ATH appeal for travel bursary for trans women. Not trans men.

ATTENTION CISGENDER PEOPLE.
Can you imagine what it's like leaving your home in constant fear of assault, harassment and ridicule? This is what trans people experience every day of their lives. Help our trans siblings. Read this thread and share, please.

And links to an appeal by Action for Trans Health for donations to fund a travel bursary for transwomen and trans feminine people whatever that means (no mention of trans men of course), because apparently they're always being attacked and harassed on public transport. Obviously I can't even begin to imagine what that must feel like Hmm

I know, and a massive £200 a month he spent on taxis for his safety!

So, about the price of a monthly train ticket, or to run a car. Boo fucking hoo.

But back to the point, I'm sure no women anywhere could imagine having to shell out for a taxi to get home because we're told if we walk alone in the dark we're asking for trouble and it would be our own fault. Especially if we were wearing a skirt.

I don't really care if that's what he thinks would be helpful to other people who are genuinely afraid of leaving their house. But, I don't think it's the right response to that as an issue. I also wouldn't give a single penny to an organisation that actively promotes and supports violence (of the actual physical kind).

I see they've raised £1,200 or so of their £1500 target so there are clearly enough people who disagree with me!

Making public transport safer for everyone - women, trans people - everyone - would be a much more laudable goal. But as that would require actual work in changing attitudes, much easier to ask for money so you can go on a night out without ever leaving your bubble. Until you get to the pub/club I guess.

This happened to me at work. We were called to a gender inclusivity workshop where a 36yo transwoman (lived 34years as heterosexual male, married) wailed to a large group of natal women about how awful it was to be at a pub and not know if you were going to be attacked on the way home on your own. With not a single trace of irony.

I just dived into that twitter thread and although I read some great responses - I am actually left feeling a bit despondent that males can be so ignorant about the reality of women's lives. I was starting to take for granted that mass disclosures like the everyday sexism project and #metoo actually made a difference. Has he been living under a rock? Maybe he avoids women wherever possible and successfully filters out women's voices (by thinking about what he wants for dinner or just saying "blah blah blah boring" to himself) whenever he is unable to avoid us.

I just don't get how that level of irony can be missed! Did the whole #metoo thing completely pass them by? I guess so, looking at Travis Alabanza's twitter, he might be in the running for most self obsessed person alive, so I guess it probably did.

And then Butcher's GIF aimed at the 'trans exclusionary feminists' which is completely blind to the fact that the whole reason trans people might need this bursary because of MEN!

And now Butcher is retweeting some of responses from his critics, as if the whole thing is just some big old larf.

I am tempted to contact The Independent to complain about his misogynist views, but tbh they arent really a credible media outlet anymore are they so won't care anyway.

What is it with these GoFundMe type campaigns? It's just begging. It really seems like a lot of these SJWs have them and it's huge entitlement. Grrr

But you don't see women begging for cash for taxis because they are too speshul for public transport do you? Funnily enough we have bigger things to worry about.

Travis Alabanza strikes me as the sort of bloke who will get on a bus and start being really loud, obnoxious, annoying and 'loooooooook at meeeeeeeee!' and then when people start raising eyebrows because his presence is getting a little irritating will claim that everyone is 'harassing' him because he is 'different' and he 'just wants to get on with his life in peace'.

And we don't have to imagine it's a reality and has been from day one. We can't just shove on a pair of jogging bottoms and shave our heads and identify out of it.

It's almost as if they realise that for the most part no one actually gives a shit about what they are wearing so they have to go out of their way to make themselves such dick heads people give them hell on Twitter and on newspaper websites just so they can actually play the victim.

Yes, this. Raise funds for anything you want. Don't have the gall to say "cis" women can only imagine being fearful of assault, harassment and ridicule when leaving the house. Hell, women are subjected to that inside the house, too. It shows a complete lack of awareness of the daily lived reality of women.

Which women have been talking about for ages.

Which recently has received a lot of media attention thanks to a lot high-profile creepers being exposed and the #metoo campaign.

So that info is out there and readily available.

The responses are fucking brilliant. I don't understand how in his mind responses in a public sphere = hijacking, particularly when they might be firm responses but they're mostly polite (and consist of women sharing their experiences of being assaulted). He has interpreted them as hate. Hmm
