Is there a single person in the entire world who believes Trump had anything to do with that, or even knew it was being promulgated with his name under it? "I" this and that, phooey. He wouldn't be able to read all the way through it without getting a nosebleed.

That he wrote it no. My money is he was being told about the costings for his projects. He said "phone someone and get the price down, give them anything they want to get the cost down". And bobs yer uncle.

In a few weeks he will be boasting about how his ballroom has the best 10 million year rated granite.

You mean he isn't a big enough prick as it is ?

And I relent slightly because that was actually funny.

Adding: True story - one of my siblings was posted to a far flung embassy and when they had dignitaries visit, people used to jockey to be part of the team. When Paul visited, they were basically having to offer significant bribes and threats to get people to host. Let's say, there was some quiet sympathy for his neighbour at the time.

Isn't that the stuff that Australia has banned because the fabricators all die of a terrible lung disease from the silica?

https://www.crb-gmbh.com/en/newspost/banned-quartz-composite-countertops-australia?srsltid=AfmBOoqC9tDo97RsXYUiYcymI3xwuMwCg-sUTFI9XhOoJ6VS0sSs1Xfu

Is that why the proclamation says it's ok to import from Australia: they've banned making it, so they won't be exporting it?

walllaw · 01/08/2026 13:57

The reflecting pool thing is an absolute debacle for them. Apparently the dismissal is full of inter-governmental blame and finger pointing. I'd love to see how Fox News covers this (although not willing to subject myself to it to find out).

Australia bans quartz composite countertops

In this article, we will look at what makes quartz composite so dangerous and whether a ban in Germany is also to be expected.

Here is a really strange one. A Trump proclamation about.... QUARTZ SURFACE PRODUCTS.

What on earth. Why is POTUS doing this. And well, a bit of reading up on it, and it turns out the US folk dealing with this stuff want controls on imports. Protectionism. Fair enough. But why POTUS I wondered.

Ahh. Engineered rock. And guess who is likely the biggest buyer of decorative engineered rock in the US these days ? He wants his stuff cheap, so give the companies that deal with it what they want.

Is it a different Obamacare that Trump and co are dismantling ? As a result of their democratic election ?

Thank God that issue doesn't exist in the UK. No waiting lists, no staffing issues, no failures of communication.

Pointing out failures in others in response to ones cited in your own is a great way to come to a dead stop in progress, isn't it ? I could easily cite a load of foul ups with the NHS. However I could also cite the time I broke down in floods when a relative awoke after what seemed to me to be the ministering of angels.

I don't think that exactly covers the 250 years you cited.

I'm not going to bother responding to the rest because, honestly, @SerendipityJane, I've been amused and interested by your posts for a long time, but not recently. I know you say it as you see it, but of late, I've found your takes un-nuanced, unamusing and bordering on bigoted, so I'll just stay off them and leave you to it.

If only someone, somewhere had warned him.

However a much better story that we could sell to Donald is that Hegseth and Rubio and Musk all conspired to hide the problems in attaching Iran with the express purpose of getting him removed from office as otherwise he would be the greatest POTUS ever. That could be ratings gold, so easy to spread.

Then grab some popcorn.

Heather Cox Richardson worth reading today. It’s a long post so I’ll just drop the first paragraph here:

“Courtney Kube, Monica Alba, Peter Nicholas, Gordon Lubold, Katherine Doyle, and Andrea Mitchell of NBC News reported Wednesday that President Donald J. Trump is “exasperated” that the Iran war is dragging on and that his advisors can’t agree what to do next. Reportedly, he erupted last week during a meeting with his national security team, shouting expletives at the officials in the room. One of Trump’s allies told the reporters that Trump had not expected the war to last as long as it has. “There was not a real strategy for how long or what they should do to get to the endpoint.... He did not intend this to be a long, drawn-out war,” the person said.”

The Cabinet meeting sounded absolutely batshit from what I've read about it. Can you even begin to imagine what it must be like for the likes of Rubio, Hegseth, whoever.... when they have absolutely no idea what he is going to come out with next. To be on edge like that is hilarious!

He joked that he is not YET a target for the International Criminal Court - thanks for the great idea Trumpy!!

Spandauer · 01/08/2026 09:21

Catching up again. Thanks for the summaries @RedTagAlan

As for the Reflecting Pool admission - journos should ask about this - again and again and we should all sue for emotional distress! Actually as the pool presumably belongs to "the people" maybe Trump can be charged with criminal damage and wasting the courts time?

The cabinet meeting was just another mandatory love-in for his flunkys to shower him with praise 🤮

But interestingly it's come at the end/beginning of the month when he regularly disappears from public view and is (allegedly) when he gets his next intravenous course of bat poo (or whatever). Camp David has full medical facilities and he has nothing scheduled except 2 days of executive time at nearby Bedminster supposedly for golfing.

So currently this week he's back tracked on Gaza, Patriot missile agreement with Ukraine, reflecting pool, BBC... anything else?

@RedTagAlan

Thank you soooo much for reminding me of the Lumberjack Song! My sons loved Python (as I did back in when I was a teen) and I have wonderful memories of driving up to the Mountains for camping singing that song over and over in the car. Interspersed with "Always Look on the Bright Side" and various Al Yankovic parodies.

It's now my ear worm but one I gladly accept

If you're not too squeamish, there was a MP reference on our news the other day: "I'm pretty confident this is outside my chest wall. 'Tis but a flesh wound."

I know someone has mentioned this but how embarrassing for the Trump administration when Mr Orange insisted time and time again that he had footage of the 350 foot slash by vandals.
Even awful Jeanime Pirro has had to eat her words big time.

