You are not wrong. I'm currently wearing a pair in a size 4 and they still make my feet loot ginormous. I was wearing them with super skinny jeans at the weekend and they looked even bigger.

I still like them though. I find ballet pumps uncomfortable to keep on my feet and I haven't found a pair of trainers that I like ( although am considering some addidas gazelle's) and these are comfy and on trend. It doesn't help that mine are from a boys youth range which means they may be a bit wider than ladies styles!

these if you want giant snakeskin feet

I picked up a Peter Pilotto for Target pair from the clearance rack (a 10€ investment).

The good:
They look fresh, update simple outfits and are über comfy and quick to put on

The bad:
They are sweaty (=require a washable coconut fiber insole), require maintenance to stay white and they will not make anyone's feet look dainty. I have narrow feet and they are a bit roomy (hence the insole). The latter you can control a bit with how you pair them, skinnies can look clownish, rolled-up boyfriends are more in proportion. And go for a snug fit.

I have sports shoe fobia - I didn't do the bright trainer thing, just don't like trainers and dislike Converse, but skate shoes seem much easier to wear and are an easy upgrade from loafers last summer.

You are right. I tried some on and I have size 8 feet. They made laugh and do a silly walk!

Oh Jesus, are these in style? It took me years to get DP to stop wearing these when we first met. Awful Sad

Oh yes, the Max Wall look.

I agree. The problem is the skinny jeans, everybody wears them but they massively limit your shoe options.

I wore trainers with boot cuts for years in the 90s and beyond, but that won't wash now. But I'm never in a million years going to get away with trainers and skinnies at my age/height/weight.

Well, clearly we need a MN S&B blog. No sponsored posts, no ads, no freebies, no affiliate or skim links, nothing for sale. Lots of independent, unique content that takes hours per post, all done for free. Grin Wink.

I am not doing the skater shoes myself, but I like them on others. I like to see something a bit different - fashion is fun. I'm quite classic / staid, so it's a dull world if we all dress like me.

I agree, but I quite like the look of them. I have tried on every one on the market a few, but they are horrendous on my not enormous size 6.5 feet.

That's true but I have small feet so it doesn't really matter to me. I love them.

So there!

Literally everyone in Brighton female over 40 wearing them. My son and his mates wear them so I see them as literally for skating

Vickiyumyum · 02/04/2014 10:40

surely they aren't for wearing with skinnies but more relaxed boyfriend type jeans?

Report
dexter73 · 02/04/2014 10:42

I like them too or else I wouldn't have tried them on, but they did make my feet look extra enormous. I stick to converse clown shoes.

I've not seen anyone wearing them in real life as yet, just on blogs. I'm neutral about skate shoes, they don't really fit with my style and I've not sought out any to try on. I quite liked the look of the leopard M&S ones that Kat 40 Bum posted a long time ago but obviously not enough to actually go and look at them in person!

I have been wearing (coloured) trainers for years so I find it amusing they are now all the rage, it means I can dip into a trend without needing to spend any money at least! Likewise Birkenstocks which are quite comfy but usually only worn at home or on holiday. Not sure I'll be blogging my schtokenblockens anytime soon though Grin

princessdave, can you link to your blog?

I'm not keen on the skate shoes but then I don't wear jeans. have tried new balance with a denim skirt but not keen on the denim skirt and leggings look, feels a bit too silly at 37 and not a look I'm keen to repeat.

You mentioned my blog in the freebies thread a few days ago Vickiyumyum! My face went bright red when I saw it, ha ha. It was a more than fair comment Smile Sadly Mr Boden hasn't seen fit to try and buy me or my blog with freebies, doesn't really need to seeing as I've been buying for years!

I loathe jeans too, I really need to find the perfect pair but just cannot be bothered. I'm sure they are out there somewhere. I need Belinda on the case Wink

Have MN changed it so that links happen automatically? Makes sense, but perhaps they had an IT hurdle to overcome to put that in place [sympathetic face as IT is harder to deal w than it looks, I find]

My son wears them with skinnies and looks fab, so I wear them with rolled up boyfriends. I have 3 pairs from gap, pony skin in black, leopard and blue leopard. I like the black with opaques and a skirt.

They are super comfy and I prefer them to the New Balances that are everywhere now.

AnnabelleDarling I really liked the look of the blue leopard GAP ones but they seemed to sell out in 5 minutes Sad

What size are you PrincessDave? I have a spare pair of 38s, I bought two because I liked them so much, but realise now that was probably a bit irrational!

They are a tight fit so you need to size up

What a shame, I'm a solid 39 and my feet are likely to start swelling in a month or so as I'm almost 28 weeks pregnant.

Put the on eBay? I'm sure they'll sell for what you paid for them!
