I saw this post elsewhere today.

I heard Simon Mayo playing Coming Up by Wings today. Not heard it for years, my dad used to think he was singing Tommy Yogurt

Other gems included ....

Macy Gray - I wear goggles when you are not here

DJ Luck & MC Neat - Ali with the mittens on, Ali with the mittens on (repeat several times)

The Wanted - She can't sing, she can't dance, but who cares, she walks like my nanna

Stan Ridgeway’s ‘Camouflage’ contains the line ‘But before he went, he said Semper Fi’… I wasn’t familiar with the phrase at the time and used to hear it as ‘send for pie’.

And for ages I thought the line ‘Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup’ in System of a Down’s ‘Chop Suey’ was ‘Have yourself a bagel with a shakeup’ (although in my defence, the character is getting up in the morning, so it sort of fits… 😆)

In You're so vain - 'you're with some underworld spy or the wife of a postman' (should be wife of a close friend)

My mate laughed at me when I used to say " I dont go home when the party ends" it actually said " i dont know anybody else" by black box many years ago. Another one from a man I was talking to online. He put a status on FB saying "you've got to have a day on me, if you wanna be with me" i actually corrected him in the comment telling him it was wrong and it actually says " you've got to have J,O,B if you wanna be with me" felt like such a bitch but he was so pervy.

Because I didn't know as a child that they pronounce apricot differently in the US, I always used to think the guy's scarf in that song was 'African'.

In that song I always thought the singer was 'blind' because I misheard the word 'fly' in the line 'a fly girl like me'.

And when I was little I used to think Barry White was singing 'I'm just a black man who's lost his way' (and the offending word in this case actually was 'blind'!)

Jojo was a man who thought he was a woman, but he knew it couldn't last"

I used to think he was singing that too!

FFSItsTooHot · 06/08/2026 00:40

You Sexy Thing by Hot Chocolate. Bearing in mind I was only about 10 or 11 at the time,I thought he was singing 'I believe in Malcolm',not 'I believe in miracles'.

I can never seem to stop myself from singing it as 'Miracoils' these days, the Silentnight hippo has a lot to answer for! 😅

"It only takes a miracle" - Only takes a minute by Take That.

My lover’s got no mornings, he’s got his trombalines

and

A scabby bitch (it’s gotta be me)

madameimadam · 06/08/2026 00:56

He’s got a fast car,
Is it fast enough so we can fly away?
We gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way

So I remember when we were driving, driving in your car
Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us

And your arms and legs wrapped round my shoulders..

I always wondered how someone could drive with someone’s arms and legs wrapped round their shoulders like a weird pencil hugging toy..

UhOhRatPoo · 06/08/2026 01:02

There’s a song that goes

“I’ll take my whisky neat, my coffee black and my bed at three”. Used to be on the radio a lot at school run time.

My DS aged 8 sang it as “I’ll take my whisk and leave”

I love the image of a temperamental chef flouncing out of the kitchen!

I thought it was that too! But just checked. I thought it was going to be “thought he LOVED a woman” .

But turns out it was “thought he was a loner”…who knew?!

My DD aged about 4 ‘The bears of sesame’ instead of the ‘bear necessities’. Still makes me smile.

Cantyouseethishorselovesme · 06/08/2026 07:36

Another Abba one from when my son was younger:

'You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seven teeth.'

Kryten1958 · 06/08/2026 08:12

Driving in the car and playing The Eagles “Take it easy” on the car audio. We were all singing along but my two young DS on the back seat were singing.

“Well, I'm running down the road
Trying to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover
Who’s just like my mother
She's so hard to find”

The Three Degrees – My Simple Heart sounds exactly like they're singing My Pimple Hurts

Making love in a femidom. Apparently it's were giving live in a family dose. I'm not convinced.

And 'my lovers got no money, he's got his trombloese'

I don't know what a trombloese is but I will never be convinced it's some nonsense about strong beliefs

Don’t forget they stapled the vicar in the same song….

i always thought Madonna was singing ‘Last night I dreamt of lumbago…’

Potatoelephant · 06/08/2026 09:12

My mum always thought bat out of hell was “like a battery hen”

we still call it that

CosiFannyTutte · 06/08/2026 09:16

Knights in white satin.
Reverend Blue Jeans.

This year, to semi-frontiers, you gave it to someone special. ('Last Christmas').

Also: He's got his trombolese.

CuriousKangaroo · 06/08/2026 09:20

“My lover’s got no money, he’s got his chubby knees”

and

”I have to praise you like a shoe”
