unable to start threads

On my laptop (Windows/Firefox) I can start threads but on my ipad (IOS latest version with the app) I can't - it just says I need a valid username to be able to start a thread.

That doesn't look right! @slothtrot we'll look into it, but in the meantime have you tried re-typing the same username into the username field? I'm trying to understand if the app is rejecting the username, or just thinks you haven't typed one in.

Yes, I've tried that and it didn't make any difference. I also tried another username that I've used in the past, same problem.

@mumsnet can I tag onto this as I can't start threads either. I however use the android app. I can post no problems but can't start one.

I can't start threads in the app on Android, I've never been able to. I'll choose a topic then it will load and sometimes come up with a "app has stopped working" message. Sometimes it does nothing.

I take it back. It appears to have worked today

@slothtrot thanks for your patience, I'm trying to reproduce your issue to fix it. When you input a different username, do you get this tick appearing in the username field?

When you input a different username, which error popup do you get?

Also, can you let me know which version of iOS you have installed on your iPad? Just to make sure you've been able to download the most recent version of Talk.

It's not when I enter a new username it's when I enter my alternative username.

It with iPadOS 14.2

@slothtrot ah ok, so it exclusively happens when you're trying to use that username? Other usernames don't have any problems?

I cannot see how to start a new thread on a new topic. Please help!

If you head to the appropriate topic for your thread , e.g. 'Chat', at the top there should be a link that says “Start a new thread within Chat”.

Click on this link and you should be good to go.
