Their friend from Oxford University has raised the complaint and describing this as a transphobic act. ( Twitter.)

Gender critical people on twitter should join that thread and tell Primary well done.

Balance it out.

*Primark. This new phone has an awfully sneaky autocorrect.

if anyone lives in Coventry perhaps they could pop in and thank the shop for being concerned about women and girls.

I have just contacted them via the form on their website.

Supporting womens privacy and safety isnt transphobia is it?

Good question. I wish someone would ask the likes of Jeremy Corbyn, Stella Creasy - oh and Angela Rayner and Wes Streeting who were both in the Labour against transphobia group, yet never enormously clear about what 'transphobia' means.

The sooner society starts to talk abou,t and reflect on, the purpose of single-sex facilities the better.

Imagine if every natal female in the country was asked this:

  1. Do you want single-sex changing rooms - Yes/No.

  2. If you answered Yes, should anybody who wants to use the female changing rooms be allowed to use them? - Yes/No

  3. If you answered No , please indicate which of the following is important to you about single-sex changing rooms:
  • allowing access to only those who have F on their passports
  • allowing access to only those who have F on their birth certificates
  • allowing access to only those who feel like they are female (whether or not they have a penis)
  • limiting access to people who have female-sexed bodies.

Sorry - last option should have read 'allowing access to only those who have female-sexed bodies'

Wow. The email was sent 17 hours ago.
Don't most companies aim to reply within 48 hours?

It's important to remember that Primark were found guilty in December 2017 of gender reassignment discrimination against their employee.

Just tweeted this at them
I am sorry that must have been upsetting for your friend but the safety of women and girls must come first. Women live under constant threat of sexual assault and they need to feel safe when they are in a vulnerable state of undress.

This is a perfect example of TIMs getting women to do the work of bullying other women into compliance for them.

Being asked for ID is not the end of the world. If the person is being asked then clearly it's obvious that they're trans already, so it's not like they're being outed. Everyone else has to make compromises, it's part of living in a society - why can't they?

Weird... Tweets not supporting the 'Transphobia' angle have been removed

How can this be possible? Who can remove other people's tweets?

I completely understand that this may have been distressing and I hope that the request for id was done in a discreet and respectful way.
I would think though, that all other adult women would surely accept for themselves a moment of offence and upset if it meant helping to protect other women and girls from potential actual harm?

Well done to them.
Why don't male changing rooms make arrangements to have trans changing facilities.
I don't want men in the same changing rooms as me.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/04/2018 13:21

If checking that I really should be in a particular space is necessary to protect young girls then absolutely, go ahead, no problem. Because I can remember being a young girl, and I care about other women and girls.
