Anyone starting this?

I've got the weekend to prepare (mentally!!) and then officially start on Monday.

Anybody care to join?

I did one a couple of years ago and felt amazing afterwards! Good luck and enjoy it! I keep thinking about doing another but I don't have the time at the moment to prepare and organise everything. I will join you in the no sugar element though as I've given that up as of today. It was what made the biggest difference to me on the whole 30.

Me me me!
Convinced DH to give it a go on a week by week basis. Think bread and dairy will be massive challenges as that is basically what our two year old twins eat! I'm hoping that if this works for us we can move to a WOE with whole30 in the week and then relaxed at the weekends. Have done a big food shop and a bit of meal planning. Motivation is to get me out of a hideous bingy carb cycle which had seen me pile on e pounds, I am now the weight I was when I was abou 18 weeks pregnant with twins! I have had good sucess quitting added sugar before so hoping this resets things!

Shall we post Monday's meal plan? Trying to make sure I eat enough o avoid snacking, but I will need an evening one as I eat with kids at 5ish.

Day 1-
Two egg omelette with half avocado and tomatoes. Black coffee. Spinach and berry smoothie.

Lunch- roasted veg- peppers, tomatoes, onions, courgettes, aubergines with kale an smoked mackerel. Apple or satsumas.

Dinner-bolognase with shredded cabbage.

Evening snack- nuts, crudités, frozen berries.

Lots of herbal teas and water throughout the day.

How does that sound? Also going to print out the information about planning meals to keep me focused. Key issue will be food we can enjoy as a family but fits in with the plan.

Anyone else? Boglin any tips?

I'm dreading it if I'm honest. Bit dubious about the lack of anything sweet. I know you're allowed fruit but the book suggests it's only as part of a savoury meal and not to feed your sugar dragon.

And I'm not sure about vegetables at breakfast time. The thought makes me want to puke TBH

I did one mid November to mid December and lost a stone. Felt brilliant. I have managed not to put any weight back on over Christmas, and will do another one in Feb, once my run of family birthdays is over, just keeping low carb and low booze until then.

I lost weight too, 16lbs, but I'm a bit of a fatty anyway.

Bestbees, I would add another egg to your omelette and maybe some sweet potato to your roasted veg. I ate big meals as it was the only way to stop me snacking.

I kept a spreadsheet of all the meals I made when I did mine and there are links to recipes so if anyone wants it PM me your email address and I'll send it on Monday.

Bellyrub, I've discovered there are certain fruit/veg I can handle at breakfast (tomato, mushrooms, spinach, sweet potato) and some I really can't (cauliflower, swede). I think the trick is to make meals you want to eat, don't choke down things you can't stomach.

Glad I've found you. I'm planning on starting tomorrow but now I'm thinking there's no way I can do it. I've spent a fortune today on more veg than it can be possible to eat in a week. Also my past few days of trying to eat all the Christmas chocolate probably won't get me off to a good start!
It would be lovely to have some company along the way. (If I even get through tomorrow. ....)

I'm starting tomorrow too and it'll be lovely to have some company.

I've done it once before and it was great but I've really struggled with round 2. I want to have another go but try to cut out all fruit this time.

I've just cleared out all our cupboards of noncompliant foods so I'm feeling prepared. Just need to buy a million eggs...

Hello to new recruits! Glad to have some experienced whole 30 people here to help with advice.

Boglin, will do as you recommend. Feels funny eating massive meals but I think if I start like that I can cut down if not hungry, hopefully this will help slay the snack monster!

I am ok with some veg in the morning and am finding raw kale really easy to eat, nicer than cooked! Belly I guess it is about making it work for us so if u had an omelette some nuts and fruit for breakfast week one and started adding veg in later that might help?

Good luck to those staring today, I am sort of, had smoked salmon, raw kale and avocado for breakfast with black tea. Lunch will be Chechouka (sp?) peppers and onions with tomatoes and paprika topped with egg. Dinner is the non compliant part as it is left over roast dinner that needs eating! I think white potaoes are now allowed but there is flour in the gravy. Still a good trial run before tomorrow!

