I am currently living overseas and considering sending my daughter (aged 12) to boarding school at either St Catherines in Bramley or Queenswood School in Hatfield. Grateful to hear from anyone who has experience of either school. We are looking for a school with a good academic record but with good pastoral care where she would be happy.

My DDs went to Queenswood. The Principal has been there for a year so fairly new. If you are overseas, I assume you realise Queenswood is flexi boarding so check how many stay in school at weekends lower down the school. Are you planning to join in y9?

Queenswood is very sporty and drama is second to none so many girls are articulate and confident. Academics are strong but there is always a "tail" of a few not so academic girls but there is something for everyone. It isn't really a hot house which is what parents want. One of my DDs was arty and this was not a strength at that time. Many girls aim high regarding university.

It is a very busy school with lots going on and there are many competitions between the houses and clubs to join. A girl who really wants to have a rounded education can get one here. There is always something to do and the school has a real buzz. Do go and visit. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for your reply which is really helpful. I have visited the school and was very impressed. I have also visited St Catherine's which looks fantastic too.

Hello! May I know have you decided which school to apply for your DD?

Yes - I decided on Queenswood in the end and my daughter is very happy there.
