Having a full-blown boiler-related meltdown. No hot water, which I need for medical reasons - help!

Started out with hot tap water not getting hot due to a pressure gauge issue. Followed the manual/YouTube instructions to repressurise as best I could (turn boiler to "off" position, open valves until pressure gauge reads 1-1.5 bars, close valves, turn boiler back on). Seemed straightforward enough, but now not only is the water still not getting hot, there's no water whatsoever coming out of the tap.

What have I done, MN?! I'm completely fucked and going to need to get in an engineer, aren't I? Please say no...

I am not an expert but if there is no water at all I think it is an issue with your water supply not your boiler... I think if it were a boiler issue you'd still get water it just wouldn't be hot...

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 24/04/2021 21:08

Do you have cold water from the taps?

indiakulfi · 24/04/2021 21:08

Is it a Bosch ? Also, you say no water is coming out of the tap, do you mean the hot tap only or both? What about the other taps in the house ?

SwampyArmpits · 24/04/2021 21:14

@Notsoaccidentproneanymore @indiakulfi Cold water still running, yes

@indiakulfi It's an Ideal Logic

Is cold water coming out of the hot tap or just the cold tap? Do you rent or own the property?

SwampyArmpits · 24/04/2021 21:22

@Hellocatshome Cold tap only (was cold water coming out of both before I repressurised), and I rent.

Not done this before (hope they don't mind) but @PigletJohn might be able to advise.

SwampyArmpits · 24/04/2021 21:24

Thank you, @AdventureIsWaiting!

If you rent and need hot water for medical purposes then call your landlord or the management agency. Can you cope with using the kettle until it is fixed?

Teensandfuture · 24/04/2021 21:30

Ideal boiler should desplay error message, Google it up

SwampyArmpits · 24/04/2021 21:32

@Teensandfuture I did - said it needed repressurising. No error messages after I repressurised and turned the boiler back on.

According to google:

RHS (return)handle needs to be pointing up/down (same orientation as LHS (flow) handle.

rwalker · 24/04/2021 21:34

I think you've shut a wrong valve when you repressurised the boiler should still fire up as pressure now fine.

low pressure flashes F1 fault code that should of gone when pressure ok.

turn hot tap on and check the ones you turned to top boiler up

Teensandfuture · 24/04/2021 21:34

Switch it off fully, then repressurise to full, at least 3 bars, then put the taps back in position they should be

Teensandfuture · 24/04/2021 21:37

Valves not taps. As pp said, think you didn't turn valves back in position they should be in

SwampyArmpits · 24/04/2021 21:38

This is how the valves looked before and after I open them to repressurise - does anything look amiss? @rwalker ?

Middle blue valve in normal position is same as yellow one, right side blue valve is facing east, in normal position.

Turn both opposite way, wait until pressure rose enough, then put the valves back into original position

SwampyArmpits · 24/04/2021 21:48

@Teensandfuture Yes, that's what I did. Just tried again, in case I hadn't turned them back to the correct position. Left blue valve won't even open now, because the world clearly hates me today 😑

If there is no water coming out if the hot tap (not even cold water) then you have turned off the incoming water supply.

Compare your manual to the boiler.

I see four pipes going into it.

From left to right,
First is yellow, the gas.
Then two looped together, presumably to repressurise
Then one on its own, either hot water out, or cold water in.

According to your manual, what are they?

Look at the one that the manual says is incoming water supply. How many positions does the handle have?

Are there any other valves, apart from the one yellow and two blue?

Note that T-handles do not necessarily turn left or right, they just turn 90 degrees and stop.

PigletJohn · 24/04/2021 22:36

Is there another handle on pipe 3? I can't see it clearly. Take a pic more from the right hand side.

Horridcreature · 24/04/2021 22:49

If the simple things don’t work and you rent this really is a landlord issue. They may have insurance on the boiler and particular contractors. You should explain that it is urgent.

DustyHoneydew · 24/04/2021 23:07

The blue valve on the right looks shut. Try opening it so it aligns with the pipe, same as the other one.

@PigletJohn Thanks - do the images I've attached here make anything clearer? These are the only angles I can really squeeze my camera into...

@DustyHoneydew Both blue valves are shut, yes. This is how they look when they are.