Good luck ladies!

Bestbees can I ask where you found compliant smoked salmon?

I searched everywhere but couldn't find any without sugar as a cure. So annoying as it's something we all eat here. (DDs, 4 and 2, do a modified version too)

I've started too!
Struggled with breakfast - prosciutto, melon and avacado with some cashews. I usually have bread/sugar combinations and found it really hard to eat something else. Unfortunately I don't like eggs so I think breakfast is always going to be hard.

Lunch was lovely until DH told me he put butter on top of the roast chicken!!

Well done to everyone else has started today. And good luck if you're starting tomorrow.

One of my favourite breakfasts is Thai coconut soup, which is essentially a Thai curry without rice or noodles. It's very soothing and keeps you full for ages.

It also helps to think of breakfast as Meal 1. Then you won't try and recreate 'breakfast' type foods.

Bestbees · 03/01/2016 16:47

Snazapoo, bigger it, it isn't compliant! I am not actually starting today, just easing myself in and had some left over in the fridge, I had no idea about the sugar. However it is very low 0.1g per 100g). I have lidl smoked mackerel which is compliant which might work as an alternative. Interesting that you are doing it with your kids too. Mine will be a bit as s result of me, but hard to stop giving them cereal and toast. Coconut Thai soup sounds lovely, do you have a recipe?

Superworm, try making ghee to replace butter. You basically simmer butter for about 15 mins and then sieve. It is compliant with whole 30 and absolutely terrifyingly yummy, something fudgy about it.

Actually looking forward to tomorrow!

Eating this way has completely cured my DH's IBS Waving I hope it works for you too.

My Thai soup is very simple and adaptable.

Fry some sliced onions until soft and getting brown, I use coconut oil. Then add a enough red curry paste to suit your taste (check they don't have palm sugar in, I use Mae Ploy) and cook out for a few minutes.
To this add a can or carton of coconut milk and then add whatever you fancy to this basic mix.
My standard is sliced chicken thighs, peppers and green beans.
Also works with thinly sliced beef or raw prawns and veg like cabbage, broccoli, bamboo shoots.

It takes minutes and can be changed to suit most people. I make a big batch and then have it for breakfast the next day.

In fact, if you always cook extra dinner then you always have a quick breakfast or lunch for the next day. The whole 30 requires a lot of cooking so try and help yourself where you can.

I'm starting this but not til next week although I have cut out bread, alcohol, milk and fizzy drinks from the 1st to ease me in. It looks like you need to be super organised to have all the correct food in and I have struggled to find some compliant products - it looks like I will be making my own stock from scratch for instance. I am hoping it will give my weight loss kick start and retrain my bad eating and drinking habits

Ill join in. I have been eating paleo (which whole 30 comes from I think) for the last year and have lost 2 stone. Feel so much better for it and reduced aches and pains and severely reduced any hormone symptoms. Cutting out dairy was what stopped that.

AlwaysBeYourself · 03/01/2016 20:45

Waving yes to it eliminating IBS or reducing it. And no wind!! Bonus. I have found that once I got used to it and I did take a month to ease myself in, it became simple.

Superworm if I feel like a cereal type breakfast I blitz macadamia, hazelnut, cashew and coconut slices so it is like granola, then add some chopped banana or berries and add a slug of coconut milk. Really hits the spot. I also have this as pudding sometimes.

Thanks Always for the breakfast suggestion. Sounds yummy. I'll definitely try it. Snazapoo your Thailand soup sounds delicious too and I'll also try that, but it might take a while to get used to it for breakfast!
Bestbees, thanks. I have thought about making clarified butter but it sounded a bit complicated. You've made it sound quite simple so I might give it a go.

I had mackerel with beetroot salad this evening and it was surprisingly delicious and filling. I'm also feeling rather saintly because I've made stock with the chicken carcass for the first time in my life!!

It's great to hear the positive effects of the whole 30 from everyone who has done it before.

Waving - hope you feel better soon.