Those accused need a big apology preferably in person from Trump.himself who called all these people vandals and scum

All the accused should sue for wrongful arrest or something. It's the US, their attorneys can find a way.

Infantino has admitted failure in his bid to deliver dosh to Trump's camp
Fifa president admits defeat on plan to sell World Cup — and now faces fight for his future after resignation of senior adviser and accusations of ‘deception’ by chief operating officer

Having listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place,” Infantino said in a statement.
“Our purpose has always been — and will always be — to unite and improve. As a result, this proposal will not proceed.
“Moving forward, my intent is to bring all interested parties back together in the coming days and weeks in the spirit of shared interest in our game, and with the objective to continue growing football everywhere, and particularly in those countries that mostly need our support.”
Europe’s seismic decision on Thursday to boycott Fifa tournaments was the beginning of the end. Infantino tried to see that off, insisting in the early hours of Friday that the vote on selling a stake of Fifa tournaments to private investors would go ahead.

We have a corker of a Trumpianisms festival today. Because Trump did a Camp David Cabinet meet... and his remarks are here. A full and entire 57 minutes and 1 second worth of transcript. And near every paragraph has something that could be the downfall of any normal mere mortal politician.

Remarks: Donald Trump Holds a Cabinet Meeting at Camp David - July 31, 2026 — Trump Archive (trump-archive.com)

Waaaayyyy too much for a post. So I am gonna cherry pick some out :-)

"DONALD TRUMP 00:00:00-00:00:22 (22 SEC)
You all set? Thank you very much. This is something very unique."

Sigh... Donald... go look up unique in your MAGA dictionary. It is an absolute adjective. It is binary in fact. Something is unique, or it's not. Next best bit :

"DONALD TRUMP 00:56:59-00:57:00 (1 SEC)
Thank you.
AIDE 00:57:00-00:57:01 (1 SEC)
Thank you, guys. Thank you, guys."

Ha ha. Honestly, there is just so much in here.

" It's Camp David, and this room is a very, very special room. I don't believe the press has ever come anywhere near it, but we are the party of transparency and we believe in transparency."

I checked. And I found photos of Biden in it. Yes, the press have been in it.

"And again, this is a cabinet meeting. It's open. We have done a lot of open cabinet meetings and I feel it works out very well."

They turn out as well as can be expected from you anyway.

"Everybody can ask certain questions. We'll let you talk about certain things. "

Can we have a list of what we are allowed to talk about?

"I'll go one after another. Yeah, there's a couple of stiffs, but that's OK."

You will go one after another ? And you got stiffs in there ? Oh hello Mitch.

"We're building more factories and plants in this country than we've ever built before."

It's infested with them so it is.

"And we're going to be, at some point, we'll be leaving this position, and we're going to leave this country..."

What......

".... in very, very good shape, better shape than it's ever been."

Ha. I was almost tempted to do a dishonest cherry pick. But nice to hear him say he will leave, even if he uses the Royal "we".

"The last administration created the worst inflation in 48 years, the most dangerous and insecure border in history, and exploding trade deficits like we have never seen before, rampant crime, men in women sports, transgender mutilization of your children and chaos and bedlam all over the world."

Biden and his chaos and bedlam eh. Tut-tut. But check out the very next words he says. No editing, this is Gods honest what he said immediately after the above.

"Other than that, they did quite a good job. "

I expect the good bits he done are all those bits you have claimed as yours. Same as Arthur claimed the Roman roads as his. Or somebody probably did. Bloody Romans. What have they ever .....

"And for the last 15 months, the report just came out again, we've had no people coming in through our southern border, zero. And it's almost hard to say because you'd say, is that even possible?"

I would say zero is impossible yes. Unless you are throwing imports and exports over your wall. And the world did just see the world cup. where people did need to cross the border.

"Today, I just want to mention that we heard in Minnesota there was a cyberattack and they blame it on Iran. I don't think so. I think -- I blame it on Minnesota because they're grossly incompetent. "

There is that "they". Donald, when people say "they", what they usually mean is you. You are POTUS Donald. YOU. It is YOU who is THEY.

"They like to say, oh, it's Iran. Iran should be so lucky. "

I should be so lucky
lucky, lucky, lucky
I should be so lucky in love

"Iran's got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota."

I should coco.

"This month it was announced that inflation is dropping at the fastest rate in more than six years. Walmart, Sam's Club, Giant Eagle and others are slashing prices by hundreds of grocery stores."

Grocery stores are currency now ? How much for a dozen eggs ? Two Walmarts and a WH Smith ?

"The stock market has set 73 all-time record highs since the election. That means all-time record highs 73 days out of a very short period of time."

Thank you for the clarification. But you need to clarify what your clarification means.

"And the typical 401(k) is up by more than $30,000. And when you think of that, if you add another $1,000 to it, it will be -- we set the record in the last administration, a record still standing. "

Yes Donald, dazzle us with your arithmetic, if we add $1000 to $30000 we get... oh, you gave up.

Honestly. I challenge anyone to find a single sentence that is both true and makes sense. This post got 4 minutes in.

Actually, he should demand a televised apology from Trump

I saw something that Trumps lawyers in Florida are now trying to get the financial loss claim against the BBC dropped/changed. They want to keep the damage to reputation though.

There is some legal thing where they need to ask the judge to change the original papers that they filed. And this of course is because the Judge said Trump Inc need to hand over all financial records to the BBC.

To me this just screams "top down system". Trump makes a demand and everyone needs to follow no matter what. He knew about disclosure, his lawyers knew about it... almost everyone knows, but the dictator demanded it be done anyway.
