Whistles sizing comes up slightly small, right?

<eyes size 16 trousers bitterly>

I think that its cut for pear shapes so depends if that's your shape.

sansucre Tue 05-Mar-13 13:18:47

I disagree with this, I find it comes up big. I also disagree with the pear shape comment too as I'm really rather busty yet their dresses and most of the tops are always too big across the chest. However, in a few instances, I find the skirts to be a little snug across the hip yet too big on the waist.

I think much like COS, it's worth trying everything on in a multitude of sizes and ignore your actual dress size. Actually, I think ignoring ones usual dress size is the only way to shop successfully anymore.

sansucre Tue 05-Mar-13 13:20:54

Oh, as for their trousers, I dont think I know anyone who has successfully tried on, let alone purchased a pair of trousers from Whistles. I have no idea who they cut them for, but it's not for anyone I know!

MrsRadicchio Tue 05-Mar-13 13:29:53

Ooh, I like their trousers. They must be cut for the chunky of thigh grin

MrsCampbellBlack Tue 05-Mar-13 13:59:39

Their sizing has changed in the last 12 months - all their tops are now very wide in the shoulders.

But I still find the waisted dresses have comparitively small waists compared to other brands hence I do feel they cut for pears.

Seems average to me, but I am a pear so perhaps that why? Everyone goes on about Karen Millen being small for example, and I find their clothes ideal on me- but I def think they cut for pears too.

I thought it came up really, really big but I've only ever tried skirts, dresses and tops on and no trousers. I'm narrow of shoulder and most of the tops drown me, even though I'm norky. They are v big across the back and shoulders.

Well I'm a pear and I've bought the lena jacket in size 8. It fits but it's definitely tight.

MrsCampbellBlack Tue 05-Mar-13 19:10:00

Is that the new pale grey one - I tried that in the shop and it was a better fit on me than the older leni one. It was shorter and neater if that makes sense.

So I think that actual style does come up smaller.

Annianni Tue 05-Mar-13 19:23:21

Sod off with your size 8 being tight... i've just bought it in a size 16!
And i'm not a 16 anymore. grin

A 14 would have fit but I didn't want a snug fit, so mine's got a bit of room in it.

Mrsap Tue 05-Mar-13 19:25:40

Anni, your post made me laugh!

I've just returned loads of stuff to whistles as the sizing was all over the place. So it really depends on the exact item I think.

Deeply annoying but v commonplace it seems.

winefairy Tue 05-Mar-13 19:35:09

I bought the grey Lena too and thought it ran big, especially in the shoulders and waist. Just thought I'd throw that into the mix! <not helpful>

I'm a busty 10/12 and so I erred on the side of caution. It's very roomy so perhaps I have a rogue Leni channels Heidi Klum

EarlyInTheMorning Tue 05-Mar-13 19:37:50

It's all relative, innit???? I'm a short arse so if I go over a size 8 I risk looking like a little barrel...
I also have the size 8 jacket from Episode and it's so much bigger.

Annianni Tue 05-Mar-13 19:40:43

Sizing in most brands is completely bonkers imo.

Ignore the size labels and just see what fits.

foxysocks Tue 05-Mar-13 19:50:22

i actually emailed whistles about sizing, as i can be anything between a 6 and a 12 in there. they said sizing is standard, yeah RIGHT. i think if you can, trying everything on pre purchase will save the posting back hassle.

I am finding these days that just going on the waist measurement is the best bet. Officially I wouldn't fit into the chest or hip sizes of a size 8 or 10, but that is my waist size and that's what I order and it usually fits.

domesticslattern Tue 05-Mar-13 23:21:15

I tried on bazillions of things in Whistles at the weekend as had a Grazia voucher burning a hole in my pocket. I found the tops large- especially anything in a slouchy style v v large. I was in a 14 trouser when I normally wear a 14/16 but I also found them oddly short and yes cut for a chunky thigh.
And their mirrors are shockers! All angled so slant in at the top then a good inch plus out at the bottom. Make you look lovely and tall then you get home and realise the sorry truth. Evil trousers for getting my hopes up, going back to the shop in shame.
