll be together, with a roof rack over our heads'

And Abba, Chiquitita, 'now I see you've broken a finger,'

Edit, missed a bit

That club classic Nightcrawlers one 'Push the Feeling on'

Apparently the lyrics were:
'Oh 'n their lives again
Oh 'n their lives will pull us...'

I genuinely thought it was
'I lives again
To lie in a pool of sperm'

Early 00's Dance wasn't really about the words.

Thank you, I have never been able to work out those lyrics! 😆

"You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, 4 hundred children had a crap in the field"

Still not sure if that was misheard or if we made it up as naughty children to annoy/embarrass the parents while we fell about laughing 😆

Hahah I was going to post this one!

Apparently DH heard it as 'a croc in the field' for years...

GlensHutchisonsRobertsonsStephek · 06/08/2026 22:05

I was going to say 'take a load off fanny' by The Band. Turns out the lyrics ARE fanny, not Annie.

Guess I'm the fanny then.

I thought the Bon Marley one was the lyric!

My DS sings You Could Be Mine lyric “your cocaine tongue” as “your cooking’s on”, like Axel Rose would be making a nice casserole! He’s a teen and I haven’t corrected him yet!

"Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche under the runner in the night".

The actual lyrics don't make any more sense anyway.
