Some good comments underneath that article.

Redkeyboard · 11/10/2018 20:35

I’ve read that report. What the professionals are saying is really concerning.

“We have seen people losing their jobs, organisations losing funding for even suggesting that some services are provided on the basis of sex, not gender identity.”

How are the exemptions supposed to be used in that environment?

Redkeyboard · 11/10/2018 20:40

Also this comment from a professional about the ‘re education’ suggestions in the Stonewall report:

“To tell women in a refuge who have been subject to reality- distorting techniques by an abuser that they cannot call a man a man but must call him a woman is horrific abuse.

“For that to happen within the confines of a refuge and for women to be publicly called together in a group by so-called experts to be shamed and ‘re-educated’ is totalitarian, sinister and totally undermines everything a women-onlyrefuge should be about. Shame on anyone who subjects women survivors to this.”

Another truly excellent piece. Thanks James, for reporting tirelessly on this issue. Thanks to the Spectator for providing a platform for these concerns.

Put more bluntly, no one is scared about trans people here. They’re scared about rapists. Some rapists say they’re trans. Get over it.

Potplant2 · 11/10/2018 20:44

James writes so clearly and so well.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 11/10/2018 20:55

Interesting too that James Kirkup referred to Karen White as Karen White throughout so as to avoid having to pick a pronoun. I’ve not noticed him do that before (but cba checking to see what he usually does.)

JellySlice · 11/10/2018 21:00

He used female pronouns in his previous article about KW.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 11/10/2018 21:03

Wine James, in lieu of the extremely large drink that I would like to buy you.

TimeLady · 11/10/2018 21:06

I'd like to think his refusal to use pronouns was a nod to Mumsnet; solidarity with the hoops we have to jump through here

boatyardblues · 11/10/2018 21:23

I noticed the laboured use of KW’s full name and, with James being so succinct usually, concluded he was making a point. Another good article James, though depressing.

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2018 21:28

James if you ever come to a MN meet up you won't have to buy a drink all nightWineGin

FlippinFumin · 11/10/2018 21:39

What a fantastic article. Thank you lovely James. Star

Janie143 · 11/10/2018 21:40

James is wonderful

BettyFloop · 11/10/2018 21:48

Thank you JK - another excellent piece Wine

CallingDannyBoy · 11/10/2018 21:58

Thank you JK

Poppyred85 · 11/10/2018 22:24

I’ve just shared that on my Facebook page. It’s the first thing I’ve shared that’s gender critical. I’ve held back for so long for fear of what doxxing could do to my career. But I can’t keep quiet anymore. James if you read this, thanks for all your articles and for giving me a calm, well reasoned article to share.

Redkeyboard · 11/10/2018 22:26

Well done Poppy.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/10/2018 23:01

I love that he’s basically co-opted Stonewall’s catchphrase here-

Put more bluntly, no one is scared about trans people here. They’re scared about rapists. Some rapists say they’re trans. Get over it.

HandsOffMyRights · 11/10/2018 23:16

Thanks James. We will remember this stand when the lights come on again.

Goposie · 11/10/2018 23:27

Amazing article.

pombear · 11/10/2018 23:31

Poppy Star

We can't all be James K, Posie, Anne R, Jean H, Sarah D, Prof Stock, Julie B, and lots of others, but every little step, every voice, every conversation counts right now.

Charliethefeminist · 12/10/2018 07:17

James keeps plugging away with straightforward arguments, backed up with evidence and references, and coherent as fuck. Can you imagine if all journalists took the same approach. The difference in quality between his stuff and the Guardian/BBC material is remarkable.

TimeLady · 12/10/2018 07:22

What is particularly interesting is the tone of the comments below the article. Six months ago, it was very much along the line of the feminazis getting their comeuppance, but that has definitely changed.

James' message is getting through.

Charliethefeminist · 12/10/2018 07:57

James has got a massive cohort of people who would normally be rolling their eyes at feminists and TRA together, to actually take this seriously. That's such an achievement.

Dragon3 · 12/10/2018 08:21

Feminists were the first to point out safeguarding concerns. But safeguarding isn't simply a feminist issue. I think that James has been very good at listening and reporting that fact. Fantastic journalism.

Honestly, the Guardian and BBC should hang their heads in shame.
