When did a quiet thread become a good enough reason to delete?

CherieBabySpliffUp · 23/08/2021 22:15

I've just opened a thread which had the following deletion message..."As this thread hasn't been posted on much, we've agreed to take this down for the OP."
How is that a valid reason to delete the thread? Given it was on the active section if it had been left up for longer it could very well had more replies. Hmm

OP posts:

Sounds like the OP requested it was taken down rather than a MN thing…?

MissMarpleTheMurderer · 23/08/2021 22:19

It was a disingenuous message. Op got arse handed to her so wanted it deleted.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 23/08/2021 22:21

That's a strange message, loads of threads don't have many posts. Why would that be a reason to delete?

EarringsandLipstick · 23/08/2021 22:26

I think it means that OP asked for it to be taken down. As there weren't many replies, MN agreed.

Not that OP asked for it to come down because it was quiet. Maybe?

Hi OP

Thanks for getting in touch about this and sorry for any confusion caused here.

The poster had privacy concerns. We do try to push back where possible, but if a thread is relatively short and we feel it won't be missed, then we don't see the point in making anyone's life harder than it needs to be. For this reason, we took it down.

MrsRobbieHart · 23/08/2021 22:33

Surely you wouldn’t have left it up even if it had had loads of responses though @LilyMumsnet? Due to the Privacy concerns.

WorraLiberty · 23/08/2021 22:38

I think it was poorly worded.

I didn't post on it but I did think when I read the deletion message, that it sounded a bit dismissive of those who had taken the time to reply to the OP.

eybkQ8 · 25/08/2021 08:20

I think it's unfair on those that took the time to answer!

This - we will word the deletions better in future. Sorry about that.
