Fabulous new interview by KJK.

It sounds like a desperate state of affairs at the Tavistock and has been for a while.

He mentions how much the trans charities influence them.

This will be interesting to listen too. Particularly in light of his paper.

Apropos of nothing, L Ron Hubbard and the Scientologists were extremely anti-psychiatry:

Thanks for posting @NeurotrashWarrior.

A really good listen, esp about psychosis / learning how to accept your body & disappointments and what lashing out if you're misgendered is really about. Marcus Evans seems to be a very empathic and straight forward psychoanalyst.

It appears to have been taken down or something - I'm getting "this video is unavailable on this device". If this is YouTube censorship then we need to start rioting in the streets

It seemed to load for me.

Great video. I was particularly struck by the explanation that there is no evidence base for medical intervention for kids. So, why are we doing this?

This will be the medical scandal of the decade once people start paying attention to what is happening. How many kids thrown under the bus before then?

An excellent and informative interview. Posie's a good interviewer - allowed him to speak at length about his expertise while asking informed questions.
And so powerful to hear from an insider about the complete lack of research and ethics in the treatment of these children alongside the insidious political pressure from lobby groups.

Very interesting, thanks for posting.

I think this is probably the best video on the topic of young people/trans I have seen. Really calm, measured, I learnt a lot about teen development in general, not just around gender.

Would recommend it for all parents of teens. It made me really appreciate what a challenging time of life the teenage years are, that feeling uncomfortable is normal, parents cannot take away all their children's pain, your body and mind are interlinked, the importance of giving things time, learning to accept elements of yourself you are unhappy with (advice I could be taking on myself too!)

Marcus came across as very measured, full of common sense, and if you find Posie a little full on (which she can be!) she was there more to facilitate the interview and give Marcus an opportunity to speak.

Really good interview. Posie asks excellent questions to get Marcus explaining the basics & unfold the story. Attempting to stop puberty, what an ill thought out thing to do. Q. What benefits are there to doing that? A. We don't know the evidence is very poor.

We are up against institutional capture by corporate interests and criminally children's bodies are the collateral damage. This scandal has to stop.

I think it was a very good video too, and like pp say gives you such a lot of understanding about how the mind works in general and in teens.

I am listening again as there is so much to take in.

That happened to me a couple of times with that video and then third time lucky.

ThePurported Mon 27-Jul-20 16:35:04

It didn't work for me either, I'll try again tonight.

Melroses Mon 27-Jul-20 17:22:20

I haven't had a problem - looked at it quickly last night, and watched it twice this afternoon.

The first time I was mesmerised by an advert for some sort of an ear screw, and could not get it to work, so went back to click the link, and skipped the advert asap.

Very interesting. Marcus Evans' testimony is particularly valuable because it comes directly from his time at GIDS, and is informed by his background in mental health.

Shedbuilder Mon 27-Jul-20 23:31:06

Wow. What a breath of fresh air. My GC friends and I have been saying pretty much what Malcolm says for years, despite not having a single psychology qualification between us.

He says so much more, and in absolutely clear-cut terms, than I was expecting. Quite certain that gender dysphoria is a mental illness. Very strong on the fact that people who decide to define themselves and expect the external world to go along with it are behaving in a way that in other circumstances would be defined as psychotic (Henry VIII example).

How on earths is GIDS still going when there are people of Malcolm's status working in the area who don't believe a word of it?

I just keep coming back to the fact that so much of this is based in homophobia. How far have we really come in tackling homophobia when the NHS and GIDS have supported the Iranian solution to homosexuality? (In Iran homosexuality is fine as long as one of the couple has gender reassignment surgery to turn them into a man or a woman).

Shedbuilder Mon 27-Jul-20 23:32:06

Sorry, Marcus, not Malcolm.

Just bumping this in case anyone missed it at the weekend. Such an important interview. Marcus Evans is so honest and rational.

I'm placemarking to watch later. Thanks for posting

Problems viewing could be down to your wifi or YouTube settings. Parental controls can accidentally filter all kinds of stuff out.

NeurotrashWarrior Wed 29-Jul-20 17:58:41

It is excellent.

It's all shocking; the fact his wife had made a complaint 15 years ago made me sit up.

It is an excellent interview. He talks so much sense and it’s quite unbelievable that it’s not treated like any other body dysphoria.

undergroundoverit Wed 29-Jul-20 18:26:37

I forgot to say thanks for sharing it, Neurotrash. I've forwarded it on to friends, family, even my son's girlfriend (who is 'disappointed' with J K Rowling sad).

Marcus talks about the new cohort of transitioners - the many young girls who seem drawn to this. One of my sons is in year 8, and two of the girls from his class at primary (whom we've known since nursery school days) are now identifying as boys. Not sure how the school will be dealing with it come September, but I can't help but think there must be a huge element of social influence (if not contagion). Two out of 30 girls in the school year seems high.
