Lovely, sunny day. I'm in a good mood. Just the sort of mood for celebrating the wonder of the female body. So here's a beautiful clitoris. Awesome, isn't she?

The clitoris is women's most sensitive erogenous zone and generally the primary anatomical source of human female sexual pleasure.. From wiki or somewhere

Isn't it just.

They will find that hard to copy in the operating theatre.

I'm still thinking about the other thread and the fact that the clitoris is out of the way of harm during labour and delivery, very clever design.

I'm also wondering if, the same way as in men, orgasm was required in women in order to conceive would the human race have died out by now?!

wichbitch it's quite possible. The human race has neared extinction 3 times, once 70,000 BC we may have dropped as low as 40 breeding pairs. The human race is pretty efficient at reproduction as things are. I guess female orgasms are a nice little bonus.

orgasm was required in women in order to conceive

I'm sure I saw it mentioned on a history programme that way waaay back it was believed that a woman's pleasure from & enjoyment of sex was essential to conceive.

I'll need to go trawling for that now as it'll bug me til I find it.

Yes! I heard that on the radio Plectrum

then the victorian era came along and the idea of female sexual pleasure being important went by the way side

Does anyone remember that biology programme that aired years ago, which showed the female orgasm? It was amazing - it showed the cervix dipping into the pool of semen to encourage it into the womb. The female body is so clever.

The cervix dips during orgasm in such a way that pulls in semen. So it increases the likelihood of conception.

How amazing isn't it that we have an organ in our bodies that exists just to make us feel good? The clitoris has no other purpose.
Thinking about that makes me feel almost religious.

The history programme was Lucy Worsley ‘Harlots, Housewives and Heroines: a 17th Century History for Girls’.

I found it incredibly sad that that perspective was lost.

Am now trying to find the Lucy Worsley on catch up.

I didn't know that noeffing.

The belief that female orgasm was needed to conceive wasn't entirely beneficial to women. It meant for example that if a women was raped and fell pregnant it was assumed she had enjoyed it.

That's interesting qumquat, hadn't thought of that.

I love this painting by Louise Bourgeois that she created at the end of her life called The Good Mother.

I think her previous work Femme Maison (woman house) is an earlier version of the same theme and I love it too.

Women’s bodies are houses for other humans! How amazing is that?!
